Put the schedule in the video scene your encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube Studio schedules and manages the broadcast, but the schedule graphic must be part of the encoder’s audio-video composition.
Where the schedule graphic belongs
A YouTube livestream has two separate production parts: YouTube Studio manages the broadcast event, while the encoder sends the audio and video viewers see. Add the radio schedule to the encoder’s scene or output—not to the scheduled-event settings in YouTube Studio. Google’s documentation distinguishes a broadcast event from the stream carrying its audio-video: YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

You can use a software or hardware encoder; a physical purchase is not required just to add a schedule overlay. YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose a format viewers can read

For most radio livestreams, give the current programme and its time the strongest emphasis, with upcoming shows secondary. Keep station identity visible and avoid covering the main listening visual. These are design choices, not YouTube requirements.

Add the schedule to your encoder scene
- Prepare accurate schedule content. Include programme names and times, and state the time zone if viewers may be in different regions. Verify the current lineup before going live.
- Create the graphic. Use text or an image for a schedule that rarely changes. If the lineup changes often, consider a web-rendered or externally updated source, provided your encoder supports it.
- Add it to the video composition. In your encoder, add the text or graphic as a source in the scene being sent to YouTube. Position and size it in the scene preview so it is readable without obscuring important branding or visuals.
- Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room, select Manage, and schedule the stream. YouTube says scheduled streams can be promoted and viewers can receive reminders.
- Connect and start the encoder. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and stream key in the encoder, or select YouTube as the service if the encoder offers that connection. Start sending the stream and wait for its preview in Live Control Room.
- Inspect the viewer-facing preview, then go live. Check legibility, contrast, cropping, and placement. If the schedule changes during the broadcast, test that transition before announcing the stream. When the preview is ready, go live in Live Control Room.
YouTube notes that enabling a channel for its first livestream may take up to 24 hours. Allow for that setup time rather than planning a first broadcast at the last minute; see YouTube’s encoder instructions.
Using OBS for the overlay
OBS is one software option for streaming to YouTube. Its YouTube guide covers choosing YouTube as the service and working with scheduled broadcasts: How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio. For the schedule itself, add a text or graphic source to the scene, position and size it in the preview, and test the rendered scene before streaming. OBS menus and source behavior can change, so consult the current OBS guidance for exact controls.
