To show the currently playing Hindi song and artist on a YouTube radio stream, add a text or browser overlay to the video scene in your encoder, then connect it to the playlist system’s now-playing data or a text file that updates when tracks change. This on-screen label is separate from the stream’s YouTube title and description. Test the overlay with real Devanagari text in the encoder output before broadcasting.
Choose an on-screen overlay for now-playing information
A live song label must be rendered into the video sent to YouTube. You can make one with an encoder scene overlay, such as a text source that reads a changing file or a browser source that displays a custom layout. YouTube broadcast metadata serves a different purpose. A broadcast title or description does not, by itself, create a visible, changing song-and-artist label in the video; YouTube’s Live API documentation describes broadcast and stream resources and their metadata fields, not an automatic on-screen now-playing overlay: YouTube Live Streaming API.

Prepare accurate Hindi track information
Keep the title and artist fields canonical
Use the song title and artist spelling supplied by the rights holder or distributor as the source of truth. For Hindi tracks, preserve the official Devanagari spelling. If you want to help viewers who search in Roman script, include a consistent transliteration as a separate line or field rather than replacing the Hindi title. This is a practical metadata choice, not a YouTube-prescribed Hindi standard.

Check the fields before connecting them
- Confirm which playlist or playback-system fields contain the current track title and artist.
- Decide how to display collaborations, featured artists, and instrumental tracks so the label remains consistent.
- Check punctuation, spacing, and capitalization against the rights-holder or distributor metadata.
- Test a short title and a long title, including examples with Devanagari conjunct letters and vowel marks.
Build and test the overlay in OBS
OBS’s documented text-source workflow can display text from a file. Your playback or automation system needs to update that file with the current track information; the exact integration depends on the player and station setup. A browser source is another option for a custom layout, but it likewise needs a source for the changing title and artist data.
- Add a text source: In the OBS scene used for the radio stream, add a Text source. In its properties, enable Read from file and select the text file your workflow will update. Set the font, color, alignment, and size in the source properties. OBS’s current documentation is at Text Sources.
- Connect the now-playing update: Configure your station’s player or playlist automation to write the current title and artist to the selected file whenever the track changes. OBS documents reading a file; the specific playlist-to-file connection is player-dependent and should be tested in your own setup.
- Choose a Devanagari-capable font on the streaming machine: Select a font installed on that computer, then preview actual titles and artist names. Check conjuncts, vowel marks, line breaks, and any Latin-script transliteration. OBS exposes font controls, but its documentation does not certify particular fonts or guarantee Devanagari shaping across operating systems.
- Position and size the label: Place it in an uncluttered area of the scene. Keep the line length manageable, use strong contrast, and view the output at the smallest size your audience is likely to use, including a phone-sized preview.
- Verify track changes: Play or simulate several tracks and confirm that the title and artist change together, the old label does not linger, and long names remain readable. Check the encoder’s output rather than relying only on the scene editor.
- Rehearse privately: Use YouTube’s preview or monitor feed, or make a private or unlisted rehearsal, before the public stream. Google’s broadcast lifecycle guidance describes testing before going live: YouTube broadcast lifecycle. YouTube for Artists notes that an encoder gives creators more customization and control than a simple mobile or webcam stream: YouTube for Artists.
When a browser source is the better fit
Use a browser source if your layout needs more design control than a basic text label provides. Build or configure a page that can receive the current title and artist from your station workflow, then add that page as an OBS browser source and check it in the stream output. The right integration depends on your player and automation; no specific playlist plugin or vendor is established here. OBS documents browser sources at Browser Source.

Keep music rights separate from on-screen credits
A visible artist credit does not grant permission to stream a recording. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast: Copyright issues with live streams. A match can lead to placeholder imagery, interruption, or termination.

YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream: Going Live for Music Channels. YouTube also says that even a licensed stream can be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to the Content ID allowlist. A purchase, credit line, or on-screen overlay should not be treated as a substitute for clearance.
