To keep a prerecorded property tour playing as a YouTube Live broadcast, send it through an encoder that loops a video or playlist. You can run the encoder on a computer that stays on and connected, or use cloud playout so playback runs remotely. YouTube Live eligibility, stream settings, copyright clearance, and the platform’s 12-hour replay limits all matter when planning an unattended broadcast.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable it before the day of the open house. YouTube live-streaming eligibility
- A prerecorded tour video, or a playlist of videos, and permission to use every visual and audio element in the broadcast.
- An encoder: software on a computer you maintain, or a cloud playout service. YouTube describes an encoder as the software or hardware that converts video into a format it can stream. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- A stable internet connection if you send the feed from a local computer. For unattended operation, the computer, encoder process, and network must remain available.
A regular YouTube video upload is not the same as a continuous live broadcast. To show a prerecorded tour as live, an encoder must send it as a live feed.

Set up a local loop with a software encoder
- Confirm live access. In YouTube Studio, check that your channel can stream. If this is the first live broadcast, allow time for activation, which may take up to 24 hours.
- Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Create > Go live, then create or schedule a stream. Set its title, visibility, and other listing details for the property tour.
- Connect your encoder. In the stream setup, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the stream key like a password: it identifies where the encoder sends the feed and should not be shared publicly.
- Load the tour video or playlist. Configure the encoder to repeat the video or playlist as a live feed. Keep the computer awake, the encoder running, and the network connected for the full broadcast.
- Set and test the output. Use the video’s intended resolution and a bitrate that your upload connection can sustain steadily. YouTube recommends RTMPS for RTMP-capable workflows, constant bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. Check YouTube’s current resolution-specific bitrate guidance and run a private or unlisted test with comparable motion and audio before making the broadcast public. - Check the preview and stream health. Confirm that the picture and sound are correct in YouTube Studio before starting the public broadcast. Watch the stream health status and respond to warnings rather than assuming a loop will run unattended without interruption.

Plan for replays and viewer rewind
YouTube can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours. Streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all, so keep your own recording if you need a dependable copy of the tour. YouTube live-stream archiving
DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began. A 24/7 feed is therefore not a substitute for an on-demand tour video or a separate recording. YouTube DVR settings

Clear rights and property permissions
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content. A match can replace the live video with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate the stream. Having a license does not necessarily prevent a match from disrupting the broadcast: the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Troubleshoot common problems
