In OBS, that usually means adding a browser-source overlay or using an integration that updates native OBS text and image sources. The YouTube live video’s title describes the continuous broadcast; it does not automatically change on screen for each track.
Why the YouTube title does not update with each song
A YouTube live broadcast has metadata such as a title, but that metadata describes the broadcast as a whole. Google for Developers explains that “a liveBroadcast resource corresponds to exactly one YouTube video.” Changing the broadcast title is not the same as placing changing text over the video. Use an overlay in the production output when viewers need to see the song title and artist while watching.

YouTube’s “Music in this video” section is not a substitute for a live, on-screen now-playing display. YouTube Help says this information appears on some videos, and automatic additions are associated with particular cases, including Content ID claims or Audio Library music.

Choose an overlay that can read your music player
First identify the service or player supplying music to the stream. Then check that the overlay or integration explicitly supports that player and the OBS setup you use. A tool listing support for YouTube Music, for example, does not establish that it can read metadata from every other player or playback arrangement.

Browser-source overlay
The OBS Forums resource Music on stream describes a web-based current-song overlay and lists YouTube and YouTube Music among its supported services. Its listing describes theme and CSS customization and says the display hides when music is paused; it reports a last update of September 18, 2025. Treat it as a candidate, and check the current listing and setup instructions before relying on its platform support.
Another documented route is YTMDesktop2. Its documentation describes enabling a local API, configuring an OBS overlay, copying the generated URL, and adding that URL as an OBS Browser Source. It documents full, compact, and text-only layouts. Follow its current documentation for API and authentication settings: YTMDesktop2 documentation.

Native OBS text and image sources
A public GitHub project describes a Python bridge that reads current YouTube Music information and updates native OBS text and image sources, avoiding dependence on a browser source or plugin: project repository. This is a project-specific method, not evidence that every YouTube playback setup exposes compatible metadata. Check the repository’s instructions, platform requirements, and maintenance status before adopting it.

- Identify the playback source. Note the actual service or player supplying the music, such as YouTube Music. Check the selected overlay’s current documentation for support for that exact source.
- Configure the overlay or integration. For a browser overlay, follow its current setup instructions and obtain the overlay URL. For a native-source integration, follow its instructions for connecting to the player and updating OBS sources. Do not assume that a tool can read metadata merely because the music is audible in OBS.
- Add it to the right scene. In OBS, add a Browser Source when the chosen method provides a URL, or add and configure the integration’s native text and image sources. Place the now-playing elements above the video or background in the scene’s source order.
- Make the text readable. Position it where it does not obscure important visuals, and check its contrast against the background. If the overlay offers layout or styling controls, choose a format that suits the scene. Check how the integration handles long titles rather than assuming they will fit.
- Check the outgoing scene before going live. In the OBS production preview, confirm that the title and artist appear and update when the track changes. Also check the pause behavior and any artwork or progress elements you intend to show. A display that looks right in its setup page is not enough; it needs to be visible in the scene sent to YouTube.
- Keep the YouTube broadcast title descriptive of the whole stream. Set it for the continuous live video, not as a per-track display mechanism. The changing song information belongs in the overlay.
Check compatibility and maintenance before relying on it
Overlay support and setup can change as players, OBS, operating systems, and projects are updated. The cited documentation and listings do not establish universal compatibility or hands-on reliability across every combination. Before using an overlay for a long-running broadcast, check its current installation instructions and supported platforms, then verify that metadata updates in your own scene when playback changes.
