You can use FFmpeg to loop an authorized Indian music playlist and send it to YouTube, but FFmpeg alone does not make a stream reliably 24/7. You also need a host and internet connection that stay available, a valid stream key, compatible media and encoding settings, and a plan for recovering from interruptions. Before configuring anything, confirm that your music is licensed for continuous live streaming in the territories where you plan to broadcast.
What you need before starting
- Music cleared for live use: Permission must cover the actual tracks and intended use, including continuous live broadcasting. Check territory, duration, monetization, archived playback and any platform allowlisting requirement. Owning a downloaded track, crediting its creator or having a general royalty-free license does not by itself establish live-stream rights.
- A continuous host and network connection: FFmpeg runs on a computer or server. If you run it locally, that machine and its internet connection must remain available. The FFmpeg documentation describes streaming workflows, but does not prescribe a particular minimum computer specification or bandwidth.
- Media and a video source: Prepare audio files in formats FFmpeg can read. YouTube is a video platform, so pair the audio with a still image, visualizer or other permitted video source if your chosen output requires video.
- YouTube live access: YouTube’s getting-started guidance says a channel needs verification and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days to enable live streaming. Check the current status and setup prompts in your own YouTube Studio account because platform conditions can change. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- An ingest URL and private stream key: Obtain these from YouTube’s live control room when setting up the broadcast. Treat the key like a password; do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or commit it to a shared script or repository.
Clear music rights before you stream
YouTube’s livestream terms say that the content provider must have the necessary rights for live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The rights you need depend on your actual tracks, territories and use. Read the YouTube Livestream terms and conditions and obtain permissions that expressly cover the planned livestream.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace or interrupt a stream, and it may terminate the stream if the content continues. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel so YouTube’s systems recognize the permission. See YouTube’s guidance on live-streaming copyrighted content.
Creator Music is not a shortcut for this use: YouTube says its licensing does not support live content. YouTube points creators toward original music, the Audio Library, or third-party music with license terms checked for the intended use. Do not assume that a track labeled “free” is cleared for an uninterrupted, continuous livestream. The relevant Audio Library information is at YouTube Audio Library. This is not a determination of Indian or other local copyright requirements; check applicable law and the permissions for each recording and composition.

Prepare a playlist and choose how to loop it
FFmpeg is a media engine, not a playlist-management or uptime service. First decide whether you are repeating one input or managing a sequence of tracks. FFmpeg’s -stream_loop option repeats an input; it does not itself guarantee that the output connection, host or YouTube session will stay alive. Consult the FFmpeg documentation for option behavior and syntax.
One file repeated
If the program is a single long recording, input looping may suit it. Verify that the file’s audio and any associated video repeat cleanly at the boundary. A gap, abrupt visual reset or incompatible stream can be noticeable to viewers.

A maintained playlist
For multiple tracks, plan how they will be sequenced and updated. A playlist or sequence must be handled in a way compatible with the media formats and the FFmpeg workflow you choose. Check transitions, ordering and end-of-list behavior before going live; a playlist ending is not the same as a connection failure and may not trigger an automatic restart.
Copy streams or encode them
Stream copying avoids re-encoding when the source streams and the destination’s ingest requirements are compatible. If they are not, encode or transcode the output into compatible audio and video streams. There is no universally correct command: input formats, stream mapping, video source, codecs, container and destination settings all matter. Confirm YouTube’s current ingest guidance and test privately before relying on a configuration.

Configure FFmpeg and connect to YouTube
- Confirm the media streams. Inspect the input files and determine which audio and video streams should be used. If you are supplying a still image or visualizer, ensure it is mapped with the audio and that the output remains valid when a track changes or loops.
- Choose output encoding and muxing. Match the output codecs and container to YouTube’s current live encoder recommendations and the capabilities of your inputs. Choose resolution and frame rate based on the video you actually provide; do not assume that upscaling audio artwork improves the stream.
- Set the stream destination. Use the RTMP or other ingest URL provided by YouTube, together with the private stream key. FFmpeg documents RTMP output and examples in its protocol documentation. Avoid placing a real key in a publicly visible command, log or configuration file.
- Test before scheduling a long run. Start an unlisted or otherwise suitable test broadcast, check audio/video synchronization, playlist transitions and YouTube’s received stream status, then verify the resulting archive if you intend to retain one.
- Keep the process observable. Save logs somewhere you can inspect, monitor whether the process is running and whether YouTube is receiving data, and document how to restart the job safely. A running FFmpeg process does not prove viewers can see the stream.
For bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval and supported codecs, use YouTube’s current live encoder settings for the selected ingest protocol and quality. These values depend on the output profile and can change; do not copy a setting from an unrelated preset. Likewise, validate audio/video mapping and the container against your actual inputs rather than assuming a generic command will work.
Keep the stream running and recover from interruptions
Looping and reconnecting solve different problems. -stream_loop repeats input media. Protocol reconnect options address certain network protocols, while FFmpeg’s documented FIFO muxer example demonstrates recovery behavior for output failures. These mechanisms do not make the host or network infallible, and an output reconnection does not guarantee YouTube will preserve or recreate the same live session. See the protocol manual and full FFmpeg options documentation.

For a self-managed deployment, use a process supervisor or scheduled restart strategy appropriate to your host, retain logs, and monitor both process health and the platform-side stream state. Test what happens when the network drops, the host reboots, a playlist ends or YouTube stops receiving the feed. Have a restart procedure that obtains or reuses the correct active session details rather than assuming a retry alone will restore the broadcast.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a stream | Ingest URL, stream key, live access or output protocol | Confirm the channel can currently go live, copy the active ingest details from YouTube Studio, keep the key private, and inspect FFmpeg’s connection error in the logs. |
| Stream starts but stops at the end of a track or file | Input-loop or playlist end behavior | Check whether the input is actually being looped and whether the playlist has a defined continuation. Input repetition does not recover a broken output connection. |
| FFmpeg reports output/network errors | Network stability, protocol support or ingest session state | Review logs and test the protocol’s applicable reconnect behavior. If YouTube has ended the session, reconnect logic may not be enough; follow the platform’s current restart flow. |
| Audio plays but video is missing or invalid | Video input, stream mapping or output compatibility | Check that a permitted visual source is present, mapped and encoded in a format YouTube accepts for the chosen profile. |
| Stream is interrupted or replaced by YouTube | Third-party content detection or rights status | Check YouTube’s notice and resolve the rights issue with the relevant owner. A license may not prevent interruption unless the channel is allowlisted where required. |
| Live streaming is unavailable on the channel | Verification or a recent live-stream restriction | Check the channel’s YouTube Studio status and the current live-stream eligibility requirements. |
