The practical answer: use the Warband Bank at a banker to move eligible items and gold between characters on the same Battle.net account and in the same region. Do not treat every form of Warband sharing as a transfer, however. Warband reputations, achievements, and collections can update automatically, while item binding, class restrictions, excluded reputations, and character-specific rewards still apply.

Blizzard’s Warband design covers characters across realms and factions within one regional Battle.net account, and its feature overview also describes coverage across subscriptions in that region. Your characters therefore do not need to share a realm or faction for the Warband systems to work. The rules below describe the design Blizzard documented in 2024; capacities, tooltips, and exceptions can change with later patches, so use the current in-game tooltip or an official patch note when a transfer is important.

What a Warband actually shares

A Warband is an account-level group of your World of Warcraft characters in one region. It is broader than a guild bank and different from sending mail between characters. Blizzard describes it as encompassing characters on the same Battle.net account, together with the items, collections, and progression they share. Characters can be on different realms and factions in that region.

That single definition covers several different mechanisms:

  • Storage and transfer: the Warband Bank holds eligible items and allows manual gold deposits and withdrawals.
  • Transferable gear: Warbound until Equipped items can move between Warband characters until someone equips them.
  • Shared progression: reputations converted to Warband status, along with account-wide systems such as achievements, use shared progress rather than moving an object.
  • Shared collections: most appearances can be collected by any Warband character, although using an appearance still depends on the normal usability rules.

These distinctions matter. Putting an item in shared storage does not make a soulbound item transferable, and seeing a reputation level on one alt does not mean every reward has been mailed to every character.

How to move gold between alts

Use a banker and the Warband Bank

  1. Log in to the character that currently holds the gold.
  2. Travel to an in-game banker and interact with the banker interface.
  3. Open the Warband Bank rather than that character’s individual bank.
  4. Use the bank’s gold controls to deposit the amount you want available to the Warband.
  5. Log in to the destination character, visit a banker, open the same Warband Bank, and withdraw the amount needed.

This is an in-game account transfer: you are manually depositing and withdrawing shared gold, not mailing currency to a named recipient. The destination character must belong to the same regional Warband. Blizzard’s description does not establish a separate cross-region transfer, so characters on another region should not be assumed to share this balance.

What the gold process does not do

  • It does not combine the personal banks of your characters. Each character still has an individual bank, while the Warband Bank is a separate storage area.
  • It does not make a character’s other property account-wide. The shared balance is available through the Warband Bank interface; it is not evidence that every currency or item follows the same rule.
  • It does not bypass account or region boundaries. A character outside the Battle.net account or region is not part of this Warband.

If the balance is not visible, check that you opened the Warband Bank at a banker, selected a character on the same regional Battle.net account, and completed the deposit on the source character. Do not repeatedly move money while troubleshooting; first confirm which character is logged in and which bank panel is open.

How to move items and crafting materials

Deposit an eligible item

  1. On the source character, visit a banker and open the Warband Bank.
  2. Drag an eligible item from your bags or personal bank into a Warband Bank slot.
  3. Log in to another character in the same regional Warband.
  4. Open the Warband Bank at a banker and withdraw the item to that character’s bags or personal bank.

Blizzard’s preview states that non-soulbound items can be deposited in the Warband Bank. That is the governing eligibility check: an item that is soulbound to a character should not be treated as transferable merely because it is useful to another alt. Read the current item tooltip before planning a move, because item-specific binding and later patch rules can affect what the interface accepts.

Use reagents without withdrawing them

The Warband Bank can supply reagents for crafting without first withdrawing those materials. This is useful when one character stores materials and another performs the craft: leave the reagent in shared storage, open the crafting interface on the crafter, and let the game draw from the Warband Bank when the current interface supports that material. If a recipe does not recognize a stored reagent, check the current tooltip and bank permissions, then withdraw the material manually.

Storage capacity documented at launch

Blizzard’s April 17, 2024 Warbands overview described up to five Warband Bank tabs, with 98 inventory slots in each tab. The overview also said tabs are purchased for increasing amounts of gold. Those are launch-era capacity figures, not a promise that the October 2026 game has identical pricing or slot counts. Confirm the number of tabs, slot capacity, and purchase costs in the current bank interface before reorganizing a large inventory.

Gear: what “Warbound until Equipped” means

Warband sharing does not make all gear freely movable. Blizzard introduced Warbound until Equipped as a binding state for some equipment that can be passed among Warband characters before a character equips it.

The safe transfer sequence

  1. Inspect the item’s current tooltip and confirm that it is marked Warbound until Equipped.
  2. Keep it un-equipped on the source character.
  3. Deposit it in the Warband Bank if the interface accepts it, or use the transfer method shown by the current tooltip.
  4. Withdraw it on the intended alt.
  5. Equip it only after deciding which character should keep it permanently.

Equipping the item is the important boundary. Once the character equips an item and its binding state changes, do not assume it can return to the Warband. Normal soulbound gear and gear already bound to a character are not covered by the Warbound until Equipped rule.

Bonus gear and class use

Blizzard’s preview describes bonus gear as occasionally available at a tier below gear from its source and says it may be usable by any class. “May” is significant: this is a description of a type of bonus gear, not a guarantee that every drop is transferable, equal to the source item, or appropriate for every character. Check the item’s own binding and class-use text before placing it in shared storage.

If an item cannot be deposited, the likely explanation is its binding state or another item-specific restriction, not a failed gold or bank transfer. Do not use a third-party service to bypass binding; the Warband Bank only works within the rules exposed by the game client.

Warband Bank versus automatic account-wide progress

Mechanism What is shared Player action Main boundary
Warband Bank Eligible non-soulbound items and a manually managed gold balance Deposit on one character; withdraw on another at a banker Separate from each character’s personal bank; item eligibility applies
Warbound until Equipped Some gear before it is equipped Keep the item unequipped while moving it to the intended alt Not all loot qualifies; equipped or character-bound gear is not automatically movable
Warband reputation Progress for reputations converted to Warband status Play on any participating character; progress is reflected across the Warband Some reputations are excluded and rewards can remain character-specific
Achievements and collections Account-wide systems identified by Blizzard at Warband launch Earn or collect through eligible characters The launch announcement is not a complete list of every exception
Appearance collection Most appearances collected by a Warband character Collect the appearance according to the game’s collection rules Class-specific appearances remain an exception; collecting is not the same as using

What reputation sharing does—and does not—mean

Progress uses the highest character value

For reputations converted to Warband status, progress made by one character is shared with the others. The displayed level reflects the furthest progress any character has reached; it does not add every alt’s progress together. Blizzard’s example is straightforward: if one character is at Renown 5 and another is at Renown 10, the Warband displays Renown 10, not Renown 15.

This lets you choose the most efficient character for future reputation activity without maintaining separate totals for the same converted reputation. It also means that playing a second character does not produce a second independent bar that stacks on top of the first.

Rewards can still be character-specific

Shared progress and shared rewards are separate decisions. Blizzard says Warband-wide rewards are granted once, while some rewards still need to be collected on each character. A reputation can therefore show the same Warband level everywhere while a particular item, quest completion, or character-use reward remains available only to the character that earned or collected it.

Some reputations are excluded from conversion. If two characters show different progress for a reputation, first verify whether that reputation is one of the current Warband-converted reputations. Do not infer account-wide treatment from the word “reputation” alone.

Achievements and other shared progress

Blizzard’s July 11, 2024 launch announcement identified shared Renown, achievements, and collections among the account-wide systems introduced with Warbands. Those categories establish the purpose of the feature, but the announcement is not a promise that every achievement, quest flag, currency, or reward behaves identically.

When an interface looks different on an alt, separate the underlying progress from the reward claim. A completed achievement may be visible account-wide even when a reward must be claimed by a particular character. Likewise, a collection entry can be shared while the character’s ability to use the collected item remains restricted.

Transmog appearances: collection is not equip permission

Collecting an appearance

Blizzard says most appearances can be collected by any Warband character regardless of whether that character can equip the item. This is the collection rule: the appearance can enter the account-wide wardrobe even when the character who obtains it is not the class that would normally wear the original item.

Using an appearance

Unlocking an appearance does not rewrite the rules for using it. Class-specific appearances remain an exception to the broad collection rule, and the character attempting to apply an appearance must still meet the game’s current usability requirements. In practice, ask two separate questions: “Is this appearance unlocked for the Warband?” and “Can this character use it?” A yes to the first does not guarantee a yes to the second.

If an appearance is missing, check whether it is class-specific and whether the source item was actually collected under the current appearance rules. If it is visible but unavailable in the wardrobe, that is usually a usability restriction rather than a failure to share the collection.

Common mistakes and how to diagnose them

“My alt cannot see the item.”

  • Confirm both characters are on the same Battle.net account and region.
  • Reopen the Warband Bank at a banker and verify the item was deposited, rather than left in the source character’s personal bank.
  • Read the item tooltip for soulbound, Warbound until Equipped, class, or other restrictions.
  • Check that the destination character withdrew the item instead of looking only at personal bank tabs.

“The gear became unshareable.”

Check whether someone equipped it. Warbound until Equipped is specifically a pre-equipping transfer state. Once an item is equipped or otherwise becomes character-bound, the earlier transfer expectation no longer applies.

“Our reputation totals did not add together.”

That is expected for converted Warband reputations. The displayed value follows the highest progress reached by any character. Use the character with the furthest progress as the reference point rather than trying to sum alt bars.

“The reputation level is shared, but my reward is missing.”

Reward handling varies. Warband-wide rewards are granted once; some rewards still require collection on each character. Look for the reward on the character that earned it and read the current reward text before assuming the account-wide progress was lost.

“The appearance unlocked, but I cannot transmog it.”

Collection and use are separate. Most appearances can be collected by any Warband character, but class-specific appearances remain restricted, and a character may not be able to use an appearance that is visible in the collection.

Launch-era timing and current-patch checks

Blizzard’s July 11, 2024 launch article warned that the first-login Warband conversion could take up to 20 minutes or longer. Treat that as a launch-era operational warning, not an October 2026 service-level guarantee. If an alt appears to be missing shared data after a login, allow the game time to process the conversion, then relog and check the relevant bank, reputation, achievement, or collection interface.

The same caution applies to bank capacity, tab prices, item eligibility, reputation exceptions, and reward behavior. The official descriptions establish the feature’s design, while a later patch can change an implementation detail. For a high-value item or a planned reputation handoff, inspect the live tooltip and current in-game interface immediately before acting.

A safe checklist before you transfer anything

  1. Identify the source and destination characters and confirm that both belong to the same regional Battle.net account.
  2. Decide whether you are transferring an object or relying on shared progress. Only the former requires a bank deposit and withdrawal.
  3. For items, read the binding text. Non-soulbound items are the documented Warband Bank category; Warbound until Equipped gear must remain unequipped.
  4. For gold, deposit through the Warband Bank and withdraw through the same bank on the destination character.
  5. For crafting materials, try using them directly from the Warband Bank before taking up bag space.
  6. For reputations, verify that the reputation is converted to Warband status and remember that the highest alt progress is displayed.
  7. For appearances, distinguish account collection from the destination character’s ability to use the appearance.
  8. When a result differs from the tooltip or launch documentation, trust the current game interface and consult a current official patch note before repeating the operation.
