Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo show different prerecorded videos continuously on YouTube Live, put the videos into a looping playlist or schedule using a local encoder, a cloud streaming service, or suitable dedicated hardware. Then send that feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. For an unattended stream, choose a setup that explicitly supports playlist playback, scheduling, and recovery; a generic encoder alone may not provide those features.
Choose where the stream will run
The playback and encoding can happen on a computer you operate, in a cloud service, or on dedicated hardware. The right choice depends on whether you need hands-on control, whether a computer can stay on, and what playlist and recovery features your chosen setup actually provides.
Local software on a computer
YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source recording and live-streaming software. A local setup can be an economical choice if you already have a suitable computer, but the computer and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. You also need a playback workflow that can rotate your files and resume or recover unattended. YouTube’s encoder guide does not establish that a stock OBS installation automatically loops a video library indefinitely, so verify the playlist, looping, restart, and recovery behavior of your specific workflow before depending on it. A mini PC is one possible always-on host, but no particular model or minimum specification is guaranteed to handle every workflow.
Cloud service
A cloud service can play and send the feed without keeping your home computer on. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streams; check its current features, supported formats, terms, and plan limits directly before choosing it.

Dedicated hardware
YouTube documents the AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream function for scheduling prerecorded media and streaming it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. It is a more specialized equipment route than a basic software setup, so confirm that its current capabilities and cost fit your needs.
Prepare your channel and video library
Check live-stream eligibility early
Your channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live streaming can take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable it well before the planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and its encoder setup guide.

Confirm playback and rights
Arrange your videos in the order you want viewers to see them, and verify that the chosen encoder, service, or device supports the file formats and playlist or scheduling behavior you need. Check that audio is present and levels are usable. Clear the rights for every video and music track in the rotation, including material licensed from third parties; permission to use a work does not necessarily prevent an automated live-stream interruption.
Connect the playlist to YouTube Live
- Choose and test a playback method. Select local software, a cloud service, or dedicated hardware. Confirm its exact playlist, scheduling, looping, and restart controls rather than assuming that all encoders rotate files automatically.
- Create or schedule the stream. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create a live stream or schedule an event. YouTube’s stream-management settings include controls such as stream keys and URLs, latency, DVR, and auto-start or auto-stop.
- Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. The URL is the destination for the feed; the key authorizes YouTube to accept it. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream. A custom stream key can be reused.
- Set the outgoing connection and encoding. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection, constant bitrate, H.264 for standard live encoding, and a two-second keyframe frequency. Available settings depend on the protocol and encoder. Check the current YouTube encoder settings guidance and the documentation for your chosen playback system before setting resolution and bitrate.
- Send a test feed and inspect it in Live Control Room. Use an unlisted or otherwise appropriate test stream, confirm that the preview appears, and check picture, sound, playlist order, and transitions before going public.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. For a scheduled event, YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. Check that the stream is accessible and monitor audio and video quality. These are preparation recommendations, not a promise that any setup will remain online indefinitely.
Protect the stream from rights interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the content remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also says that a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist even when you have a license. Its copyright guidance for live streams explains the scanning and allowlisting issue.

YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for live content on Google services, including music rights, and to meet applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Keep records of permissions and confirm any required Content ID allowlisting before putting licensed material into a continuous rotation.
Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, recent live-stream restrictions, and whether live streaming has finished enabling. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that the encoder uses the correct stream URL and key, is configured for the selected protocol, and is actively sending. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- The preview is missing or the stream is unstable: Confirm the encoder’s network connection and current YouTube-compatible encoding settings, then test again and inspect the preview before going public.
- The same video repeats or playback stops: Check playlist order, loop and scheduling settings, supported file formats, and the encoder’s restart behavior. A generic encoder may not supply library rotation by itself.
- The live feed is replaced or interrupted: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and identify any matched video or music. Confirm the rights and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting where applicable; do not assume a license alone prevents automated interruption.
- The broadcast stops while unattended: Determine whether the failure was in local playback, the network, the encoder, or YouTube ingestion. Use an implementation with recovery or failover controls where available, and test those controls before relying on them.
