Check a GTA VI offer against Rockstar’s current product details, verify the seller—not just the marketplace—and confirm what you will actually receive before paying. As of October 3, 2026, Rockstar lists the release date as November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its physical game package is code-in-box, with no disc. Those details give buyers useful checks, but they do not by themselves prove that a particular seller or collectible is genuine.
Start with Rockstar’s current GTA VI details
Open Rockstar’s official GTA VI page or the relevant console store by navigating there yourself, rather than following an unfamiliar seller link or advertisement. Rockstar Support names PlayStation Store, Xbox Store and Rockstar Store as preorder storefronts, and says select retailers and third-party storefronts may also offer the game where it is available in the buyer’s country. A listing on a marketplace is not automatically an authorized listing: check the individual seller and offer.

Compare the listing’s platform, edition, format, claimed bonuses, release or delivery timing, and seller name with Rockstar’s current information. The official page currently gives November 19, 2026, as the release date and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as the platforms. Rockstar’s current pages should take precedence over older announcement wording if availability or details have changed.
Know what a GTA VI preorder includes
Physical game: a code, not a disc
Rockstar describes the physical version as a code-in-box package: it includes a download code and no disc. A listing that explicitly promises a disc as part of Rockstar’s physical GTA VI preorder conflicts with that description. Check whether the seller is offering a different product, such as a separate collectible, and ask for clarification before buying.

Editions and upgrades
Rockstar Support’s editions page, last updated August 18, 2026, describes Standard and Ultimate digital editions and says there is no physical Ultimate Edition. A Standard Edition physical buyer can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the relevant PlayStation or Microsoft store after redeeming the code. Be wary of a listing that describes a boxed physical Ultimate Edition as an official Rockstar edition.
Collectibles and “official” claims
Rockstar’s official GTA VI page promotes The Vice City Collection as a limited-edition collectible set. That is a reference point for checking an item’s identity, not proof that a reseller’s copy is authentic or still available. Compare the seller’s description and photos with Rockstar’s own store and announcements, and verify current availability directly with Rockstar.

Check the seller, item and buyer protections
- Identify who fulfills the order. On a marketplace, the site hosting a listing may not be the seller. Check the named seller, recent feedback across more than one source, contact details, shipping terms, return and refund rules, and what buyer protection applies to that seller and product. The FTC notes that marketplace practices and protections vary.
- Ask for evidence of the actual item. Determine whether photos show the item for sale or are only promotional or stock images. Match the description to Rockstar’s product details, especially the code-in-box format, edition and platform. If the seller cannot clarify what is included, do not assume the listing matches the official product.
- Treat a bargain as a reason to investigate, not proof. The FTC says, “If a seller lists an expensive item for a very low price, it might be fake.” Unusually cheap merchandise, urgent countdowns or pressure to pay immediately merit extra checks, but price alone does not establish that an item is counterfeit.
- Keep payment on a protected route. Check that registration and payment pages use HTTPS, but remember that a secure connection does not prove the business is genuine. Prefer a payment method with dispute rights, such as a credit card, and avoid paying outside the marketplace if doing so removes its protections. Keep screenshots of the listing, seller messages, receipt and order confirmation.
- Confirm region compatibility before buying a code. Rockstar says redemption restrictions depend on the platform and the region associated with the account. It recommends buying from a retailer in the same country as the platform account to avoid activation problems. Check the rules for your console and country before ordering.
Compare two listings before choosing
Use the same checks for each offer; a lower price is not a good deal if the seller, format or recourse is unclear.

What to do if an order looks fraudulent
Save the listing, screenshots, messages, receipt and order details. Contact the seller and marketplace about the transaction. If you paid by card, contact the card issuer to ask about a dispute. The FTC’s marketplace guidance also directs consumers who suspect dishonest business conduct to ReportFraud.ftc.gov and their state attorney general.
