To show a song title and artist on a YouTube podcast livestream, add an overlay as an OBS Browser Source if it can receive current track metadata. If it cannot, use an OBS text source and update the details yourself. Test the display and audio before going live. A track credit is not permission to use the music: YouTube may interrupt a live stream that matches third-party content.
Choose how the track information will appear
A now-playing display is an on-screen graphic in your stream scene. OBS can place either a web page or built-in text and image sources over your video. Which method works depends on whether the music player and overlay can pass track metadata to each other; OBS’s documentation explains its sources, but does not verify any particular provider or music-player integration.

| Method | How updates work | What it depends on | Fallback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser Source overlay | Automatic only if the overlay provider receives current track metadata from your music setup | An overlay URL and a working provider-to-player metadata connection | Keep a text source ready to edit manually if the feed stops |
| OBS text source, optionally with an image | You edit the title and artist when the track changes | Your OBS scene and manual updates | The text itself is the fallback |
See OBS’s Browser Source guide and Sources guide for the source types and their controls.

Add the track display in OBS
For a Browser Source overlay
- Get the overlay URL from the provider and confirm that it can read metadata from the player or audio setup you plan to use. Do not assume an overlay updates automatically just because it loads in OBS.
- In the OBS scene where the podcast appears, add a Browser Source. Enter the overlay URL and set its width and height to fit the intended area of your canvas.
- Position and resize the source so it does not cover faces, captions, or other essential visuals. OBS’s source order controls what appears on top, so place the overlay above the background and below anything that should cover it.
- If the provider’s feed is unreliable or unavailable, add a text source as a manually editable backup.
For a manually updated track list
- In the relevant scene, add a text source and enter the current track title and artist. Add an image source only if you want a separate visual element, such as artwork you have permission to display.
- Style and position the text for readability at the size viewers will see. Keep it clear of faces, captions, and other important on-screen information.
- When the track changes, update the text yourself. If the show uses a sequence of tracks, decide who is responsible for making each update so the display does not become stale.
OBS’s Sources guide covers adding and arranging scene sources.

Check the overlay, audio, and stream before the show
- Confirm in OBS that the intended microphone and program audio are reaching the broadcast. OBS’s Quick Start Guide covers initial audio-device and stream setup.
- Check that the overlay loads, if you use one, and that the title and artist change when the music changes. A page that renders successfully may still lack a working metadata feed.
- Review the display on the actual scene and canvas: make sure the text is legible and not obscured by other sources.
- Run a test before the live show. Confirm that audio and the track display behave as expected, including after changing tracks. OBS recommends testing settings before a first stream; these checks are practical precautions, not a report of a tested overlay.
Track credits do not clear music rights
Displaying a title and artist is attribution, not a music license. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A match can lead to a warning, a placeholder replacing the stream, interruption, or termination. YouTube also says, “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the third-party content.” Read YouTube Help’s copyright guidance for live streams.
- Confirm that your permission covers the recordings and compositions used in the livestream, not just the on-screen credit.
- Check whether the permission also covers an archived replay.
- For licensed third-party music, coordinate with the rights holder or distributor about channel allowlisting where applicable. YouTube for Artists recommends this coordination for creators using copyright-protected music; see its Going Live for Music Channels guidance.
- If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, YouTube for Artists says to enable it and verify the account at least 24 hours ahead. Check your current channel-specific eligibility and instructions in YouTube Studio.
Spotify for Creators has separate guidance about rights for publishing podcasts on Spotify; it is not a YouTube livestream rule. See Spotify for Creators’ copyright guidance if you also publish there.
