You need an eligible channel, a video source or playlist, and an encoder connected to YouTube with your stream URL and private stream key. Plan to monitor the feed, recover from interruptions and manage replays separately: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not promise an uninterrupted forever-stream or a complete archive for longer broadcasts.
What you need before starting
- An eligible YouTube channel: it must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours. You must be at least 16 years old to stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Prerecorded video: prepare the recording or playlist you intend to show. Confirm that you have the necessary rights to every video and audio track.
- An encoder: YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. A software encoder is a valid starting point; hardware is optional. YouTube’s encoder guidance also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded streams, but that listing does not establish its availability or terms in India.
- A reliable upload connection: the encoder must send a continuous feed. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate.

Complete channel verification and enable live streaming in YouTube. If you have never streamed before, allow up to 24 hours for activation. Check YouTube Studio for any restrictions before planning a launch.

Choose a software or hardware encoder
Install and configure a software encoder, or use a standalone hardware encoder if your production setup calls for one. YouTube does not require expensive encoding hardware to begin. For YouTube’s encoder options and setup, see Set up your encoder for live streaming.

Create or schedule the live stream
In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and create or schedule an encoder stream in Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL (server URL) and stream key shown there into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or include it in a public screenshot.

Load the video and configure the encoder
Select the recording or playlist as the encoder’s source. Set resolution, frame rate and bitrate to match both your material and your sustained upload capacity. There is no single bitrate that suits every resolution, frame rate and connection; use YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate recommendations rather than guessing. YouTube recommends testing the setup and leaving about 20% upload bandwidth above the stream’s bitrate.

Start the encoder and verify the preview
Start sending the feed from the encoder, then check Live Control Room for the incoming preview and stream health before making the event live. Confirm picture, audio, playback order and that the correct stream is selected. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and testing before launch; see its live-streaming tips.

Monitor the broadcast
Check that the live feed remains visible and that audio and video continue as intended. Watch for stream-health warnings, network loss and YouTube policy or copyright notices. Have a person or a recovery process ready to respond if the encoder or connection stops sending.

Plan continuity and replays around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not promise that a single stream will remain live indefinitely, nor does it guarantee a complete replay for a longer broadcast. If replay matters, design session handoffs and your own recording or archive process around the under-12-hour guidance rather than assuming a 24-hour event will be fully preserved. Check YouTube’s current live-stream archiving information before settling your workflow.

A 24/7 channel is therefore an operational schedule: someone or something must keep the source running, detect failures, restart or hand off sessions, and confirm the new feed is live. Test the handoff before relying on it for a public channel.
Copyright, content rules and monetization
Clear rights before scheduling videos
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can lead to interruption or termination, and having a licence does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: YouTube says a rights holder may need to allowlist the channel. Resolve rights and allowlisting with the relevant rights holder before broadcasting. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance, as well as its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. You remain responsible for applicable rights and laws.

A 24/7 schedule does not qualify a channel for monetization by itself
YouTube reviews channels for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP); continuous streaming does not guarantee acceptance, ads or earnings. YouTube’s India-facing monetization guidance lists the ad-revenue eligibility alternatives as 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the preceding 365 days or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. Other requirements apply, and individual features can have separate eligibility conditions. Check the current YouTube Partner Program eligibility guidance for India before making plans around revenue.

Compare any service against your playlist, recovery and archive needs, and verify its current regional availability directly.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: confirm the channel is verified, live streaming is enabled, and there is no restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: recheck the stream URL and key in the encoder, make sure the intended event is selected, and confirm the encoder is actively sending. If needed, create or select the correct stream in Live Control Room and enter its matching credentials.
- The feed buffers or drops: check sustained upload capacity and network stability, reduce the stream bitrate or output settings if the connection cannot sustain them, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom. Monitor stream health during a test before relaunching.
- The broadcast stops or the replay is incomplete: inspect encoder and connection status, restart or hand off the session, then verify the new feed in Live Control Room. Do not rely on a stream longer than 12 hours being automatically archived in full.
- YouTube interrupts the stream for a content match: stop and investigate the matched material. Confirm your rights and, where applicable, ask the rights holder to allowlist the channel; a licence alone may not prevent an automated interruption.
- The video runs but the channel is not monetized: continuous live hours do not bypass YPP eligibility or channel review. Check the current India-specific requirements and policy status in YouTube Studio.
