You can run a 24/7 bhajan stream on YouTube with limited upload speed only if your connection can sustain the stream’s total bitrate. Measure upload speed where the encoder will run, leave about 20% headroom, choose conservative video settings, then test and monitor the actual stream. A continuous broadcast also needs the encoder, power and internet to stay active—and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube.
How much upload speed do you need for a 24/7 YouTube stream?
Use your stable upload speed, not your download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of available upload bandwidth unused. Count the full outgoing stream budget, including video, audio and any backup stream, as well as other upload traffic on the connection. YouTube’s current streaming tips page, accessed October 3, 2026, gives this headroom guidance: YouTube streaming tips.

As a starting calculation, multiply realistic stable upload capacity by 0.8. For example, if repeated tests show 1 Mbps of stable upload, 0.8 Mbps is the maximum starting total stream budget before accounting for other traffic. This is arithmetic applying YouTube’s headroom recommendation, not a YouTube-published minimum. If your connection fluctuates, start lower and test under the conditions you expect during the broadcast.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMeasure the connection you will actually use
- Run an upload speed test at the location and time the stream will run.
- Repeat the test while other people and devices are using the shared connection.
- For a 24/7 setup, consider different times of day; congestion or competing uploads may affect the bitrate the encoder can sustain.
- If Wi-Fi instability is the problem, a wired Ethernet connection may help if your router and encoder support it. It cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by your internet provider.
What bitrate and resolution should you use with slow internet?
Choose a video bitrate that fits below the available stream budget after headroom, and include audio bitrate in that budget. YouTube’s current H.264 live-encoder guidance lists these settings for the resolutions most relevant to a constrained connection. The figures are encoder recommendations, not promises about the internet plan required or the result YouTube will deliver to every viewer. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

| Output | H.264 bitrate guidance |
|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps minimum; 4 Mbps recommended |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps recommended |
For very limited upload, 480p30—or a lower custom setting—may be the only plausible starting point. YouTube does not promise a specific quality below its listed minimum. A modest bitrate can make the incoming stream unstable or visibly degraded if it is too low for the content, so check the real result rather than relying on the resolution label alone.
Use stable encoder settings
- Use H.264 video with constant bitrate (CBR).
- Set the keyframe interval to two seconds; do not exceed four seconds.
- Set audio to a bitrate and format your encoder supports, and include its bitrate in the total upload budget.
- For a devotional, audio-led stream, a low-motion original visual is a practical way to reduce visible compression artifacts at modest bitrates. It is not a YouTube-specific bhajan requirement.
YouTube transcodes incoming live video into multiple playback formats for viewers. You do not need to send a separate encoder output for every audience device; focus on a stable ingest stream. YouTube’s current encoder guidance is at Live encoder settings.

How do you set up and test the YouTube stream?
Prepare the broadcast in advance rather than discovering a setup problem during a continuous event. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to go live. See YouTube live-streaming tips.

- Create or schedule the event: In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to reach the Live Control Room, then create or schedule the stream.
- Copy the ingest details: In the Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching server/URL and key fields in your encoder. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Set the encoder: Choose a resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR and keyframe interval that fit your upload budget. Include audio and any other upstream stream traffic in your calculation.
- Test privately first: Use a test stream or an unlisted event and check the preview. Play representative bhajan audio and visuals at the settings planned for the continuous broadcast.
- Check health before going public: Review YouTube’s stream-health status and messages, and confirm that audio is clear and video is stable. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream quality; see its streaming tips.
Can you stream bhajans on YouTube all day?
Yes, provided the setup can stay online and you have the necessary rights to every recording and visual. A 24/7 stream depends on the encoder, its power supply and the internet connection remaining active. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing and monitoring; it does not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Plan how you will notice a stalled stream and restart the encoder or event.

Plan separately for continuity and the archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. A 24-hour event therefore should not be treated as a dependable replay. If you need an archive, keep an independent local recording and consider shorter sessions with a planned schedule and restart. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
Check rights for the specific recording and visuals
A composition being devotional, traditional, old or available online does not by itself clear a particular recording, arrangement, performance, image or video for your use. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the creator to hold the rights needed for worldwide use of live content, including applicable music rights. Check permissions for the specific material and intended territories before broadcasting: YouTube Terms of Service.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material that remains in the stream, a placeholder may replace the broadcast and the live stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. Even with a licence, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption. See Copyright issues with live streams.
Copyright clearance does not guarantee monetization
Copyright compliance and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and considers reused and inauthentic content; examples that may be ineligible include song collections and highly repetitive material with little original value. Original performances, meaningful context and distinct programming may help show your channel’s contribution, but do not guarantee approval. The policy’s July 15, 2025 update clarified “inauthentic content” for repetitive or mass-produced content. Read YouTube channel monetization policies.

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting a low-bandwidth bhajan stream
- YouTube reports poor stream health or the stream buffers: Lower the video bitrate or resolution, check for competing uploads, and retest. Recalculate with a realistic upload result and preserve the recommended 20% headroom.
- The bitrate fluctuates despite a fast speed test: Repeat upload tests during the hours you will stream and while the network is in normal use. If Wi-Fi drops or varies, try Ethernet; it can address local wireless instability but not an ISP upload limit.
- Video looks blocky at low bitrate: Reduce resolution or visual motion and test again. A low-motion visual may compress better than detailed, fast-changing footage, but the actual result depends on the content and settings.
- Audio is unclear or disappears: Check the encoder’s audio input, format and bitrate, then test the actual recording in the YouTube preview before making the event public.
- The stream stops after a copyright match: Review the identified material and stop using content for which you lack the necessary rights. If you have a licence, ask the rights owner whether your channel needs to be added to its Content ID allowlist.
- The event ended but no replay appeared: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Keep an independent recording if you need an archive, or plan sessions under 12 hours.
- Someone else may have your stream key: Reset the key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then replace the key in your encoder or service.
