For any method, keep the original full-page image. It provides a reference if a crop omits content or if you need to verify slice order.
How to choose slice height and overlap
There is no universally correct slice height. Consider how the image will be read: a section that looks fine at full resolution may be too small when embedded in a document or sent to an AI system. Smaller slices can make individual sections easier to inspect, but create more files and make ordering and overlap more important.
- Keep a title, heading, table row, code block, or UI control intact within one slice when practical.
- Use overlap so a reader or downstream process can connect the end of one section to the beginning of the next. A 200–500 px overlap is a reasonable starting experiment, not a universal standard.
- Check whether sticky headers or fixed toolbars recur in each slice; repeated elements can obscure page content.
- Name output files in order, such as
page-01,page-02, andpage-03. - For a dashboard or web app, identify the element that actually scrolls. Capturing the document may not capture content inside an independently scrolling panel.
ScreenshotOne’s guide uses a default slice height of 4000 px, permits 1–16000 px, and requires the slice height minus overlap to be at least 100 px. Its 8000 px example uses 4000 px slices and 500 px overlap, yielding vertical ranges 0–4000, 3500–7500, and 7000–8000. Method 1: Capture and crop in Firefox
- Open the page in Firefox and right-click an empty area. Choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page in the screenshot controls.
- Save the image, then open it in an image editor and crop it into vertical sections. Keep the original file alongside the crops.
- Use consistent crop boundaries and sequential filenames. Add overlap if the image will be read as separate pieces.
Mozilla documents region, automatically detected part, full-page, and visible-area capture modes. This workflow creates the full-page image in Firefox; the division into separate files happens afterward in an image editor. Mozilla’s screenshot instructions cover the browser capture controls.
Method 2: Capture a full page with Playwright
Playwright’s screenshot API can capture the full scrollable page with fullPage: true. This captures one tall image; it does not itself provide a slice array or slice-height and overlap controls. To produce multiple files, add an image-processing step after capture. fullPage cannot be combined with an element target. Playwright’s screenshot documentation describes full-page screenshots and supported options.

Turn the tall image into slices
Use an image-processing library or editor to crop the saved image into vertical ranges. If the image is 8,000 px tall and you choose a 4,000 px height with 500 px overlap, the ranges are 0–4,000, 3,500–7,500, and 7,000–8,000. In a script, advance the next slice’s starting point by sliceHeight - overlap, and stop when the range reaches the image bottom. Validate that overlap is smaller than slice height and that the final crop is not empty.

When the page contains lazy-loaded images, wait for content to load before capturing and inspect the result. A full-page screenshot is only as complete as the page state the browser has rendered.
Method 3: Request slices from ScreenshotOne

Troubleshooting common slicing problems
The capture stops before the bottom
Check whether the page had finished rendering, whether images load only after scrolling, and whether content sits inside a separate scroll container. For an app panel, capture or scroll the panel itself rather than assuming a document-level full-page screenshot includes it.

A heading, row, or control is cut in half
Shift the boundary so the element fits within one slice, or increase overlap so the complete element appears in at least one neighboring section. Avoid using the same fixed boundary blindly on pages with different layouts.
The same header appears in every slice
Sticky and fixed elements can be captured repeatedly during long-page workflows. Inspect the original capture and, if necessary, adjust the capture approach or crop boundaries. Extension histories indicate these are recurring edge cases, not a problem with one specific page.
