To shuffle gaming videos in a continuous YouTube livestream, use an encoder or automation system that can randomly select your prerecorded files and keep sending them to YouTube Live. YouTube provides the live stream URL and stream key for the encoder connection, but its playlist-loop instructions do not explain how to shuffle an encoder’s source files. Confirm that your chosen system supports random order, automatic next-file playback and the end-of-list behavior you want before relying on it.
How the setup works
Your video files are the source; an encoder or automation system turns them into a continuous feed; YouTube Live receives that feed using the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. The shuffle happens in the source or automation workflow—not through YouTube’s ordinary playlist controls. YouTube describes encoder streaming as a common option for gameplay broadcasts and documents connecting an encoder with a stream URL and key: YouTube encoder streaming overview and Set up your encoder.
YouTube separately explains how to loop a video or playlist for regular viewing, but that guidance does not document using a YouTube playlist as a shuffled input to an encoder. Do not assume that a playlist’s shuffle or loop controls will randomize the files being sent in a live broadcast: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
Choose and verify a source workflow
Select an encoder or automation system that can produce a continuous feed from your prerecorded gaming videos. The YouTube guidance cited here establishes encoder streaming in general, not the shuffle features of any particular application. Check the current documentation for the exact software or service you plan to use.

- Can it choose files in a randomized order, and can it avoid repeating a file until the others have played?
- Does it automatically advance to the next file without interrupting the feed?
- What happens when it reaches the end of the file list: does it reshuffle, repeat in order, stop, or wait?
- Can it play your file formats and preserve the intended video and audio?
- Can it send a continuous feed to YouTube Live, and what does it do after an application or network failure?
- How does it handle transitions and audio between files?
These are capabilities to verify with the tool’s own documentation and a test. YouTube’s cited pages do not validate a specific shuffle tool or provide its file-selection settings.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Create or select the live event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select the event you intend to use. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions: Set up your encoder.
- Copy the connection details. Obtain the stream URL and stream key shown for that event, then enter them in the encoder as its YouTube destination. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential the encoder uses to send the feed. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. See YouTube’s encoder streaming overview.
- Configure the source sequence. Set the files and shuffle, repeat, transition and end-of-list behavior in the encoder or automation tool. Follow that tool’s instructions; YouTube does not supply a universal shuffle setting for local video files.
- Start a test feed and inspect the preview. Use a private or unlisted test event where available. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the event public. YouTube recommends testing and checking the stream before going live: YouTube live streaming tips.
- Start the public event only after the checks pass. Confirm that the preview and audio are right, then start or schedule the event using the current Live Control Room and encoder workflow. Monitor the stream after it begins and end it through that workflow when finished.
Test the shuffle and continuous playback
A successful YouTube preview confirms that a feed is arriving; it does not prove that the file sequence will behave as intended for hours. Test the automation separately and observe a complete cycle if practical.

- Confirm the files play in a randomized order and whether repeats are prevented or allowed.
- Watch what happens at each file boundary: check for black frames, frozen video, abrupt audio changes or a gap in the feed.
- Let the final file finish and verify the configured end-of-list behavior, including whether the system reshuffles and begins again.
- Check that the encoder and YouTube preview remain healthy during the test, and that the event is accessible to the intended audience.
- Test recovery behavior if uninterrupted operation matters. The cited YouTube guidance recommends monitoring stream health but does not establish how a particular tool recovers from a failure.

Settings and YouTube features that are easy to confuse
Encoder quality and bitrate
Choose a reliable bitrate that fits the upload connection, then test the resulting stream in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends a reliable bitrate appropriate to the connection and monitoring stream health; consult its current settings page for the supported settings for your chosen resolution and format: YouTube live streaming tips. A higher setting is not useful if the connection cannot sustain it.

HLS ingestion
If your encoder sends HLS, YouTube’s HLS instructions specify TS segments between 1 and 4 seconds, no byte ranges, HTTPS POST/PUT requests, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. The page lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output. These are ingestion requirements for HLS, not a method for shuffling the source videos: YouTube HLS ingestion instructions.
DVR
Enabling DVR lets viewers pause, rewind and resume during a live event. It does not shuffle or reorder the prerecorded files being sent by the encoder. See YouTube’s encoder streaming overview.

Copyright and channel suitability
Use gaming recordings and other material you have the rights to broadcast. A continuous loop does not change the rights status of the files. Review YouTube’s current rules for copyrighted material and live streaming before broadcasting; this workflow article does not determine whether a particular game recording, soundtrack or other clip is permitted. Also consider whether a repetitive or largely reused stream fits YouTube’s current channel monetization policies—permission to stream material and eligibility for monetization are separate questions.
