Start with the seller and sales channel
The NBA recommends buying from NBA-authorized retail locations. That is a stronger starting point than relying on a listing’s “authentic” claim. The NBA Store identifies itself as the official NBA online store and lists Miami Heat jerseys and Miami Vice merchandise. Its inventory changes, so check whether the exact Vice City design and season you want are currently listed rather than assuming a particular model is in stock.

For a marketplace listing, check the seller’s contact information, recent feedback from more than one source, return and refund terms, and available payment protections. Reviews can help, but star ratings alone do not establish that a specific item is genuine. Ask for photos of the actual item
Look for clear, current photos of the jersey or merchandise the seller will ship—not just catalog images. Ask for the full front and back, close-ups of labels and tags, and a clear view of any claimed NBA hologram. Photos can help you spot missing information or inconsistencies, but they do not prove authenticity. If the listing uses only stock images, the condition and identity of the actual item remain unverified.
Check NBA and licensee indicators
NBA guidance advises buyers to look for an official NBA hologram sticker or holographic hangtag and a sewn-in or screen-printed label naming the NBA licensee. Its examples include adidas, Stance, and Mitchell & Ness. The league also flags ripped tags and unusual markings as reasons for caution. This guidance was published on February 16, 2017, in the context of NBA All-Star 2017; it is not a model-by-model authentication guide for every modern or vintage Vice City release.

Use those indicators as part of a broader check, not as a pass/fail test. Releases can differ by season and manufacturer, and the available guidance does not establish that every authentic item must have an identical tag or hologram. For detailed comparisons of fonts, stitching, labels, or product codes, first identify the exact edition and compare it with a trustworthy example of that same edition. Use price as a warning sign, not a verdict
Compare the total price with the same edition from an official or authorized seller when it is listed. The FTC warns that an expensive brand-name product offered at a bargain price could be counterfeit or stolen, but it gives no numerical cutoff for deciding when a price is “too low.” A low price deserves more scrutiny; it does not establish that the item is fake. Compare listings on more than appearance
If you are choosing between two listings, assess them on the same practical points instead of picking the cheaper one or relying on a single visual detail.

- If important details are missing, ask the seller for them before buying. If the seller will not provide actual-item photos or clear answers about returns, treat that uncertainty as a reason to walk away.
What these checks can—and cannot—tell you
These checks can help you screen a listing for warning signs and choose a seller with better safeguards. They cannot conclusively authenticate every Miami Heat Vice City jersey from general photos or the presence of one label or hologram.
