You cannot advance time to morning by lying in an ordinary bed or sleeping bag in the standard PC and console versions of ARK: Survival Ascended. Beds and bags are respawn and fast-travel structures. A Tek Sleeping Pod restores vitals and grants slow experience while occupied, but it is not documented as a night-skipping device. If you control a single-player session or server, the reliable way to make darkness shorter is to change the cycle settings, especially NightTimeSpeedScale.

Can you sleep until morning in ARK: Survival Ascended?
No. The standard game has no documented “sleep until dawn” action. Lying down in a bed does not move the world clock, and using a sleeping bag does not make sunrise arrive sooner. Your survivor can remain safe while you wait, but the in-game time continues according to the server’s cycle settings.

A structure can place your survivor in a resting animation, protect an occupied survivor, restore statistics, or create a respawn point without changing the time of day. None of those effects should be treated as a command to skip nighttime.
What each sleeping structure actually does
| Structure | Primary function | Advances the world clock? | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hide Sleeping Bag | One-time spawn point and fast-travel location | No | It is consumed after use and can be used only by its owner. |
| Bed | Reusable respawn point and fast-travel location | No documented time skip | Laying down does not provide a sleep-until-dawn command. |
| Tek Sleeping Pod | Rapid vital recovery, slow experience gain, and protection while occupied | No documented time skip | It needs power for its powered-platform use and still follows the world clock. |
Hide Sleeping Bag
The Hide Sleeping Bag is a disposable utility structure. You place it to establish a temporary spawn point or use it as a fast-travel destination. Once used as intended, it is consumed. It belongs to the survivor who placed it, so another player cannot use it as that player’s personal sleeping location.

Nothing in its documented behavior controls the clock. If you deploy one at night, it remains a spawn and travel tool; it does not turn night into morning.
Beds
A bed is the reusable version of the same general idea: it gives your survivor a persistent respawn point and supports fast travel. You can lie down in it, but the documented bed functions concern respawning and travel rather than time advancement.
Consequently, a bed is still valuable in a night-time base. It lets you recover after a death and move between established locations, but it cannot be used as a conventional “sleep through the night” button.
Tek Sleeping Pod
The Tek Sleeping Pod is the structure most likely to be mistaken for a time-skip mechanic because it explicitly lets a survivor sleep. The official description says: “This Tek-powered Chamber lets you rapidly recover vitals, and slowly gain XP even when sleeping.” Its documented effects include health regeneration, recovery of hunger and thirst, torpor reduction, and protection while occupied.
Those benefits concern your survivor’s condition, not the length of the day. The pod does not document a function that sets the clock to dawn. If you enter it at midnight, you should expect to wake or exit during the same night unless the normal cycle reaches morning.

Why your bed will not pass time
ARK separates character state from world time. A survivor can be lying down, recovering, protected, or unconscious while the server continues running its day-and-night cycle. The bed interaction changes where you can respawn or travel; it does not issue a server-wide time command.
This design also avoids an automatic multiplayer time jump. On a shared server, one player’s decision to lie down would otherwise alter the lighting and visibility for everyone else. Treat beds and pods as personal utility structures and the cycle as a world-level setting.
How to make nighttime shorter
If you play alone, host a non-dedicated session, or administer a private server, change the server’s time settings instead of trying to sleep in a structure. The relevant controls are DayCycleSpeedScale and NightTimeSpeedScale.
What DayCycleSpeedScale controls
DayCycleSpeedScale controls how quickly the complete ARK cycle moves from day to night and back to day. Increasing the cycle speed makes the overall passage of time faster; reducing it makes the full cycle slower.
The official configuration reference lists 1.0 as the default cycle speed and explains that, at that speed, one minute of real time equals approximately 28 minutes of game time. That is an approximate configuration relationship, not a performance guarantee or a statistic about your survivor.

What NightTimeSpeedScale controls
NightTimeSpeedScale specifies the scaling factor for the passage of time during nighttime relative to daytime. A lower value makes night last longer. Increasing the value makes nighttime pass faster, which is the targeted adjustment when darkness is the main problem.
Because the setting changes the world clock, it affects every player and every activity on that server. It does not merely brighten your own screen.
Changing the settings in a session or server you control
- Open the configuration controls for your game. In single-player or a hosted session, use the game’s available world or server settings. On a rented or self-hosted server, open the host’s configuration panel or the administrator configuration files.
- Locate the time settings. Find the entries named
DayCycleSpeedScaleandNightTimeSpeedScale. Host panels may place them under world, gameplay, or server settings. - Choose the setting you actually want to change. Use
NightTimeSpeedScalewhen you want only the dark period to pass more quickly. UseDayCycleSpeedScalewhen you want the entire day-night cycle to run faster. - Save the configuration. A host panel may require a save or apply action. A configuration-file workflow may require the server to be stopped before editing and restarted afterward; follow that host’s documented procedure.
- Restart if the host requires it. Many server settings are read when the world starts. If the value appears unchanged, stop and start the session or server rather than repeatedly editing the same field.
- Test one change at a time. Observe one complete night before making another adjustment. Changing both values at once makes it harder to tell which setting produced the result.
The exact menu labels and restart requirements vary by platform and hosting arrangement. The setting names are the stable part; a particular host may expose them through sliders, text fields, or configuration entries.
Can you change the night length on an official server?
Usually not as an ordinary player. Official servers are administered by the game operator, so individual survivors generally do not receive permission to edit world-cycle values. The configuration documentation identifies what the settings do, but it does not establish the permissions for every hosting arrangement.

If you cannot change the server clock
Wait safely rather than expecting a bed to skip the night
On a server whose settings you cannot edit, the dependable option is to wait for the normal cycle. A bed or Tek Sleeping Pod can make waiting safer in the ways those structures are designed to do, but neither one accelerates sunrise. Secure your character inside a defensible base, keep food and water available, and avoid leaving valuable tames or crafting stations exposed while you wait.
Use brightness or gamma only as a visibility aid
Community players often report increasing gamma or display brightness when they do not want to modify the cycle. This can make terrain and threats easier to see on a dark screen, but it does not shorten the night. It also may not be available, permitted, or equally effective on every platform or server.
Brightness adjustments can introduce their own trade-off: a setting that reveals detail at night may wash out daytime scenes or make colors harder to judge. Treat it as a personal display preference, not a time-control feature.
Plan nighttime activities
Darkness is less disruptive when you reserve indoor jobs for it. Crafting, inventory management, base repairs, breeding checks, and route planning do not require the same visibility as exploration. If you must travel, mark the route during daylight and carry the supplies needed to shelter rather than assuming a bed will end the dark period.

Community references describe mods that attempt to add a Minecraft-style sleep-through-the-night function. Such a mod is a separate feature layered onto the game; it is not evidence that beds or sleeping bags have that behavior in the unmodified version.

Troubleshooting common questions
“Why won’t my bed pass time?”
That is normal behavior in the standard game. The bed is functioning as a respawn and fast-travel structure, not as a clock-control item. Wait for the normal cycle or ask the server owner whether a time-scale change is allowed.
“I used a sleeping bag and nothing happened.”
A Hide Sleeping Bag does not trigger a dawn transition. Confirm that you are using it for its intended one-time spawn or fast-travel function. Remember that it is consumed after use and restricted to its owner.
“The Tek Sleeping Pod says I am sleeping. Why is it still dark?”
The pod’s sleep state refers to recovery, experience gain, torpor reduction, and protection. Those effects do not document a night skip. Leave the pod or remain in it according to your survival needs while the server clock continues.

- Confirm that you edited the active world or server rather than a different saved profile.
- Check the spelling of the setting name, especially the capital letters in
DayCycleSpeedScaleandNightTimeSpeedScale. - Save or apply the configuration using the host’s required control.
- Restart the session if the host reads settings only at startup.
- Make sure you have administrator permission and that another configuration layer is not overriding your value.
- Test the result over a full night; a small change may be difficult to judge from a brief observation.
“Can I make only my own screen brighter?”
A display or gamma adjustment is the closest personal workaround, where the platform and server permit it. It affects visibility rather than world time, so other players still experience the same night duration.
Choosing between the two time-scale settings
Use the narrowest setting that solves the problem:
- Choose
NightTimeSpeedScalewhen daytime already feels right and you want darkness to end sooner. - Choose
DayCycleSpeedScalewhen you want both daylight and nighttime to move through the world faster. - Choose neither when you are on a server where changing the shared clock would disrupt other players or violate its rules.
Any server-clock adjustment is a gameplay rule change. Faster nights can make travel and combat easier, alter the timing of encounters, and change the balance intended by the server owner. Discuss the change with other players before applying it to a shared world.
The practical answer
There is no ordinary sleep-until-dawn interaction in the standard version of ARK: Survival Ascended. Use beds and sleeping bags for respawn and fast travel, and use a Tek Sleeping Pod for recovery and slow experience gain. If you own or administer the world, increase NightTimeSpeedScale to make darkness pass faster, or adjust DayCycleSpeedScale to speed up the entire cycle. Without configuration access, wait out the night, improve personal visibility where allowed, or evaluate a current compatible mod rather than expecting a bed to change the clock.
