To shop from a screenshot on Android, open the image in Google Photos, tap More → Google Lens, select the product, and review Lens’s similar-product results. You can also open Lens from the Google app or Chrome, upload the screenshot from your device, and narrow the selection to the item you want. Lens can show related products and possible places to buy them, but it does not guarantee an exact match, current stock, a particular price, or a reliable seller.
What Google Lens can—and cannot—do with a screenshot
Lens analyzes the visual content of an image and returns related web pages, images, and, for supported shopping markets, product results and merchants. A screenshot works like any other saved image: Lens does not need the original product page or a live camera view.

The result is visual discovery rather than a verified product lookup. A visually similar shirt may differ in fabric, color, sizing, or model year; a piece of furniture may have a different finish or dimensions. Treat every result as a lead. Confirm the item’s specifications, seller identity, delivery terms, return policy, and stock on the merchant’s own page before paying.

Before you start
- An Android phone or tablet: The Google Photos method is the clearest general-purpose route for a saved screenshot.
- A saved image: Keep the screenshot in Google Photos or in the device’s Screenshots/images folder.
- Current Google software: Google’s Android image-search instructions call for the latest version of the Google app when using that route. Menu names can vary by Android version, app version, and device.
- Internet access: Lens needs to send the image for visual search and load result pages.
- A clear view of the item: A larger, well-lit product area generally gives Lens more useful visual information. Google’s region-selection guidance recommends a clear image and lets you refine the selected area.
You do not need a particular phone model. Google documents Lens access through Google Photos, Google Assistant on most Android phones, and the Google app on some Android phones, including examples such as Pixel devices.
Which Lens route should you use?
For most saved screenshots, start with Google Photos. It gives you a direct path from the image to More → Google Lens and does not depend on a particular Search-bar design. Use the Google app when the screenshot is stored in the device picker and you want to upload it directly. Chrome is another option when Lens appears in Google Search. Google also documents Lens access through Google Assistant on most Android phones, although the available controls and labels vary by device and software version.
These routes search the same kind of visual information, but their menus are not guaranteed to look identical. If one route lacks a Lens icon or an upload button, switching to Photos or the Google app is usually simpler than trying to reproduce a missing menu.
Method 1: Use Google Photos (the most consistent screenshot workflow)
- Find the screenshot. Open Google Photos and locate the image. Check the Screenshots album if it is not visible in the main photo grid.
- Open the image. Tap the screenshot so it fills the screen. You do not need to crop it first; Lens provides a selection tool afterward.
- Launch Lens. Tap More (usually the three-dot menu), then tap Google Lens. The exact placement of the menu can change with the Photos app version.
- Frame the product. Lens will outline or highlight a region. Drag the handles so they cover only the product you want to find. Exclude browser controls, captions, chat bubbles, watermarks, and unrelated objects.
- Review results. Scroll through visually related products and pages. Open a result to inspect the listing rather than assuming the thumbnail is the same item.
- Refine the search. Add a descriptive word when available—for example, the visible brand, “black ceramic lamp,” or “linen overshirt.” A narrower selection and a useful keyword can remove unrelated visual matches.
Google’s documented Photos path is More → Google Lens after selecting an image. If that option is missing, update Google Photos, reopen the image, and check the More menu again. You can also use the Google app route below rather than relying on a particular Photos layout.
Method 2: Upload the screenshot in the Google app
- Open the Google app and tap the Lens icon in the search bar.
- Choose the existing-image or gallery option instead of taking a new photograph.
- Select the screenshot from the device’s Screenshots or images folder.
- Adjust the selection box to cover the product, then swipe through the visual results.
- Use a text refinement such as the item type, visible color, or brand if the matches are too broad.
Google’s Android image-search instructions identify the Google app and Chrome as routes for searching with an image saved on the device. The labels and icon location can differ across releases, so look for the Lens logo or an option to upload an existing image. The Google app route is especially useful when the screenshot is visible in local device storage but is not appearing in the Photos grid.
Method 3: Use Lens through Chrome
- Open Chrome and go to Google Search.
- Tap the Lens icon in the search field, if it appears on your device and account.
- Choose the option to upload an image, then select the screenshot from your device.
- Crop the selection to the product and inspect the resulting visual matches.
Chrome’s availability and labels are not identical on every Android installation. If the Lens icon is not shown, the Google Photos method avoids relying on that particular Search-bar layout. Google’s image-search instructions are available at Search with an image on Google for Android.
How to select the right part of a screenshot
Selection is often the difference between a useful product search and a page of irrelevant results. A screenshot can contain several products, a social-media interface, comments, or a full web page. Lens may consider all of that unless you narrow the region.
For one product
Keep the selection tight enough to exclude surrounding objects but wide enough to include the complete silhouette. For shoes, include both shoes if the pair is visible; for a chair, include the legs and back rather than only the upholstery.

For a product in a collage
Select one tile at a time. Searching a collage as one image can blend the visual characteristics of multiple items and produce broad or contradictory results.
For screenshots with text overlays
Exclude captions, app buttons, and notification banners where possible. If the only view is small or heavily compressed, try the original image or a higher-resolution screenshot. Google’s region-selection help explains that selecting a smaller area can produce more specific results: Lens region selection on Android.
For a difficult or partially hidden item
Start with the clearest visible portion, then try a second search with a slightly wider crop. Compare whether the same design details recur. Do not infer an exact model merely because several results look alike.
Recommended Free Tools
For a screenshot with several possible targets
Run separate searches instead of trying to identify everything at once. A bag, jacket, and pair of shoes in one social post can each produce different visual signals. Save or note the useful result for each crop so you can compare the listings later without confusing one item with another.
What to do when Lens returns results
Results can include visually related images, web pages, similar apparel or home-goods products, and possible places to buy them. Start with the products that repeat the most distinctive features from the screenshot, not necessarily the first thumbnail. A brand name, visible logo, color, or item type can make a broad visual search more focused.
Open the underlying page for every promising result. A search card may show a product photograph while the linked page represents another color, a related model, or a replacement part. Check the page’s title, photographs, variant selector, and specification text before treating it as a candidate.
If the first search is unhelpful, change one variable at a time: select a smaller region, try the complete silhouette, or add a descriptive keyword. Repeating the same broad crop usually repeats the same ambiguity. A second crop is useful for checking whether a distinctive logo, sole, handle, seam, or pattern produces a more specific set of matches.
How to turn visual matches into a safe purchase
1. Separate visual similarity from product identity
Look for details that can distinguish a genuine match: logo placement, seam pattern, hardware shape, sole design, dimensions, finish, and model or reference number. A result that shares only the color and general shape is a discovery lead, not proof of identity.
2. Check the listing itself
On the merchant page, verify the exact title, variant, size, material, dimensions, included accessories, and photographs. Make sure the page describes the item shown rather than a related color or replacement part.

3. Check the seller and terms
Review the seller name, shipping destination, delivery estimate, taxes or import charges, payment method, return window, warranty, and cancellation conditions. A Lens result can surface a page without establishing that the seller is trustworthy or that the listing remains active.
4. Compare more than one option
Use a consistent set of checks when two results look similar:
| Comparison point | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Visual similarity | Shape, pattern, color, construction, and distinctive details match the screenshot. |
| Brand and model | The listing names the same brand or model, or clearly identifies itself as an alternative. |
| Item details | Material, dimensions, size, finish, and included parts fit what is visible. |
| Seller | The merchant identity, contact information, and reputation are clear on the listing. |
| Availability | The selected variant is actually in stock and can be delivered to your location. |
| Purchase terms | Total cost, shipping, taxes, returns, warranty, and delivery timing are acceptable. |
Lens provides product discovery; it does not rank sellers or verify these commercial details for you. Prices, stock, shipping charges, and delivery dates belong to the merchant page and can change after a result is indexed.
Where Lens shopping results are available
Google’s documented list of countries with Lens Shopping results includes:
- Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, and Denmark
- France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, and the Netherlands
- New Zealand, Norway, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, and South Korea
- Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States
This is a coverage list, not a guarantee that every account, query, merchant, or product will show shopping cards. Google can change supported markets, and results can vary by location. If shopping cards do not appear, continue with the general visual results and use the product description or brand as a normal web-search query.
Why results may not be exact
- Different products share the same design language. Lens may match a style, color, or silhouette rather than one manufacturer’s item.
- The screenshot may be compressed. Messaging apps and social platforms can remove fine details that distinguish models.
- The item may be customized or discontinued. Current listings can resemble an older or modified product without being the same version.
- Several objects may be visible. Without a tight region, Lens can combine visual signals from the background.
- Listings change. A result page can disappear, sell out, change price, or redirect to another variant.
- Shopping coverage differs by location. A product card shown in one country may not appear for an account or query in another supported or unsupported market.
For these reasons, avoid describing a Lens result as an “exact match,” “verified listing,” or endorsement unless you independently establish those facts from the merchant and product documentation.

| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Google Lens is not shown in Photos | Update Google Photos, reopen the image, and check the More menu. If it remains unavailable, open Lens from the Google app and upload the screenshot. |
| The wrong object is recognized | Drag the selection handles around only the desired product. Remove interface elements and nearby objects. |
| Results are too broad | Use a smaller region, choose a clearer crop, and add a keyword for the item type, visible brand, or color. |
| No shopping cards appear | Shopping coverage is not universal. Check whether your country is on Google’s documented list, then use ordinary visual results and merchant searches. |
| The image cannot be selected | Confirm that the screenshot is saved locally in Photos or the device’s images folder. Try the Google app’s upload picker instead of a share-sheet shortcut. |
| A promising result is unavailable | Open another result and compare model details. Lens can show related products, while stock and delivery depend on the merchant and your location. |
| Lens keeps returning the background | Crop out faces, furniture, packaging, or text surrounding the item, then run the search again with a tighter selection. |
| The screenshot is too blurry | Use the clearest saved version, select the most recognizable area, and try a slightly wider crop if important details are cut off. |
| The interface looks different | Look for the Lens logo, an existing-image upload option, or the More → Google Lens action rather than relying on an exact icon position. Google changes labels across app and Android versions. |
Privacy and Lens activity controls
Google says Lens activity can be reviewed or deleted in My Activity. The Web & App Activity setting controls whether Lens activity is saved. Google separately identifies Include Visual Search History, which controls saving images used with Lens; Google says this setting is off by default.
To review the available controls, open your Google Account’s activity settings and inspect both Web & App Activity and the Visual Search History option. The labels and account pages can change, so read the current explanation beside each switch. Deleting saved activity does not change a merchant’s own records if you later visit or purchase from that merchant.

Frequently asked questions
Can Google Lens identify the exact product in my screenshot?
Not reliably. Google describes Lens as finding similar products and places to buy them. Use repeated design details, brand information, model numbers, and the merchant’s specifications to verify a candidate yourself.
Do I need the original image instead of a screenshot?
No. A saved screenshot can be uploaded like another device image. A clearer, larger, well-lit product area generally gives Lens more useful visual information, so use the original image when the screenshot is compressed or tiny.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

A screenshot can include several objects, captions, buttons, or a full page. Selecting only the product removes unrelated visual signals, and Google says a smaller selected area can produce more specific results.
Can I shop from a screenshot if I do not see shopping cards?
Yes, you can still inspect ordinary visual results and search the visible brand or item description. Shopping cards are documented only in specified countries and are not guaranteed for every account, product, or query.
Does Lens guarantee that the seller is legitimate?
No. Lens surfaces possible pages and merchants; it does not verify seller reliability, stock, price, delivery, returns, or warranty. Check those terms on the merchant’s own page before paying.
Which Android app is best for this task?
Google Photos is the clearest general-purpose route for a saved screenshot. The Google app and Chrome can upload an existing image, and Google documents Lens access through Assistant on most Android phones. The best choice is the route that exposes your saved image and a region-selection control.

What should I do if the result is close but not identical?
Search again with a tighter crop focused on a logo, pattern, handle, sole, or other distinctive detail. Add the visible brand, color, or item type, then compare several listings. If the details still differ, treat the result as an alternative rather than the original.
Can I delete images or Lens searches from my account?
Google says Lens activity can be reviewed or deleted in My Activity. Web & App Activity controls whether Lens activity is saved, while Include Visual Search History separately controls saving images used with Lens and is off by default according to Google.

The bottom line for shopping from an Android screenshot
Google Photos provides the simplest path: select the screenshot, tap More → Google Lens, and isolate the product. The Google app and Chrome provide upload alternatives. Tight region selection and a descriptive keyword usually make visual results more useful, while careful checking of model details and purchase terms protects you from treating an approximate match as the item itself. Shopping cards depend on Google’s supported markets, and neither availability nor seller quality is guaranteed by Lens.
