The reliable way to solve Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival puzzles is to treat every room as a clue sheet before treating it as a lock. Pause when you enter, inspect notes and images, identify the object that resembles the mechanism, and only then manipulate it. If a corridor or room keeps repeating, stop assuming forward progress is correct: turn around, change your route, or test the space from another perspective. The examples below use controlled spoilers and explain the observation that leads to each reported solution, rather than presenting unexplained codes.
What the puzzle design expects from you
Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival is a single-player, first-person action-horror survival game. Saber Interactive’s official FAQ lists an October 8, 2026 release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam. The official Steam description places Aidan in the Labyrinth and identifies the Genesis Configuration puzzle box as the tool he uses to help Sunny escape.

That premise matters mechanically. The puzzles are not presented as disconnected combination locks. They are embedded in rooms, images, objects and changes in the environment. A solution is often visible nearby, but represented in a different form: a picture becomes a rotating lock pattern, a painting becomes a set of statue poses, or a plaque becomes an order for bells. The fastest route is therefore not random interaction. It is observation followed by a deliberate match between clue and mechanism.
Assistant Game Director Vid Rajin described the design philosophy in the PlayStation Blog feature Inside the brutal puzzles of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival: “We use the Genesis Configuration – a puzzle box – at the centre of things.” He also said, “The labyrinth Aidan is trapped in is intertwined with the real world.” Those statements explain why the game can make a familiar house, corridor or object behave unnaturally: the environment itself can carry the puzzle instruction.
#1 Best Overall
- A New Story in Hellraiser's Canon – Unwittingly kickstart Pinhead’s ritual to unleash greater pain and pleasure than ever before.
- Harness the Power of the Box – Combine the unique, hellish abilities of the Configuration with an arsenal of earthly weapons to inflict bone-breaking, flesh-searing pain - or is it pleasure? - upon masochistic enemies.
- Fight Against Unholy Enemies – Take on hell's wretches, deviants, cultists, and even its most infernal priests in a story-driven horror survival game.
The clue-first loop that prevents missed evidence
Use this loop every time the game introduces a new room, a locked object or a repeated route. It is designed to minimize backtracking without turning the game into a code hunt.
- Pause before interacting. Stand still and sweep the entire room. Check walls, desks, shelves, doors, floors and the space behind your initial line of sight. Do not touch the obvious mechanism until you know what else is present.
- Inventory the unusual details. Give extra attention to handwritten notes, diagrams, paintings, photographs, plaques, statues, bells and objects placed in a conspicuously neat or conspicuously crooked arrangement. A clue may be decorative in another game but functional here.
- Classify what you found. Ask whether the item supplies a number or date, a visual arrangement, a sequence, a shape, a direction, or a rule about where to move. This prevents you from trying a visual clue on a numeric lock simply because the lock is nearby.
- Find the mechanism that resembles the clue. A desk picture suggests an image-based lock; a painting showing figures suggests statues; a plaque naming or depicting bells suggests a bell sequence. Look for a physical correspondence, not merely proximity.
- Test the smallest possible change. Rotate one section, move one statue, ring one bell or turn around once. Observe what changes. Small tests reveal whether the mechanism is accepting input without scrambling your understanding.
- Record the relationship in your notes. Write “picture pattern → cabinet lock,” “painting poses → statues” or “plaque → bell order.” If you leave and return later, you will remember the clue chain rather than only a string of inputs.
This process also gives you a recovery point. If the mechanism does not respond, you can revisit the classification step instead of cycling through every possible combination.
How to read the three kinds of clues
Visual clues: copy relationships, not isolated symbols
Visual clues usually communicate arrangement. Compare the relative position, orientation and grouping of elements rather than counting a single flower, figure or mark. If a picture shows a pattern split into sections, determine which part belongs to the left, middle and right section of the mechanism. If a painting shows bodies in different poses, note the pose of each individual figure and its location in the scene.

A crooked photograph may not be a code at all; it can be a warning that the room is abnormal. Before copying a visual arrangement, ask whether the image is instructing you to manipulate an object or telling you to question the space around you.
Written clues: preserve the wording and the reference point
Read notes and plaques completely before reducing them to a number or order. A phrase such as “300 years after the Great Fire” contains both an interval and a historical reference. The GameSpew walkthrough reports that this clue is interpreted as 1966 by using the Great Fire of London in 1666 and adding 300 years. That is a reported walkthrough solution, not a claim that every date clue in the game uses the same convention.
When a note names an event, place or object, write down the exact wording and identify what the game expects you to do with it: calculate a year, follow an order, locate an item or connect it to a nearby mechanism. Avoid silently replacing an unusual phrase with a familiar code.
Environmental clues: treat movement as an input
Some puzzles do not have a keypad, dial or inventory item. The room layout and your route are the mechanism. Repeated rooms, impossible corridors and an enemy appearing in predictable places are signals to test movement itself. Ask whether the correct action is to reverse direction, choose a different branch or approach a familiar space from another side.
Rajin’s description of a house sequence makes this explicit: rooms repeat, and the solution is to turn back rather than continue forward. In another example, escaping Chatterer depends on discovering which corridor he does not teleport in front of. These are not arbitrary “try every hallway” challenges. They reward observing the rule that governs the repetition and then deliberately violating your first assumption.
Genesis Configuration puzzles: use the box as a physical key
The Genesis Configuration is more than a story prop. The official Steam listing presents it as Aidan’s central puzzle-box tool, and the launch walkthrough describes rotating it to match relief shapes. When you see a relief, recess or outline that appears designed to receive the cube, inspect both surfaces before turning anything.
Match the silhouette before rotating
First identify the broad outline: a notch, ridge, corner or protrusion that can only fit one way. Then rotate the Configuration in controlled increments, watching the edges rather than the center decoration. If the shape almost fits, do not assume the input failed; one face may be aligned while another is inverted. Return to the starting orientation and change one axis at a time.
Rank #2
Use the surrounding relief as the instruction
A relief can communicate the required orientation without displaying a written command. Compare its negative space with each face of the cube. The goal is not to solve a generic Rubik’s Cube; it is to reproduce the shape the environment is showing you. If a nearby mark, image or object appears to echo the relief, inspect that before experimenting further.
Confirm completion without guessing
Once the shape fits, look for a clear environmental response such as an opened passage or changed mechanism. If nothing changes, check that the cube is seated fully and that you matched the complete relief rather than one visible edge. Do not abandon the clue chain and start rotating randomly: the walkthrough’s example is specifically a shape-matching action.
Spoiler-controlled examples and the clue behind each solution
The following examples are arranged from low to higher spoiler exposure. Exact answers come from Kim Snaith’s GameSpew walkthrough published October 8, 2026, a secondary guide. They illustrate the game’s clue logic; they are not an independently tested or complete list of every puzzle solution.
Low spoiler: the looping house
What to notice: photographs appear crooked or distorted, and rooms seem to repeat.
What the clue means: the house is not behaving like a normal sequence of rooms. The visual distortion is evidence that the environment itself is the puzzle.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAction: when the route loops, turn back instead of continuing forward. Rajin’s PlayStation Blog interview identifies this change of direction as the solution to the house sequence. The important transferable lesson is to treat repetition as a rule to decode, not as a demand to walk the same path faster.
Medium spoiler: the safe or cupboard date
Clue: a note says “300 years after the Great Fire.”
Reported interpretation: the GameSpew walkthrough uses the Great Fire of London, dated 1666, and adds 300 years to reach 1966.
How to apply the method: preserve the historical reference, perform the stated offset, and enter the resulting year only at the matching safe or cupboard mechanism. If your game does not accept the result, reread the note for the exact event and check that you are using the intended lock; do not assume every “300 years after” clue points to the same event.
Medium spoiler: the rotating picture lock
Clue: a picture on a desk shows a flower pattern.
Mechanism: the cabinet lock is divided into rotating sections.
Rank #3
Solution logic: reproduce the flower arrangement shown in the picture by rotating the corresponding lock sections. Compare each section after every turn. The picture is not merely atmosphere; it is a template for the lock’s final visual state.
Medium spoiler: statues and the painting
Clue: a painting depicts figures in specific positions.
Mechanism: several statues can be moved.
Solution logic: move the statues until their poses and positions match the composition in the painting. Check the whole scene, including which figure occupies which place, rather than matching only one statue’s posture.

Higher spoiler: the Genesis Configuration relief
Clue: a relief presents a shape that corresponds to the cube.
Mechanism: the Genesis Configuration can be rotated.
Solution logic: rotate the cube until its relief-facing shape fits the displayed outline. The walkthrough describes this as a direct shape-matching puzzle, so inspect the edges and recesses before trying arbitrary rotations.
Higher spoiler: the Spirit Warding Bell order
Clue: a plaque specifies an order, and one Spirit Warding Bell is missing.

An incomplete set can make a correct sequence appear impossible.
Solution logic: use the plaque’s instruction to arrange the bells in the required order. Treat the plaque as authoritative for sequence; do not infer an order from the bells’ visual size or position unless the plaque supports it.
Higher spoiler: escaping Chatterer
Clue: Chatterer repeatedly appears in front of you as you try corridors.
Rank #4
Mechanism: the route, not an inventory item, determines whether the encounter continues.

You found a clue but cannot identify the lock
- Re-scan the room for an object with the same visual language: segmented picture clues usually belong to segmented locks, while poses belong to movable figures.
- Check adjacent rooms and desks. The clue and mechanism may be separated by a short transition rather than placed side by side.
- Look for a required item, such as the missing Spirit Warding Bell, before entering a sequence.
The mechanism accepts input but never opens
- Verify orientation and order, not just individual symbols. A correct flower section in the wrong position is still wrong.
- Reset to a known state if possible, then change one element at a time so you can see which input affects the puzzle.
- Check whether the clue describes a movement rule instead of a combination. Repeated rooms and enemy teleportation require route changes, not object manipulation.
You are stuck in a loop
- Stop walking forward and turn around once. The house example specifically uses reversal as the solution.
- Compare what changes between repetitions: photographs, room details, enemy position and available branches.
- Try the corridor or doorway that breaks the pattern, as in the Chatterer sequence, rather than repeating the safest-looking route.
You want help without losing the whole puzzle
Use progressive hints. First reveal the clue category—date, visual pattern, statue arrangement, bell order, shape or route. Next identify the matching mechanism. Only then consult the reported answer. This preserves the act of recognizing why the solution works, which is the skill the game reuses across rooms.
A practical room-scan checklist
Keep this checklist beside you when entering a new area:
- Text: Have I read every note, plaque and label without paraphrasing away an important reference?
- Images: Did I inspect photographs, diagrams, paintings and desk pictures for arrangements or warnings?
- Objects: Are any statues, bells, cubes, cabinets or reliefs placed as if they belong together?
- Shape: Does the Genesis Configuration have a matching recess or relief nearby?
- Sequence: Does any plaque or written clue specify an order?
- Environment: Are rooms repeating, photographs distorted or corridors behaving inconsistently?
- Route: Have I tested turning back or taking the branch that changes the enemy’s predictable position?
- Verification: After acting, did the environment respond, or do I need to confirm that the complete pattern—not just one part—matches?

How much confidence to place in published solutions
Official material is strongest for the game’s premise and design intent. The Saber Interactive FAQ establishes the release, platforms and formats. The Steam listing establishes Aidan’s use of the Genesis Configuration to help Sunny. The PlayStation Blog interview with Vid Rajin explains why environmental perspective, repeated rooms and route exceptions matter.
The exact date, picture-lock, statue, relief and bell solutions above are reported by GameSpew’s launch walkthrough. It is a useful secondary guide, but it does not establish a complete, independently validated catalogue of every puzzle. If your scene differs because of progression state or a later update, return to the clue-first method: identify the local clue, match its form to the mechanism and verify the resulting environmental response.
Compact decision tree for getting unstuck
- Is there text? Read it literally. If it contains an event and an interval, calculate from the named reference; if it names an order, preserve that order.
- Is there an image? Copy the arrangement to the matching lock, statues or other movable objects.
- Is there a relief or recess? Compare its silhouette with the Genesis Configuration and rotate the cube to fit.
- Is there a plaque and a set of objects? Find any missing object, then use the plaque to determine the sequence.
- Is the environment repeating? Test reversal and perspective changes before searching for a code.
- Is an enemy controlling the route? Observe where it appears, then test the branch that breaks that pattern.
- Did nothing change? Recheck that you matched the complete arrangement, used every required object and interacted with the intended mechanism.
Following this order keeps spoilers proportional to the problem. You first learn to see the clue, then to identify its mechanism, and only at the final stage consult an exact reported answer.
