How to Set YouTube Bitrate for a 24/7 Podcast Stream in India

For a standard 1080p, 30-fps H.264 podcast stream, set YouTube’s video bitrate to 14 Mbps. If your connection cannot sustain that reliably, use 720p30 at 8 Mbps instead. These are YouTube’s general live-stream ingest recommendations; there is no separate India-specific or 24/7 bitrate. Choose the setting your upload connection can maintain steadily, then test it at the location and on the network you will use for the stream.

Recommended bitrate settings for a podcast livestream

Use the row that matches the video codec, resolution and frame rate your encoder actually sends. These are YouTube live-ingest values, not recommendations for uploading a finished video. The figures are from YouTube Help, accessed October 3, 2026: YouTube live encoder settings.

Format at 30 fps H.264 minimum H.264 recommended AV1/H.265 minimum AV1/H.265 recommended
1080p 5 Mbps 14 Mbps 4 Mbps 10 Mbps
720p 3 Mbps 8 Mbps 2 Mbps 6 Mbps
480p 0.4 Mbps 4 Mbps 0.3 Mbps 3 Mbps

For a conventional H.264 setup, 1080p30 at 14 Mbps is the recommended starting point when the connection is dependable. The minimum is not a target for a reliable production stream: using a lower bitrate may mean reducing resolution rather than sending an unstable 1080p feed. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as supported video codecs for RTMP/RTMPS ingest; use the appropriate column for the codec you configure.

How to configure the stream in YouTube and your encoder

  1. Enable live streaming and create an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, create or select a stream using the encoder workflow. A channel must be verified and have live streaming enabled; first-time enablement can take at least 24 hours. YouTube’s stream setup instructions are at Set up your YouTube live stream.
  2. Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Keep it private and reset it if it is exposed.
  3. Choose the output format. For a conventional landscape podcast layout, use 16:9 if that matches your video. Set the encoder’s resolution and frame rate to the same values you intend to send to YouTube, such as 1920×1080 at 30 fps or 1280×720 at 30 fps.
  4. Set video bitrate and encoding mode. For H.264, use 14 Mbps at 1080p30 or 8 Mbps at 720p30 as the recommended targets. Set rate control to CBR (constant bitrate), which keeps the outgoing bitrate steady.
  5. Set keyframes and transport. Use a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Use RTMPS where your encoder offers it.
  6. Configure audio separately. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists stereo audio at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Audio bitrate is separate from the video figures in the table.
  7. Run a realistic test and monitor it. Test from the actual streaming location and network, ideally with the usual audio and visual motion. Watch the Live Control Room’s stream health and address warnings before relying on the feed for a long run. YouTube’s guidance on checking stream quality is at Live encoder settings and stream health.

Choose 1080p or 720p by testing the actual uplink

The right setting is the highest quality your connection can sustain consistently, not the highest number your encoder allows. Check upload capacity under the conditions expected during the stream; an advertised internet speed alone does not establish that the connection will remain dependable while sending video.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Choose 1080p30 H.264 at 14 Mbps if a realistic test stays healthy at that rate and the extra detail matters to your presentation.
  • Choose 720p30 H.264 at 8 Mbps if the 1080p feed produces bitrate warnings, drops, or inconsistent stream health. A stable lower-resolution stream is preferable to a 1080p feed that repeatedly struggles.
  • Consider the picture itself. A mostly static podcast shot may look acceptable at a lower bitrate than fast movement, but YouTube does not publish a podcast-specific low-motion bitrate discount. Treat any reduction as a practical choice and verify the result in a realistic test.

YouTube’s advice to target upload speed at 1.5–2 times the combined target bitrate applies to simulstreaming to multiple destinations; it is not stated as a mandatory margin for one YouTube stream. For a single destination, test the upload connection and select a quality it can sustain. See YouTube’s encoder guidance and its multi-platform streaming guidance.

What changes—and does not change—for India and a 24/7 stream

YouTube’s published encoder table does not define a different bitrate for India or for continuous podcast streams. The applicable setting still depends on codec, resolution and frame rate. What varies by location is the reliability of the upload connection at the place where the stream is sent; test there rather than assuming a national or ISP-wide bitrate rule.

The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a special 24/7 preset, a maximum continuous-stream duration, or guaranteed uninterrupted uptime. For a long-running feed, conduct a prolonged test and plan how to recover after lost connectivity or an encoder restart. YouTube does not prescribe a specific test duration. Its current documented concurrency limit is 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key; those are limits on simultaneous active streams, not continuous duration. Details: encoder settings and live streaming limits.

Latency for a podcast without live interaction

If the podcast does not depend on real-time audience interaction, lower latency is less important. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering, so normal latency is a reasonable default unless interaction or another format requirement makes a shorter delay worthwhile. See YouTube’s latency settings guidance.

Troubleshoot bitrate and stream-health problems

  • Bitrate warning or the encoder cannot keep up: reduce output resolution and select its matching bitrate—for example, change from 1080p30 to 720p30 and use the corresponding H.264 recommendation. Check that the encoder’s codec, frame rate, audio format and keyframe interval are also configured correctly.
  • Stream health varies during testing: repeat the test on the network and at the location intended for the stream. If the connection cannot hold the selected settings consistently, use a lower-resolution option rather than relying on brief periods of good performance.
  • Feed does not appear as expected in YouTube: confirm that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the selected Studio stream, and check that the channel has live streaming enabled. Keep the key private.
  • Long-running stream stops: the cited guidance does not promise continuous uptime. Have a recovery procedure for connectivity loss or encoder restart, then check Live Control Room stream health when the feed returns.
