How digital game sharing works
Game sharing is tied to the console activation settings on the account that owns the purchase. It does not transfer ownership to a family member’s account. Once sharing is enabled, other users on that console can access eligible content from the purchasing account.

Share games on PS5
- Sign in on the PS5 using the PlayStation account that bought the games.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable. The first PS5 used to sign in with the account may already have this setting enabled.
- If sharing is enabled on another PS5, disable it on that console before enabling it on this one. The setting can be enabled on only one PS5 at a time.
With the setting enabled, anyone using that PS5 can play the purchasing account’s purchased and downloaded games and use eligible media, including while the console is offline. The purchase remains on the account that bought it. [PlayStation Support: PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play]
Share games on PS4
- Sign in on the PS4 using the account that bought the games.
- Go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PlayStation 4.
- Select Activate. The first PS4 used with the account may already be activated as primary.
Other players using that primary PS4 can access applications purchased from PlayStation Store. Each account can have one primary PS4. This activation can coexist with Console Sharing and Offline Play on one PS5. [PlayStation Support: Activate a primary PS4 console]

What is shared—and what is not
Sharing a game bought outright is different from sharing PlayStation Plus benefits. Sony lists selected Plus benefits that can be shared on one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled and one primary PS4:

- Games downloaded after being purchased with a PlayStation Plus discount.
- Downloaded Monthly Plus games.
- Catalog games, depending on the membership plan and whether the title remains available.
Other accounts do not get every Plus feature. Sony says they cannot use the purchasing member’s online storage, auto-patch downloads, early access to time-limited trials, or discounted Store purchases; they also cannot redeem Plus games on the other account. Children and family accounts
A family manager can share some main Plus benefits across one PS5 and one PS4. Child accounts remain subject to age ratings and parental controls set by the parent or family manager; sharing does not bypass those limits. [PlayStation Support: Share PlayStation Plus benefits]
If a shared game is locked or missing
- Confirm the owner account: Check that the account enabling sharing is the one that purchased the game.
- Check activation: Verify Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on the intended PS5, or that the intended PS4 is activated as the account’s primary console.
- For a Plus title: Confirm the subscription is active and that the title is still available through the membership or catalog.
- Check service and system conditions: Sony identifies PlayStation service status, system software, licenses, and network connectivity as possible factors. Follow Sony’s license and troubleshooting guidance; restarting the console or router may help with network-related issues. If you no longer have access to the previously activated console, Sony allows remote deactivation through Account Management, but it deactivates all devices and can be used only once every six months. Do not confuse game sharing with Share Play
Share Play is a remote session where a visitor can watch or participate in the host’s gameplay; it is not the local console activation used for household game access. Sony’s PS5 instructions require the host to have PlayStation Plus; both players need Plus for the play-together mode. A session automatically ends one hour after the visitor joins.
