Try a Galaxy device already signed in to the account, an unused backup code, or an authenticator app already configured for it. If you have none of those and can no longer use the registered number, request a number change through Samsung’s official recovery flow; Samsung’s US guidance says the process takes two weeks.
These options do not bypass identity checks. Installing an authenticator app now or getting a new SIM will not, by itself, verify that you own the account.

Try the verification methods you already have
At the sign-in verification prompt, use an alternative only if it was previously linked to your Samsung account or is available on a device already signed in. The available choices can vary by account and region.

If another Galaxy phone or tablet is already signed in to the same account, choose the Galaxy-device verification option when it appears and follow the prompt on that device. Samsung identifies this as an alternative to receiving an SMS code. A newly purchased or reset device will not have the same account access.

Enter an unused backup code
If you saved backup codes when setting up two-step verification, choose the backup-code option and enter one that has not been used. Keep any remaining codes private: they are credentials for verifying your account. Samsung says backup codes can be viewed or downloaded in two-step verification settings when you can access the account.
Use an authenticator app already linked to the account
If an authenticator app was configured for your Samsung account and you can still open it, select that verification option and enter the current code it displays. Downloading an authenticator app after losing access does not link it to your account or establish account ownership.

If you no longer have the registered number
When none of the available verification methods works, use Samsung’s official phone-number change flow. At the verification prompt, look for “Need to change your phone number?” or an equivalent option, then follow the identity-verification steps. Do not submit a second request just to check its status: Samsung’s US support guidance says another request resets the two-week waiting period. Samsung says it will notify the account holder when the new number can be used for two-step verification.
The two-week estimate is from Samsung’s US support guidance; it is a service-process duration, not a guaranteed completion date for every account or region. Samsung Canada also describes the process as taking up to two weeks. Follow the instructions shown for your country.

Contact Samsung Support if self-service recovery fails
If the available verification methods and number-change flow do not resolve the problem, contact Samsung Support through the official support channel for your region. Samsung does not promise an immediate override or a particular resolution time in the cited guidance. Recovery depends on Samsung’s account-specific identity checks.
Samsung says two-step verification cannot be disabled. Its Canadian support guide explains that the requirement is intended to protect account information, so there is no supported way to turn it off as a workaround.

Update the number after you regain access
Once signed in, replace or confirm the phone number used for text-message verification in your Samsung Account security settings. Samsung documents routes through both a Galaxy device and a PC browser; the exact labels can vary by country and software version.
On a Galaxy phone or tablet
- Open Settings and select your Samsung account.
- Open the account’s security or password-and-security settings, then choose Two-step verification.
- Edit or add the text-message phone number and complete the verification prompt for the new number.
In a PC browser
- Sign in to the Samsung Account website.
- Open the account’s security settings and choose Two-step verification.
- Edit or add the text-message number and verify it as instructed.
If a label differs on your screen, use the corresponding security or two-step verification setting shown for your account rather than relying on an exact menu name.
