Before you choose prices, decide on a small set of sustainable perks: YouTube allows up to six levels, but many creators should start with one to three.
Check whether your channel can offer memberships
YouTube’s current monetization guidance lists these thresholds for channel memberships:
- At least 500 subscribers.
- At least three public uploads in the past 90 days.
- Either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days.
You must also be at least 18, live in a location where memberships are available, accept the Commerce Product Module, and meet YouTube’s channel and content eligibility rules. Meeting the listed thresholds does not guarantee access to every feature: YouTube applies feature-specific eligibility and may withhold a feature after review. If your channel has just been accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), memberships may take up to two days to activate because YouTube may review the feature separately. The Memberships tab will appear in Studio when it is available to your account.

Set up memberships in YouTube Studio
- On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio using the channel account.
- Open Earn > Memberships. If the tab is missing, check your channel’s eligibility and wait for any feature review to finish.
- Select Get started.
- Review and accept the Commerce Product Module when prompted. This is required for first-time setup.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to create levels, choose the available prices, and assign perks. Review each level and its benefits before submitting the setup.
YouTube’s screens and available price choices are account- and country-specific. For an India-based channel, use the options shown in your current Studio setup flow rather than assuming every channel sees the same choices.
Choose a manageable number of levels and useful perks
YouTube permits up to six membership levels and advises creators to consider starting with one to three. A tier should have a clear reason to pay more, while the entry level should still feel worthwhile. Add complexity only when you can deliver each promise reliably.

Build tiers around incremental value
For each level, specify what members receive and how often. YouTube-supported options include badges and emoji, members-only posts, videos, Shorts, and live streams. Perks stack: members at higher levels also receive the benefits of lower levels. You can choose which levels may watch a members-only video.
Before setting a price, compare the benefit with the time, expense, and reliability needed to provide it. A perk that requires a personal response or custom work for every member may become difficult to sustain as membership grows. A repeatable digital benefit can be easier to deliver consistently. Ask your community what it values, such as through a members-only post or poll.

Compare possible tier designs before publishing

YouTube does not establish a universally best price or a tier structure that guarantees sign-ups. Treat the available price points as choices to discuss with your audience, not as a formula for a particular conversion rate.
India membership prices: use the current schedule carefully
YouTube’s India page labels its revised options “New channel membership pricing” and says the rollout began gradually in May 2025. The listed new price points are:

These are listed price options, not evidence that every channel or existing member has already moved to the revised schedule. YouTube separately lists older price points, and the amount for an existing member can depend on when they joined. When setting up a new level, rely on the country-specific choices displayed in your current YouTube Studio flow. YouTube says creators receive 70% of membership revenue recognized by Google after applicable taxes and fees are deducted. YouTube currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. If your channel belongs to a multi-channel network (MCN), check its terms: the network may take an additional share. The 70% figure is therefore not a promise of 70% of the amount a member pays before deductions.

You can edit perks at any time. Under YouTube’s described pricing policy, you can adjust prices for new members once every 12 months from the last update; existing members remain at their original price. Set clear benefit descriptions and a delivery schedule before launch, since changing a price for new sign-ups is limited.
Keep members-only content compliant
Members-only videos must be fully original and must not contain copyright-claimed content. Before offering a video, Short, or live stream as a perk, check that you have the rights to every included element, including music and footage, and that the content meets YouTube’s applicable policies. Do not promise a members-only upload schedule you cannot maintain.
After setup: make the levels easy to understand
- Write each level description so a viewer can tell what is included and how often it arrives.
- Make the difference between adjacent levels concrete; avoid adding a higher tier that offers no distinct value.
- Review the perks after launch and edit them when your delivery capacity or audience needs change.
YouTube Help states that, on average, 20% of new members join because they saw a members-only content promotion on YouTube Home, Watch Next, Search, or a channel page. YouTube’s page does not state a publication year or methodology for this figure, so it should not be treated as a forecast for an individual channel. Make sure any promoted members-only content accurately describes what viewers will receive.
