Spend diamonds first on durable progression, not convenience. For a young account, community guidance generally favors building toward VIP milestones; after those foundations are in place, shift to targeted hero or weapon growth and event-specific purchases. Use alliance currency, gathered materials, and ordinary speedups for items you can obtain reliably without premium currency. Because server age, season, VIP level, roster, shop rotation, and event rules change the value of every offer, confirm the live cost and limits in your game before buying.
This approach is a decision method rather than a universal shopping list. The right purchase is the one that removes your current bottleneck, advances the squad you actually use, and has no better low-cost source at that moment.

What should I spend diamonds on in Last War: Survival?
Use this priority order as a starting point:
- Early account: work toward durable VIP benefits, especially the milestones that improve your everyday development.
- Established account: buy targeted hero shards, exclusive-weapon shards, or summons only when they improve your main formation and the banner or event offers a meaningful guarantee.
- Competitive window: reserve diamonds or speedups for a live event objective when the resulting score or placement matters to your alliance.
- Routine needs: obtain common resources through production, gathering, daily activity, and other currencies before paying diamonds.
Do not interpret that order as a permanent rule. A construction queue blocked during a decisive event, an unlocked drone system, or a guaranteed hero-pity opportunity can move a situational purchase ahead of a general recommendation. Before spending, identify what is stopping your next important goal and what you would lose by using your diamonds now.
A community Last War Budget Spending Planner uses the same practical question players often ask: “what should I spend diamonds on?” Its value is as a planning aid, not as an official price list or a promise that one account’s order works for every server.

Why the best purchase changes over time
Diamonds are flexible and scarce. Their opportunity cost is the set of future choices you give up when you spend them today. An item that feels expensive early can be efficient later if it prevents a high-value upgrade from missing an event window; the same item can be wasteful when the needed materials are already available through normal play.
Your bottleneck also moves. Basic food, iron, and coins commonly constrain buildings, troops, and research during early development. In the middle game, the limiting factor may be the duration of construction, training, research, or healing. Later, progress is more likely to depend on hero shards, exclusive weapons, drone parts, seasonal materials, or another specialized currency. Treat every recommendation as conditional on the system you have unlocked and the goal you are pursuing.
Server calendars matter as much as account age. An event can reward construction, research, training, recruitment, or use of consumables. A purchase made just before the relevant scoring period may be worth more than the same purchase on an ordinary day. Schedules, rules, shop inventory, and offer limits can change with updates, so do not copy dates from another server.

A six-question check before every purchase
Answer these questions in order. If you cannot state the answer clearly, keep the diamonds.
- What phase and VIP level is this account in? An early account has different priorities from one with mature heroes, a developed base, and several unlocked systems.
- What is the immediate bottleneck? Name the specific requirement for your next meaningful objective: a VIP point total, a building timer, a hero star level, a weapon material, or a specialized part.
- Can another source cover it? Check gathering, production, daily activities, alliance stores, event exchanges, mission rewards, and existing inventory before using diamonds.
- Does it help the active squad? Concentrate scarce materials on the formation you intend to field. Do not spread upgrades across heroes you are not using simply because an offer is available.
- Is the timing favorable? Look for a live event, a guaranteed outcome, a useful rotation, or a limited stock item. If none applies, waiting preserves flexibility.
- What is the opportunity cost? Compare this one-time gain with the persistent benefit or future option the same diamonds could buy.
Diamonds during early progression
Build toward foundational VIP milestones
The strongest early recommendation in the community material is to direct diamonds toward VIP progress rather than scattering them across small conveniences. A 2026 guide from Last War Vault places VIP 6 first because it describes the second builder as a persistent benefit, then suggests continuing toward VIP 8.
That guide reports approximately 150,000 cumulative VIP points for VIP 6 and about 500,000 for VIP 8. It also estimates roughly 75 days for a free-to-play player using its stated baseline of 200 VIP points per day. These are the guide’s estimates, not developer-published requirements; inspect the VIP screen in your current game because point totals, benefits, and acquisition rates can change.
The reason to favor a persistent unlock is compounding value. A second build queue can affect every later construction cycle, whereas an instant completion affects one timer. If your account has not reached the relevant milestone, compare any proposed purchase with the VIP progress that purchase could provide and with the time required to earn the same progress through normal play.

What to postpone early
The same guide advises against random summons and routine gem-bought speedups before foundational VIP goals are met. That is an efficiency recommendation, not a prohibition. A guaranteed event reward, a missing hero needed for your main formation, or a competitive deadline can justify an exception. The test is whether the purchase advances a defined goal rather than merely producing a short burst of activity.
Keep early development concentrated
Choose a main formation and a near-term upgrade path before buying materials. The core-systems overview at Last War Guide describes a five-hero formation and notes a troop-counter advantage that it reports as 20% less damage. Because that site is unofficial and game rules can be updated, verify the current combat explanation in-game. The practical lesson remains stable: a focused, compatible squad usually gives scarce shards and equipment a clearer purpose than a roster upgraded evenly.
Diamonds after key VIP milestones
Targeted summons, not random pulls
Once your foundational VIP objective is complete, summons can become a reasonable use of diamonds when they are tied to a hero your main formation needs. Prefer a relevant banner, a guaranteed-pity threshold, or an event with a clearly stated outcome. Before pulling, check the target’s role, faction or troop compatibility, current star level, and whether you can finish the upgrade rather than leaving a half-built substitute.
Indiscriminate summons are difficult to value because duplicates or off-plan heroes may consume diamonds without improving your next objective. Set a maximum spend before opening the banner. If the guarantee is beyond your budget, save rather than relying on luck to produce the required result.
Hero and exclusive-weapon shards
Selected hero shards and exclusive-weapon shards are situationally efficient when they advance a hero you actually field. Compare a shard purchase with the number needed for the next useful breakpoint, not merely with the fact that the item is discounted or available today. A shard that completes a star level or weapon upgrade can have a different value from one that leaves you several steps short.
Universal shards are flexible across eligible heroes, while named shards are restricted to the specified hero. The core guide recommends hoarding universal legendary shards and checking current eligibility rules before committing them. Read the item’s description and your inventory screen at the time of use; eligibility and conversion rules are game-system details that can change.
When speedups are worth spending
Preserve ordinary speedups for meaningful timers
Do not spend diamonds to remove a few minutes from an ordinary timer by default. Construction, research, training, and healing speedups have greater strategic value when saved for a major upgrade or a scoring window. Sprinkling them across small jobs can leave you unable to finish a high-impact action when it matters.
Use the event calendar, not a memorized schedule
The gem-economy guide gives competitive examples such as Alliance Duel VS Day 5, Marshal’s Guard placement, and a Capitol Conquest push as situations in which buying speedups can be conditional rather than automatically wasteful. Those event names and rules are not a fixed global timetable. Check your server’s current calendar, the scoring category, the points per action, and the rewards before converting diamonds into speed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA good event purchase has three parts: an action you already need, a clearly measurable score or placement benefit, and enough time to complete the action inside the event. If the purchase creates activity without improving the result you care about, retain the speedups.

Basic resources, decorations, and seasonal materials
Food, iron, and coins
Food, iron, and coins support buildings, troops, and research. The core-systems guide says these resources are more likely to bottleneck early and less pressing later as other progression systems take over. Use production, map gathering, missions, and ordinary rewards whenever they can meet the deadline.
A diamond-funded resource bundle is defensible only when all of the following are true:
- The resource is the actual blocker for a meaningful upgrade, not merely a convenient stock increase.
- The upgrade has a time-sensitive purpose, such as a live event or a critical unlock.
- Gathering, alliance help, exchanges, and existing inventory cannot meet the requirement in time.
- The bundle’s live cost and quantity are better for your objective than saving the diamonds for a flexible future use.
Decorations and convenience items
Decorations can be attractive, but they usually compete with progression for the same premium currency. Treat them as a deliberate cosmetic choice after you have checked your account’s bottleneck and reserved enough diamonds for planned milestones. A decoration should not be presented as an efficiency purchase unless its current in-game effect and cost establish that value.

Season-specific materials
Later seasons can introduce specialized materials and new exchange choices. Advice written for Season 6 or for a different server may not apply to your account’s season, unlocks, or shop inventory. Read the current item description, identify the system it feeds, and buy only enough to reach a defined upgrade or event objective.
How to use other currencies and materials
Alliance currency
Alliance currency should generally cover alliance-store items before diamonds do. The gem-economy guide’s order is targeted UR hero shards for heroes you use, other focused hero or weapon-growth options, skill medals, speedups, and resource bundles last. The separate Alliance Store guide lists teleports, speedups, resources, and buffs as examples, but it is a player-made reference rather than a guarantee of your live store rotation.
Inventory, refresh behavior, purchase limits, and prices can differ. Inspect your store before planning around a particular item. If a named shard directly advances your main hero and the store offers it, alliance currency is usually a better first funding source than diamonds because it preserves premium-currency flexibility.
Gathered and produced resources
Use production buildings and map gathering for common materials when the timing allows. Gather proactively before a planned construction or research cycle rather than waiting until the final minutes and paying a premium. Keep enough reserve for routine upkeep, but do not let common resources crowd out specialized materials if those are now the real limitation.

Hero shards
Separate universal and named shards in your planning. Universal shards can adapt to an eligible target later, so spending them on a minor breakpoint can be more costly than using named shards that cannot serve another hero. Confirm the current list of eligible heroes and the exact number required for the next upgrade before committing.
Drone parts and specialized systems
The core-systems guide identifies the Drone Center as unlocking at HQ15 and describes drone parts as dedicated materials for that progression system. Do not buy or hoard drone parts as a general-purpose upgrade if the Drone Center is not unlocked or drones are not part of your current plan. Once the system is active, compare a part purchase with the exact drone upgrade it enables and with event or alliance sources.
Speedups from non-premium sources
Speedup value depends on duration, the timer they can remove, and event scoring. Longer speedups applied to meaningful upgrades generally preserve more strategic value than tiny accelerations used for convenience. Keep a written or mental reserve for the next major event rather than treating every free speedup as permission to finish the current timer immediately.
Compare an offer on the dimensions that matter
When two purchases appear attractive, score each one against the same questions. “Best value” cannot be universal when account phase, unlocks, and rotations differ.

A practical spending routine
At the start of a play session
- Open the event and alliance panels and note the current scoring objectives, deadlines, and exchange limits.
- Check your VIP progress, building and research queues, hero upgrade targets, and specialized-system unlocks.
- Record the single resource or timer that blocks the next planned milestone.
- Review alliance-store stock and free sources before opening a diamond shop.
Before confirming a diamond purchase
- Write the exact result you expect, such as reaching a VIP threshold, completing a guaranteed summon, or finishing an event-scoring upgrade.
- Calculate whether your existing inventory and non-premium currencies can cover part of the requirement.
- Check the offer’s quantity, cost, purchase limit, expiration, and whether the item is bound to a hero or system.
- Set a spending cap. Stop when the defined result is reached instead of continuing because the first purchase created momentum.
After the purchase
- Apply the item to the intended upgrade immediately if its use is safe and irreversible only after you have rechecked the target.
- Leave a reserve for the next known milestone and for an unexpected event requirement.
- Update your plan when the bottleneck changes; do not keep buying the resource that was important yesterday.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Buying routine speedups because the timer is visible
Why it fails: a small convenience consumes a flexible resource that could finish an event-relevant upgrade. Correction: use ordinary speedups or wait unless the timer contributes to a defined competitive objective.
Pulling random summons before choosing a squad
Why it fails: duplicates and off-plan heroes dilute shards, gear, and training materials. Correction: select a main formation, wait for a relevant banner or guarantee, and cap the spend.
Buying common resources while free sources are full
Why it fails: diamonds pay for materials that gathering, production, or alliance currency could provide. Correction: compare the deadline with your gathering capacity and buy only the shortfall required for a meaningful goal.
Copying another server’s event schedule
Why it fails: server age, season, rotation, and event rules may differ. Correction: use the calendar displayed in your account and verify scoring before spending.

- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Spending universal shards on a minor upgrade
Why it fails: flexible shards can solve a future shortage for a key hero. Correction: use named shards where possible and reserve universal shards for a planned breakpoint.
Buying materials for an unlocked system too early
Why it fails: parts for drones or other specialized systems provide no current progress before the required unlock. Correction: confirm the system is active and identify the upgrade the material will complete.
Worked decisions for typical accounts
New account below the first VIP objective
You have a second build queue goal ahead, ordinary resources available through gathering, and no urgent event deadline. A VIP-directed purchase is usually more coherent than a random summon or a short speedup. Keep common resources flowing through normal channels and reassess after the milestone.
Mid-game account with a construction event tomorrow
Your next building level is ready except for a timer, and the event rewards that construction category. First use stored speedups and alliance help. If the remaining duration and event points justify it, a diamond purchase can be conditional; if the event does not score the action or the reward is not meaningful, wait.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Established account with a guaranteed hero banner
You use the featured hero in your main formation, have enough diamonds to reach the stated pity threshold, and can complete the resulting upgrade with existing shards. This is a stronger summon case than opening random pulls without a target. Confirm the guarantee, deadline, and duplicate rules in the live banner before committing.
HQ15 account deciding about drone parts
The Drone Center is unlocked and the next drone upgrade requires a known number of parts. Compare the diamond offer with alliance or event sources and buy only the shortfall that completes the planned upgrade. If the parts would sit unused, preserve the diamonds.
How to verify changing information
Community guides are useful for frameworks and examples, but they are not developer guarantees. The core-systems guide, gem-economy guide, and alliance-store reference all describe player-facing systems whose costs, rewards, and inventory can change after an update.
- Read the current VIP, shop, banner, and event panels in your own account.
- Check whether a figure applies to your server age, season, edition, or account type.
- Treat guide-reported totals as estimates unless the game itself confirms them.
- Recheck purchase limits and expiration immediately before spending.
The most reliable habit is to make diamonds answer a specific question: “What important result will this purchase secure that I cannot obtain as efficiently another way right now?” If you cannot provide that result, saving is the purchase.
Bottom line
For most early accounts, aim diamonds at durable VIP progress and protect them from low-impact convenience spending. After the key milestones, move to targeted hero, weapon, or event purchases that serve your active formation and have a clear guarantee or deadline. Let alliance currency, gathering, production, and ordinary rewards pay for common materials whenever possible. Re-evaluate whenever your bottleneck, season, server calendar, or shop rotation changes.
