What price should viewers see?
Where GST applies to a consumer sale, the advertised customer-facing price should generally include GST. The Australian Taxation Office notes that the exact Australian Consumer Law requirements depend on the facts of the supply. The ACCC advises businesses to state the total price and assess its prominence in context. Medium, size, placement, colour and font can all matter. - Confirm the current customer price and tax treatment. Check the merchant’s current price data and whether GST applies to this specific product and transaction.
- Make one clear on-screen price card or lower-third. Show the total customer price, including GST where applicable. Use contrast and placement that keep it legible over the product footage.
- Say the total aloud. Make clear that the displayed amount includes GST, where it does.
- Match every other price reference. Use the same amount in any pinned chat message, description and product listing. Leave the graphic visible long enough for viewers, including those watching on small screens, to read it.
- Check the price again shortly before the stream. If the merchant changes the price, update the graphic and other references before presenting the product.
These presentation choices apply the ACCC’s total-price and prominence guidance; the cited guidance does not prescribe a YouTube overlay template, minimum font size or display duration.

Calculate the GST component only when the supply is fully taxable
For a standard fully taxable supply, GST is 10/11 of the GST-inclusive amount—not 10% of that inclusive amount. For example, a $22 inclusive price comprises $20 before GST and $2 GST. Section 9-75 of the A New Tax System (Goods and Services Tax) Act 1999 sets out the calculation and includes an example of a $22,000 taxable sale containing $2,000 GST. GST Act, section 9-75.
Do not apply the 10/11 calculation automatically to GST-free or input-taxed supplies, or where special calculation rules apply. Verify the treatment for the particular sale; this general example is not a determination of a product’s tax status.

Use YouTube Shopping tags as a supplement, not the only price display
Eligible creators can tag products featured in a livestream and may pin a product. Availability depends on YouTube Shopping eligibility, geography and product availability; products must be available for delivery in the viewer’s location. Prepare and review tags before going live. YouTube says some changes made during a livestream may not appear for existing viewers; its desktop guidance recommends completing rearrangement or removal at least 30 minutes before the stream. Keep the price visible in the video so the presentation does not depend on every viewer seeing a tag or shopping panel.

YouTube Shopping can take a buyer to a retailer or marketplace. The retailer or marketplace determines the final price and applicable fees and taxes, so check that the live amount and the retailer’s customer-facing price agree. Show discounts and promotions with their conditions
If a product is discounted, distinguish its ordinary customer price from the promotional price and state the conditions clearly. YouTube documents sales-price annotations, merchant promotions and price-drop badges for tagged products. These features have platform and retailer eligibility requirements; the documentation identifies Shopify and Google Merchant Center as ways to manage certain promotions. - The spoken amount, graphic, pinned chat or description, and product listing agree.
