How to Spot Fake ASOS Messages and Phishing Links

If a message claiming to be from ASOS feels doubtful, don’t click its link, open its attachment, reply, or share information. Go to ASOS through its official app or by typing its website address yourself, then open Help or Customer Care. ASOS says it contacts customers through ASOS-branded email addresses or verified social media accounts, but a familiar name, logo, or design alone is not proof.

Check the sender and channel independently

ASOS warns that impersonators use social media, fake Gmail accounts, WhatsApp, and fake websites. Its guidance says it will contact customers through ASOS-branded email addresses or verified social accounts. For social media, check for the platform’s verified badge and confirm the account independently rather than relying on a display name, logo, or profile picture. See ASOS’s guidance on how to know you’re talking to ASOS.

A sender name that looks familiar does not establish who sent a message. If an email seems inauthentic or you have doubts about it, ASOS advises not clicking links or opening attachments. The same cautious approach is useful for unexpected texts, push notifications, and direct messages.

Look for warning signs in the request

  • It asks for secrets. ASOS says it will never ask for card details or a password in social DMs. Treat requests for passwords, payment details, or other personal information with suspicion.
  • It uses an unknown link or attachment. Don’t open it just to see where it goes. ASOS advises caution with unknown links and says not to click links or open attachments in an email whose authenticity is in doubt.
  • It pushes an unusually attractive offer or urgent action. ASOS warns about offers that seem too good to be true. Pressure to act immediately is a reason to pause and verify through an independent route.
  • The message’s appearance is doing all the convincing. Brand artwork and polished wording can be copied. A logo, plausible sender name, padlock, or HTTPS address by itself does not prove that a message is genuine or that its link is safe.

ASOS’s cyber-security guidance recommends hovering over a link to double-check its URL where possible. On a phone, pressing and holding may show a link preview, but do so cautiously and don’t open a link you already doubt. The safer choice is to leave the message alone and visit ASOS independently.

Use this safe check for any ASOS message

  1. Stop before interacting. Don’t tap the link, open an attachment, reply, or enter information from an unexpected message.
  2. Open ASOS independently. Use the official app you already have or type ASOS’s website address yourself; don’t use the message’s link to get there.
  3. Go to Help or Customer Care. Ask whether the message or request is legitimate using the contact route on ASOS’s own site or app.
  4. Report suspected impersonation through official routes. ASOS directs customers to Customer Care, and its cyber-security page points to Action Fraud for suspicious activity.

If you received the unauthorized ASOS push notification

ASOS’s live Unauthorised ASOS Notification notice says some customers received an unauthorized push notification with an external link. The notice tells customers to disregard it and not click or engage with the link. At the time reflected on that page, ASOS said unauthorized activity involved third-party platforms used to communicate with customers, that it had restricted access and was investigating, and that basic personal information such as names and contact details may have been accessed. Based on what it knew then, ASOS said it did not believe payment-card information or account passwords were impacted. This is a time-specific assessment, not a guarantee about later developments; consult the notice for its current status.

If you already clicked or shared information

If you entered a password

Navigate independently to the genuine service and change the password. If you reused it elsewhere, change it on those accounts too. ASOS recommends using unique passwords, especially for email and ASOS accounts.

If you shared card or bank information

Contact your bank or card issuer through its official app or the phone number on the card, and review recent transactions. ASOS advises customers never to send full card numbers or screenshots of bank accounts through email or live chat.
