During “Escape from Helheim” in God of War (2018), break all three runic seal statues to open the Nornir chest before boarding the spectral ship. You reach it after clearing the dock and using a large stone block to cross a gap. One seal can appear in one of three locations, and another is concealed inside a movable block.
Where to find the Helheim Nornir chest
Look for the chest on the return trip through Helheim with Atreus, after the dock area and before you board the spectral ship. Clear the dock enemies, then push the large stone block into the gap and use it to cross. Follow the walkway to the chest. Prima Games’ walkthrough gives the detailed route; Gameranx also places the chest in this later dock sequence.

How to open the chest
You must break three runic seal statues. From the chest, head right and use the Blades of Chaos to burn the Hel bramble. A second movable block is behind it. Use this block to reach the seals, checking the variable statue’s possible locations before returning to the chest.

Prima Games reports that this seal has three possible placements. Check each landmark in turn; its position can differ from one playthrough to another:
#1 Best Overall
- Physical combat over the shoulder free camera brings the action closer than ever combat in God of war is up close frenetic and unflinching. Kratos' Axes powerful, magic and multi faceted is a brutal weapon as well as a versatile tool for exploration
- Midgard and beyond: Set within the untamed forests, mountains, and realms of Norse lore, God of war features a distinctly new setting with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters, and gods
- Vicious, physical combat with an over the shoulder free camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before
- Look through the narrow side passage and along its ledge for a statue on a low pillar.
- Look across the water for a statue on a tall pillar.
- Pull the second block to open the passage and check inside it.
Use these landmarks rather than relying on compass directions, which can be described differently across walkthroughs.
2. Break the statue hidden inside the second block
Pull the second block only partway, until it covers the narrow side passage. Look through the block’s front iron bars: the statue is inside, and the back is open. Climb over the block, drop down behind it onto the ledge, and break the statue with the Leviathan Axe.
Rank #2
- Feel your journey through the Norse realms, made possible by immersive haptic feedback and adaptive trigger functionality.
- Take advantage of multidirectional 3D Audio; hear enemies approaching from any direction. (3D audio with stereo headphones (analog or USB))
- Bask in the beautiful worlds you travel through, brought to life by precise art direction and arresting attention to detail.
- Switch between full 4K resolution at a targeted 30 frames per second, or dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K at a targeted 60fps. (4K resolution requires a compatible 4K TV or display)
3. Reach the seal beside the yellow-marked ledge
Move the block all the way beneath the yellow-marked ledge beside the chest. Climb onto the block and then the ledge. From the Hacksilver chest there, look right toward a broken column in the water. Throw the Leviathan Axe slightly above the statue’s head to break the final seal. Return to the Nornir chest and open it.
When to collect it—and what missing it means
Collect the chest before boarding the ship, while you are still in the “Escape from Helheim” sequence. Game of Guides says this quest-area chest is excluded from the game’s Nornir chest total and that the area is accessible only during this chapter. Game8’s search excerpt says the chest becomes permanently missable after boarding, but the page could not be opened to verify that claim. The safest course is to solve it before leaving Helheim rather than relying on a return visit.
