Tormented Souls 2 is solved by treating your inventory as a set of tools and clues, not a key ring. Examine every important object, manipulate it when possible, combine parts into a usable item, and then look for the room or mechanism that matches what you made. The exact solutions below cover the Convent, School, and Processing Plant puzzles most likely to stop progress, with hints separated from spoiler-heavy sequences.
What Tormented Souls 2 expects you to do
Tormented Souls 2 is a survival-horror game developed by Dual Effect and published by PQube. The Steam store listing gives its release date as October 23, 2025, and presents puzzle solving and inventory management as central systems rather than optional distractions.

That sentence describes the practical loop. A pickup may be a component rather than a finished key; an apparently useless object may reveal a symbol when rotated or examined; and a solved inventory item may only work in one specific room. When you are stuck, ask three questions in order:
#1 Best Overall
- Take on the role of the Herald, Pyromancer, or Warrior as you navigate the haunted ruins of The Sunless City. Your ultimate challenge?
- A brutal battle against the formidable Dragon Slayer Ornstein and the fearsome Executioner Smough.
- 1-3 players
- 100 minutes + play time
- Ages: 14+
- What can I inspect, rotate, open, or otherwise manipulate?
- Which two or more objects could form a tool or expose hidden information?
- Where in the current area is there a physical mechanism that matches the new item’s shape, material, symbols, or purpose?
The solutions in this guide are reported by third-party walkthroughs. They are presented as direct answers for players who have already tried the intended clues, not as claims of personal gameplay testing.
A reliable inventory method
Inspect before using
Do not discard an item mentally just because it does not fit an obvious lock. Examine it in the inventory first. Turn over, open, or otherwise manipulate anything that appears mechanical, symbolic, or incomplete. A part can carry a clue, while two parts that look unrelated can become the tool the room requires.
Separate components from finished tools
Keep a short mental list with three categories:
- Components: parts that are likely to combine with another object.
- Tools: finished items that can be applied to scenery, a body, a container, or a machine.
- Information objects: items whose symbols, positions, or internal mechanisms provide an answer rather than opening a conventional lock.
The Convent’s saw parts demonstrate the distinction: the Sawblade and Saw Handle are components; the Handsaw is the finished tool; and the Cryptex is an information object whose arrangement produces the next key.

Environmental puzzles often convert an image or reading into an action. A clock-like time can indicate positions on a dial or candle circle. A sign can tell you whether valves should be vertical or horizontal. Portraits can depict the action that must be performed in front of them. If an object has no obvious text instruction, inspect nearby scenery for a shape, repeated symbol, orientation, or depicted action that matches it.
Adopt a hint-first escalation
To preserve the game’s tension, use this order:
- Re-examine every new inventory item and the objects you collected immediately before getting stuck.
- Search the current room and its adjacent rooms for a matching material or symbol.
- Try the action suggested by the environment without changing unrelated mechanisms.
- Use the relevant hint below, stopping before the exact sequence if you still want to solve the final step yourself.
- Use the direct sequence only when the puzzle is blocking progress or you are ready for the spoiler.
Save before committing to a multi-step mechanism when possible. That gives you a clean attempt if a dial, figure, or valve is changed in the wrong order.
Convent puzzles
Frozen Hand, stove, Cryptex, and Crown Key
This is an inventory-chain puzzle: two parts become a cutting tool, the tool frees a frozen object, heat changes that object into a new item, and the new item contains the final arrangement.
Hint: Look for a saw component in the gallows area and another behind movable furniture in the Refectory. The frozen hand in the Kitchen freezer is not the final target; it must be changed by heat after you cut it free.
Direct solution:
- Collect the Sawblade at the gallows.
- Move the shelf in the Refectory and take the Saw Handle behind it.
- Combine the Sawblade and Saw Handle in the inventory. The result is a Handsaw.
- Use the Handsaw on the frozen hand in the Kitchen freezer.
- Use the Lighter to light a stove.
- Place the freed Frozen Hand on the hot burner. It changes into the Cryptex.
- Arrange the Cryptex pieces from left to right as Knight, Rook, Bishop, Queen, King, Pawn, Knight.
- Open the Cryptex to obtain the Crown Key.
The important deduction is that the hand is an intermediate object. If you take it to a door immediately, you have skipped the environmental connection: cold preservation is followed by heat, and the resulting Cryptex is the object that contains the actual lock answer.
Rank #2
Prison-cell power box
This mechanism combines a physical tool with a five-position dial code. The wire prevents access until the box is opened, and the lever does not complete the puzzle until the dials are set correctly.
Hint: The answer is not found by repeatedly pulling the lever. Open the box first, then read the dial positions from left to right.
Direct solution:
- Use the Pliers on the wire covering the power box.
- Set the five dials, from left to right, to Right, Left, Left, Left, Right.
- Return to the prison-cell room and activate the lever.
If the cells remain locked, check both parts of the sequence: a correctly positioned box still requires the room’s lever, and pulling the lever before opening and setting the box does not substitute for the code.
School puzzles
Science Lab animal figures
The Science Lab stand uses an ordered set of animal figures. Treat the stand as a sequence puzzle rather than a collection puzzle; having all four figures is not enough if their order is wrong.
Hint: Reconsider the order suggested by the stand’s clue and move the figures one position at a time. Do not assume alphabetical order or the order in which you found them.
Solution: Arrange the figures from left to right as Hawk, Snake, Toad, Fly.
Director’s Office Combination Key
The Combination Key uses three symbols. Set them in the stated order rather than rotating through combinations at random.
Solution: Female Symbol, Cross, Moon.
Computer Lab locker
The Computer Lab locker has a different three-symbol combination from the Director’s Office. A correct answer in one room does not carry over to the other.
Solution: Sun, Heart, Man Symbol.
When a symbol lock appears to reject a correct-looking input, verify the room first. The School contains multiple three-symbol mechanisms, and substituting the Director’s Office order at the Computer Lab locker will not open it.
Processing Plant puzzles
Warehouse mirror and candle positions
The Warehouse mirror displays 03:45:20. Read that display as positional information, not as a time at which you must wait. The candles form a clock face, and the useful positions are the hour-and-minute-style locations represented by the clue.
Hint: Imagine the candle layout as a clock. Translate the clue into positions before lighting anything; the seconds value is not a separate candle instruction.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Solution: Light the candles at positions 3, 9, and 4.
This is a good example of an environmental clue encoding an action. The mirror does not hand you a conventional four-digit password; it tells you where to interact with the room.
Incinerator valves
The incinerator puzzle is an orientation problem. Set every valve to the vertical position, then operate them in the sequence reported by the walkthrough.
Required orientation: all valves vertical.
Valve sequence:
- Bottom left
- Top middle
- Bottom middle
- Middle left
- Middle right
- Top right
- Top left
- Bottom left
The repeated bottom-left entry is intentional in the reported sequence. If the machine does not respond, check orientation first; setting the valves in the right order while leaving one horizontal produces the same apparent failure as using the wrong order.

Dining Room portraits and the Mechanical Jack
Each Dining Room portrait depicts an action. Match the corresponding tool or control to the picture in front of you. This is not a symbol-code puzzle, so entering an abstract sequence will not help.

- Forging portrait: strike the forging picture with the Hammer.
Complete all four depicted actions to receive the Mechanical Jack. If one portrait does not register, stand in front of the matching image and make the action represented there rather than applying every tool to every portrait.

There are two useful ways to consult a guide, depending on how much of the game you want to preserve.
| Approach | Best for | How to use it | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hint-first puzzle help | Players who want to keep solving | Read the hint for the room, then stop before the direct sequence | Requires another attempt and careful inspection |
| Direct puzzle solution | A blocked progression point or repeat playthrough | Follow the listed item, position, and action sequence exactly | Reveals the answer and removes the deduction step |
| Area-specific walkthrough | Players lost in one location | Open only the section for the current area | May omit context from an earlier area |
| Full-game route | Players tracking overall progress | Follow connected sections from the beginning of the game | Creates substantially more story and puzzle spoilers |
An area-specific route is usually the least disruptive choice. Into Indie Games organizes walkthrough material by Convent Part 1 and Part 2, Commercial District/Butcher Shop/Mall, Processing Plant, Cemetery, School, Church, and Bunker. Open the section matching your current location instead of searching a full-game page for a single code.

Troubleshooting when a correct solution seems not to work
The item will not combine
- Inspect both objects individually before attempting the combination.
- Confirm that you have the component, not a visually similar object from another room.
- Look for a third step after combining. The Handsaw is not used on a lock; it is used on the frozen hand.
The mechanism accepts the setting but does nothing
- Check whether a second interaction is required, such as the prison-room lever after the power box dials.
- Verify that every element has the required orientation. The incinerator needs all valves vertical, not merely the valves in the correct order.
- Make sure you are operating the mechanism in the named room. A solved object can be intended for a different room or machine.
A symbol sequence is rejected
- Confirm the exact location. The Director’s Office and Computer Lab use different three-symbol answers.
- Check left-to-right order, not just whether the correct symbols appear somewhere on the lock.
- Inspect the mechanism again after changing it; some locks require a final activation rather than an automatic opening.
You cannot tell what an environmental clue means
- Ask whether the clue resembles a clock, a map, a repeated shape, or a depicted action.
- Translate the clue into a physical interaction: the Warehouse mirror’s 03:45:20 becomes candle positions, while the portraits become tool actions.
- Search the immediate room before returning to every previously visited area. The intended target is often the object whose form matches the clue.
A compact decision framework for getting unstuck
Use this sequence whenever progress stops:
- Inventory pass: examine every recent pickup and test plausible component combinations.
- Room pass: inspect containers, movable furniture, bodies, machines, portraits, dials, and anything with an unusual orientation.
- Clue translation: convert text, time, symbols, or images into a position, order, orientation, or action.
- Location match: carry the resulting tool or information object to the room whose mechanism matches it.
- Completion check: perform the final lever pull, heating step, portrait action, or other activation required to make the game register the solution.
This process prevents the most common mistake in Tormented Souls 2: treating a puzzle as a single password when it is actually a chain of inspection, combination, environmental use, and final activation.
Area-by-area spoiler control
If you only need one answer, identify your location before opening a guide:
- Convent: use the frozen-hand/Cryptex or prison-cell power-box sections.
- School: use the animal-figure, Director’s Office, or Computer Lab sections.
- Processing Plant: use the Warehouse mirror, incinerator, or Dining Room portrait sections.
- Elsewhere: use the corresponding Cemetery, Church, Bunker, Commercial District, Butcher Shop, or Mall area section rather than reading unrelated solutions.
Keeping the guide scoped to the current area preserves discoveries in rooms you have not reached and makes it easier to distinguish an inventory problem from a navigation problem.
What to remember about the game’s puzzle language
Tormented Souls 2 repeatedly asks you to connect an object’s physical identity with its context. A blade and handle become a saw; a frozen hand becomes a Cryptex after heat; a mirror’s time display becomes candle positions; a portrait becomes an instruction for a tool or control. The answer is therefore often found by asking “what can this object become, and where would that result make sense?” rather than “which door does this key open?”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse exact sequences only after you have identified the correct room and mechanism. That habit keeps the walkthrough useful without turning every puzzle into blind code entry, and it makes the inventory system’s intended logic visible even when you need a direct solution.
