The reliable way to create one zombie in 7 Days to Die is to use the in-game console, identify the target player with lpi, identify the current entity IDs with se, and then run the entity-spawn command. Debug Mode offers a menu-driven alternative through the F6 Entity Spawner. For larger encounters, spawnwh creates a wandering horde and spawnscouts creates a Screamer that approaches from a distance.

These tools require console or administrator permission, and command names, entity IDs, and interface behavior can vary between game versions, platforms, and server configurations. Always use the IDs shown by your current build rather than relying on a copied list.

What you need before spawning anything
- Console access: You must be playing a build or server where you are allowed to use console commands. On a dedicated server, your account also needs the permission level assigned by the server administrator.
- A target player: The direct command places the entity at the selected player’s location, so you need that player’s numeric ID.
- The current entity ID: The internal ID used by the game may not match the name shown in the user interface. Obtain it from the current
seoutput instead of guessing. - A controlled test area: Spawned enemies can attack immediately. Use a location where an unexpected horde will not destroy a base, trap an unprepared player, or interfere with another player’s session.
If you do not have permission, the command may be rejected or produce no useful result. There is no client-side workaround that should be used to bypass a server’s access controls.
Spawn one zombie at a player’s location
This is the precise method when you want one selected entity rather than a naturally generated group.

1. Open the console
Open the game’s console using the key or control assigned by your platform and current input layout. The exact key can differ by keyboard, platform, or version. You should see a console prompt before entering commands.
2. Find the player ID with lpi
Enter:
lpi
The command lists player information, including the ID needed by the spawn command. Record the ID of the player who should receive the zombie. In multiplayer, do not assume that the first listed player is the correct target.

Enter:
se
This lists the entity IDs available in the current build. Match the desired zombie to the internal name or ID shown in the output. Display names and internal entity names are not guaranteed to be identical, which is why using the live list is safer than copying an ID from an older guide.
4. Run the three-part spawn command
Use the player ID from lpi and the entity ID from se:
spawnentity <playerID> <entityID>
The command’s short alias is se, so the equivalent form is:
se <playerID> <entityID>
Replace both angle-bracketed values with the actual numbers or identifiers shown by your console. Do not type the brackets themselves. The entity is created at the selected player’s location. If another player is the target, warn them first: the zombie can appear beside them without the normal environmental cues that accompany a natural spawn.

5. Confirm the result
Close or minimize the console and look at the target player’s position. If nothing appears, reopen the console and check for a permission error, a malformed command, or an entity ID that is not valid in your version. Run se again after an update or mod change because the available list can change.
Use Debug Mode and the F6 Entity Spawner
Debug Mode is useful when you want to choose an entity from a menu instead of finding an internal ID. Enable Debug Mode through the game’s current debug control, then press F6 to open the Entity Spawner. Select the entity from the list and confirm the spawn.
The menu route is convenient for experimentation, but it still depends on the permissions and debug features available in your build or server. If F6 does nothing, verify that Debug Mode is actually enabled, that the game window has focus, and that your keyboard or platform maps the function key correctly. A server can also restrict debug functionality even when the local client has the key available.
Spawn a wandering horde
For a group that approaches the player rather than a single enemy placed directly beside them, use:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutespawnwh
This command creates a wandering horde in the distance. The horde generally moves toward the player from the location where it was spawned, giving you time to observe or prepare for the approach. It is not the same as an unlimited stream of enemies: the actual number that appears is still affected by the game’s spawning limits and the available entity budget.
Because the horde starts away from the player, it may take time to arrive or may follow terrain and navigation paths that make its route unpredictable. Avoid issuing the command inside a crowded base or near players who have not agreed to the test.

Spawn a Screamer
To create one Screamer at a distance, enter:
spawnscouts
The command creates a Screamer away from the player and makes it navigate toward the location where the command was used. This is useful for testing defenses, noise management, or a base’s response to a Screamer without waiting for the normal heat-based spawning process.
A Screamer can change the situation after it reaches the area, so treat the command as a live combat event rather than a harmless visual test. Keep a retreat route open and make sure other players know that an additional enemy may be approaching.
How Blood Moon hordes differ from manual spawning
A Blood Moon is the game’s recurring, built-in horde event. It is governed by the world’s Game Stage, the number of players, timers, and spawn caps rather than by a command that continuously creates enemies.
Game Stage controls strength and wave progression
Wave composition and zombie strength are driven by Game Stage. A low-Game-Stage world and a late-game world therefore do not produce equivalent Blood Moon encounters, even if the same players use the same calendar setting.
Two separate limits control how many are active
The official reference lists these default values:
| Setting | Default reference value | What it limits |
|---|---|---|
| Max Spawned Zombies | 64 | The maximum number of spawned entities allowed across the world at one time. |
| Blood Moon Enemy Count per player | 8 | The Blood Moon enemy allowance calculated for each player. |
These values interact. In multiplayer, the per-player allowance can total more than the world-wide cap, but the world cap still limits how many can exist simultaneously. Server operators can change the settings, so the defaults should not be treated as a guarantee for every save or server.
Blood Moon waves end
Each wave has a finite total and a timer. Killing the wave or allowing its timer to expire advances the event. At 04:00, the Blood Moon is complete and any remaining Blood Moon zombies return to normal behavior. This is fundamentally different from repeatedly issuing a spawn command, which creates entities on demand and does not turn the event into an endless wave.

Why a zombie may not appear
The command is rejected
Check that you have console or administrator permission. On a server, the host may need to assign the required permission level; being able to open a console does not necessarily grant every command.
The syntax is wrong
The direct route requires both a player ID and an entity ID. Verify that you used the three-part pattern and replaced the placeholders with values from the current session:
spawnentity <playerID> <entityID>
Do not add explanatory words, punctuation, or the angle brackets. If the full command fails, try the documented alias with the same two values:
se <playerID> <entityID>
The entity name or ID is outdated
Run se again and select an ID from the output. A name found in an old video, mod guide, or different platform build may no longer be valid. The display name in a menu can also differ from the internal name accepted by the console.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
The target is wrong
Run lpi and verify the selected player ID. In multiplayer, an incorrect ID can place the zombie beside another player, making it appear that the command did not work in your location.
The world is at its spawn cap
If the command is accepted but no additional entity appears, existing entities may be consuming the available spawn capacity. This is especially relevant during a Blood Moon or when several players are generating enemies in different areas. Clear unwanted entities or wait for the active event to finish, then test again.
Best Value
Normal zombies are missing or excessive
Inspect the world’s Enemy Spawning and related game settings. A disabled or heavily reduced normal-spawn setting can make the world appear empty even though manual commands work. Conversely, unusually high values can make ordinary areas seem permanently overrun.
Bedroll or cleared-area behavior is involved
Dedicated-server references describe a bedroll dead zone that prevents normal zombie spawning inside its area and affects cleared sleeper volumes. This applies to normal world spawning, not necessarily to every administrative spawn command. If a base or cleared building behaves differently from the surrounding biome, check whether a bedroll-related protected area explains the result.

If your goal is to alter how the world naturally produces zombies, a command is only a temporary intervention. Dedicated servers expose settings such as these in serverconfig.xml:
BloodMoonFrequencycontrols the recurring Blood Moon interval.BloodMoonEnemyCountchanges the Blood Moon allowance per player.MaxSpawnedZombieschanges the world-wide active spawn cap.
Back up the configuration before editing it, stop the server if its management panel requires that, and restart after saving so the server reloads the values. The exact accepted values and configuration names should be checked against the server version you are running; a setting copied from another release may be ignored or behave differently.
World and biome spawning can also be changed through dedicated-server spawning configuration. That is a configuration or modding route, not a quick gameplay command. It is appropriate when you are designing a persistent custom server, but it requires more testing because changes can affect sleeper volumes, biome balance, performance, and the experience of every connected player.
Choosing the right method
| Goal | Use | Result | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Place one selected zombie beside a player | spawnentity or its se alias |
One entity at the selected player’s location | Requires current player and entity IDs plus permission. |
| Pick an entity from a menu | Debug Mode, then F6 |
Menu-driven entity selection | Debug access and key behavior vary by build and platform. |
| Test a moving group | spawnwh |
Wandering horde created in the distance | Arrival path and timing depend on navigation and spawn limits. |
| Test a Screamer attack | spawnscouts |
One Screamer approaches from a distance | It can create a dangerous combat situation once it reaches the area. |
| Run the game’s scheduled horde event | Blood Moon settings and calendar | Finite waves governed by Game Stage and timers | Enemy count is constrained by per-player and world-wide caps. |
| Change natural spawning permanently | Server configuration or modding | Persistent world or biome spawn behavior | Requires server administration, backups, and version-specific testing. |
Version, platform, and server caveats
Console commands are not guaranteed to have identical behavior across every release or platform. The same applies to Debug Mode, function-key shortcuts, permission systems, and the entity list. A dedicated server may expose commands that a single-player session handles differently, while a host can restrict commands that appear available locally.
For dependable results, treat the current session as authoritative: obtain player IDs with lpi, obtain entity IDs with se, and test in a disposable area before using a command in a live community world. If an update changes the output or rejects a previously valid command, do not force an old syntax; consult the command behavior exposed by that build and the server administrator’s permission settings.
