If an email claims to be from Free Mobile, don’t click its links or reply until you have checked it independently. Look for several warning signs together, then check the message in your Free Mobile Subscriber Area. Report suspicious email to Signal Spam; if you shared a password or bank details, take the steps below immediately.
How to recognize a Free Mobile phishing email
Phishing is an attempt to obtain personal or banking information by impersonating a trusted organization. A convincing logo, familiar display name, or polished French does not authenticate a message: Free has warned about an impersonation email that copied its visual identity and contained no spelling mistakes.

Look at the whole message rather than relying on one clue. Free identifies these warning signs:
- A sender address or other sender details that look inconsistent or questionable.
- A link that redirects to an unexpected or suspicious address.
- An unexpected attachment.
- Pressure to act urgently, such as a threat that an account or payment will be affected.
- A request for your subscriber password, a one-time security code, or other credentials.
- A request for bank details, or an instruction to call a premium-rate number.
Free says it never displays bank details in clear text in its emails or SMS. It has specifically warned about a fake message showing an IBAN and demanding urgent verification under a supposed European regulation; that claim was false. Do not treat personal details in a message as proof that it is genuine either.

How to verify a message without using its links
Check the sender, but don’t rely on one address alone
For Free Mobile, Free lists [email protected] as its email address. That is a useful check, not a universal test for every Free message: Free says assistance emails may come from other addresses. A matching sender address by itself also does not establish that a message is safe.
Inspect links without opening them
On a computer, hover over a link to see its destination without clicking. If the address is suspicious or does not match the service you intended to visit, close the message or page without entering information. On a phone, if a link seems doubtful, avoid it and open Free’s official service independently instead.

Free says its Mobile SMS links begin with m.free.fr and that its SMS messages are never sent from a number beginning with 06 or 07. These are clues for messages that claim to be from Free, not a reason to follow a link you are unsure about.

Check Free’s own record of recent communications
Open the Free Mobile Subscriber Area independently—by typing Free’s official address or using its app, rather than following the email link—and go to Nos communications > Communications de Free. Free says the most recent emails and SMS it sent to mobile subscribers are available there. If the message is absent or you still have doubts, do not respond to it.

How to report and remove a suspicious email
- Don’t interact with the message. Do not click links, reply, open unexpected attachments, or enter credentials. Free’s instruction is: “Ne cliquez sur rien, ne répondez pas à cet email, signalez-le à Signal SPAM puis supprimez-le.”
- Verify independently if necessary. Use Free’s official site, app, or Mobile Subscriber Area reached without the email’s links.
- Report the email to Signal Spam. Signal Spam describes a process in which you create an account, install a compatible mail module, and report spam from your mailbox. It says reports are shared with relevant actors who can take appropriate action; reporting does not guarantee immediate removal or prevent every fraud.
- Keep evidence if you may need further help. If you already interacted with the message or suffered harm, retain a copy of the email and other relevant evidence before deleting it. Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr specifically advises keeping the phishing message as evidence.
- Delete the email. If you retained evidence, keep it somewhere safe and do not use its links or attachments.
What to do if you clicked or shared information
You entered your Free password
Go to the official Free service independently and change the password as soon as possible. Change it anywhere else you reused it, too. Do not use a link in the suspicious email to reach the password-change page.
