How to Set Your Galaxy S22 to LTE Instead of 5G

Yes. If your Galaxy S22 offers the setting, select a network mode that excludes 5G: open Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network mode, then choose LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) or another listed option without 5G. The available choices can vary by model, software version, region, and carrier.

Change the network mode

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile Networks.
  4. Tap Network mode.
  5. Select LTE/3G/2G (auto connect), or another available mode that does not include 5G.

Samsung’s India support guidance gives this menu path and lists LTE/3G/2G (auto connect) as an option. Samsung’s US support guide says you can search Settings for Network mode and select a mode without 5G. Samsung’s network connectivity instructions and US 5G support guide provide those steps.

What the setting changes

Network mode is the phone’s preferred mobile-network selection. Choosing a mode that excludes 5G means the phone will use the included network types, such as LTE, where service is available; it is not a way to make mobile service available where coverage is absent.

Samsung says 5G access depends on coverage, a compatible SIM, carrier service, and a plan that includes 5G. When 5G is unavailable, the phone can use LTE. The status-bar indicator can vary by carrier. The unlocked US Galaxy S22 specification lists mmWave, Sub-6, and C-Band support, but that specification should not be taken to mean every regional or carrier variant has the same bands. Samsung’s unlocked US Galaxy S22 spec sheet identifies those supported categories.

Samsung Galaxy S22, 128GB, Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • The S22 uses a flat (non‑curved) 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive 120 Hz refresh that dynamically adjusts between 48 – 120 Hz depending on content — which means smoother scrolling and better battery efficiency when high refresh isn’t needed.
  • Its main rear camera features a 50 MP sensor with what Samsung calls “Tetra‑binning,” delivering stronger detail in bright light and surprisingly good low‑light photos compared to many older flagships.
  • The build quality is designed to feel premium and durable: it uses an Armor Aluminum frame combined with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on front and back, which gives better scratch and drop resistance — nice if you want a relatively compact but rugged flagship.
  • For video content and editing, the S22 supports 8K recording — rare for a “smaller” flagship. That means you can shoot very high-resolution video, useful if you care about future‑proofing footage or cropping/editing later.
  • The phone strikes a balance of compactness and performance — in a world of increasingly large phones, the S22 remains fairly pocket‑friendly while still packing the 4 nm flagship‑class chipset (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 depending on region) for smooth daily performance.

If Network mode or an LTE-only choice is missing

Search Settings for Network mode first. If the result is absent or all listed choices include 5G, your carrier or device variant may expose a different set of options. Samsung notes that screens and settings vary by software version and model; for carrier-specific availability, consult your carrier’s instructions for your exact S22 model and service. Samsung also provides a separate guide to configuring Galaxy network settings.

Will turning off 5G improve battery life?

The cited Samsung guidance explains how to choose a network mode, but it does not provide a measured Galaxy S22 battery-life comparison with 5G enabled versus disabled. A specific battery-life gain is therefore not established by these sources.
