To add or change the places your business serves, manage its listing in Bing Places for Business, edit the business profile, and enter only the regions, towns, or cities where staff travel to customers. If customers do not visit your business address, hide that address from search results—but still provide a valid address for verification. Save the changes, then check the public listing to confirm how the service area and address appear.
The key is to keep two pieces of information separate: the valid address Bing needs for verification and the places where customers can actually receive service. A service area describes the latter; it is not a replacement for the address on file.

What a Bing Places service area means
A service area describes where your business delivers goods or services at customers’ locations. Bing’s Places API documentation gives regions, towns, and cities as examples, and identifies the field as intended for Professionals & Services businesses. It is not a list of places where you hope to attract customers: enter only locations your staff genuinely serve.
This setting is useful when the business travels to customers rather than receiving them at a public storefront. The important distinction is the customer experience at the address on the profile. A business can serve customers at a location, travel to customers, or do both; the address display should reflect what customers can actually do there.

For each place you consider adding, ask a straightforward question: does the business deliver its service or goods to customers at their location there? If the answer is yes, that place fits the meaning Bing gives the service-area field. If you only want to reach customers there but do not travel there to serve them, that alone does not make it a genuine service area.
Service areas and a business address therefore answer different questions. The address identifies the location Bing uses for the listing and verification; the service areas communicate where staff go to customers. Keeping them distinct helps avoid suggesting that customers can visit an address that is not open to them, or that the business serves places it does not actually cover.
Before changing the profile, choose the right address setup
| How customers are served | Address presentation | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Customers visit the stated business location | Show the address if it is a customer-facing location. | Provide the business address and, if applicable, the areas also served at customers’ locations. |
| Staff travel to customers; customers do not visit the stated address | Hide the address from search results. | Provide a valid address for verification, then specify the genuine service areas. |
| Customers visit a location and staff also travel to them | Use the presentation that accurately describes the customer-facing location; do not hide an address customers are expected to visit. | Provide the location and the places staff serve, where the service-area feature is available. |
Bing Places help makes the address distinction explicit: all businesses must provide a valid address for verification, while service providers can hide that address from search results. Hiding the address is not the same as leaving the address blank.
Choose based on what a customer can do at the stated address, not just on the fact that the business also travels. If customers are expected to go there, the public listing should not conceal a location they need to find. If they are not served there and staff go to them instead, Bing allows service providers to hide the address from search results. For a business that does both, retain a truthful presentation of its customer-facing location and separately describe the places staff serve.
Bing’s help describes eligibility in terms of either a physical address open to customers or an area where employees travel to visit customers. It also requires a valid address for verification. Thus, a business that works from a non-public location should not interpret address hiding as permission to omit its address from the account altogether.

How to add or change your service area
Bing’s public guidance supports claiming or adding a listing, completing its profile, and verifying it. Microsoft directs owners to Bing Places to claim or update business information. The official materials do not establish a durable, current click-by-click path or stable names for every dashboard control, so follow the profile-editing controls shown in your account rather than relying on a guessed button label.
- Sign in to Bing Places for Business. Find the existing business listing and use the available claim or management flow. If the business is not listed, start the add-listing flow instead. If more than one listing is visible, make sure you are working on the business profile whose service coverage you intend to change.
- Open the business profile’s editing flow. Locate the profile information for the business you want to update. Check that you have selected the correct listing before changing its service details. Microsoft identifies Bing Places as the route for claiming or updating a listing, but the exact labels and layout of the editing controls can change, so use the controls currently displayed in your account.
- Enter the actual service locations. Add the regions, towns, or cities where staff deliver goods or services at customers’ locations. Keep the list accurate and limited to places the business can serve; do not use it as a substitute for an address. The field’s purpose is to identify where service is delivered at the customer’s location, not where a business would like to be discovered.
- Set address visibility to match the customer experience. If customers do not visit the business address, choose the option to hide it from search results while retaining a valid address for verification. If customers do visit the listed location, make sure the presentation does not conceal a location customers are expected to find. The API calls this setting
HideAddress; a value oftruemeans the address is hidden in Bing search results. - Submit or save the profile changes. Follow any verification request Bing presents. Bing Places describes verification as protection against unauthorized changes and says a PIN may be verified through the business address, phone, or email. Verification and public address display are separate concerns: hiding an address from search results does not remove the need to provide a valid address for verification.
- Inspect the public listing. After submission, check the business in Bing search or Maps. Confirm that the service information is present and that the address is displayed or hidden as intended. If the public presentation does not match the changes you submitted, revisit the profile and check the relevant settings before contacting support.
Because the current editing path is not documented as a fixed sequence of named buttons, treat these as the work to complete rather than a promise about the wording or location of a particular control. The goal is to update the listing profile, enter genuine customer-service locations, choose appropriate address visibility, complete any requested verification, and then check the result.

Use locations that describe where the business actually travels to serve customers. For example, if staff provide on-site services in several cities, those cities can be used as service-area examples. Do not imply coverage in a place merely because it is nearby or commercially attractive if the business does not serve customers there.
- Prefer meaningful regions, towns, or cities rather than a broad claim that the business serves an entire country when it does not.
- Use the same practical coverage you communicate to customers when they ask whether you will travel to them.
- Review the list whenever the business changes its travel coverage, so the profile does not promise service the business no longer provides.
The API documentation describes service areas as locations where goods or services are delivered at customers’ locations. That definition is the right test for each place you add.
Think of the list as a factual description of the business’s service footprint. A city belongs if employees go there to provide the service or deliver goods at the customer’s location. A place does not belong just because it is within a convenient radius, is a neighboring community, or is somewhere the business may serve in the future. This approach keeps the profile aligned with the actual experience customers can expect.

For example, a service business that routinely visits customers in several named towns can enter those towns as its service-area examples. The API documentation does not provide a required number of places, a preferred radius, or a ranking formula for selecting them. Do not invent a coverage rule from the fact that the field accepts regions, towns, or cities. Instead, describe the places the business truly covers in terms that customers can recognize.

If a location is no longer served, leaving it listed can misrepresent the business’s coverage; if the business begins serving a new location, add it only when the service-area option is available to the account. The practical standard remains the same: staff must deliver the goods or service at customers’ locations in the place named.
Availability and supported markets
Microsoft cautions that some Bing Places features may not be available in every country or region. The API documentation lists ServiceAreas support for the following markets. This is the market list documented for that API version; it should not be treated as a guarantee that every account or product surface has identical availability today.
- Americas: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
- Europe: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.
- Asia-Pacific: Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Taiwan.
If the service-area control does not appear in your account, check the current options available to your business and region rather than assuming the listing is broken. Microsoft’s support guidance notes that regional availability can vary.
The list is a documented product-support list, not a promise that every feature is exposed in the same way to every user. The availability of ServiceAreas in an API version does not guarantee an identical dashboard experience or identical features in every country. If you cannot find a service-area control, avoid guessing at an alternative setting or entering an inaccurate address to compensate. Check the options offered in your current Bing Places account and consult Bing Places support if you need help determining what is available to your business.

If you manage the listing through an API or partner
The API workflow has a data-loss risk that is distinct from ordinary dashboard editing. Bing documents Create/Update as a full update: omitted data may be removed, and its FAQ advises submitting complete business data when making an API update. Before sending an update, include all business fields that must remain on the listing, not only the service-area value. This warning applies to API or partner integrations; the available documentation does not establish that ordinary dashboard edits behave the same way.
In practical terms, do not treat an API Create/Update request as a small patch that changes only one service-area field. The documented behavior is full-update, so a payload that leaves out other business details may remove those omitted details. Review the complete data you intend to retain before sending the request. If a partner manages the listing, confirm that its update process sends the complete business data required by Bing rather than only the changed field.
This caution is specifically about API and partner integrations. It should not be used to infer that normal edits in the Bing Places dashboard erase fields that were not changed; the API documentation does not make that claim about ordinary dashboard editing.
After submission: what to check if the listing looks wrong
- The address is visible when it should be hidden: Reopen the profile’s address settings and confirm the hide-address choice was saved. A valid verification address should remain on file even when it is not shown publicly.
- The service area is missing or incorrect: Return to the profile-editing flow, review the locations entered, and submit the corrected profile. Then check the public listing again.
- You cannot find a service-area option: Feature availability can vary by region and account. Confirm the controls currently offered in your Bing Places account; do not substitute an inaccurate address or coverage claim.
- The public listing has not changed yet: The official materials reviewed do not give a reliable publication deadline. Check again after submission, and contact Bing Places support if the information remains wrong or unavailable.
Do not infer a fixed update time from guidance for another listings service. Bing’s reviewed product and support materials do not promise a specific delay for service-area edits.
When checking the public listing, look at the two outcomes separately. First, verify that the address is presented in a way that matches whether customers can visit it. Second, confirm that the service-area information reflects the places where staff actually travel to customers. A correct address setting does not by itself confirm that the service-area list is right, and a correct service-area list does not change the requirement to keep a valid verification address on file.
Best Value
If a change is not visible immediately, the official Bing Places product, help, and API information does not provide a fixed publication deadline. Avoid promising yourself or customers that an edit will appear after a particular number of hours or days. Check the listing again after submission; if the information remains missing, inaccurate, or unavailable, use Bing Places support rather than assuming a delay or applying advice meant for another listing service.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add a service area to Bing Places?
Sign in to Bing Places for Business, claim or open the listing you manage, and edit its profile using the controls currently shown in your account. Enter the regions, towns, or cities where staff deliver goods or services at customers’ locations, submit the changes, complete any verification Bing requests, and check the public listing. Bing does not document a stable click-by-click sequence of dashboard controls.
Can I hide my address on Bing Places?
Yes. Bing says service providers can hide their address from search results when customers are served at their locations rather than at the listed address. You must still provide a valid address for verification. If customers are expected to visit the listed location, the public presentation should not conceal it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do I need an address for a Bing Places service-area business?
Yes. Bing Places help says businesses must provide a valid address for verification, including service providers that hide the address publicly. Hiding the address changes its search-result display; it does not mean leaving the address field blank.
How do I change the cities my business serves on Bing?
Open the business profile in Bing Places and use its current editing controls to update the service-area information. List only cities, towns, or regions where staff actually travel to deliver goods or services at customers’ locations. Save the profile and review the public listing. The exact control labels may vary, and Bing does not publish a reliable update-time estimate.
Why can’t I see a service-area option in my Bing Places account?
Bing notes that feature availability can vary by country or region, and the API support list does not guarantee that every account or product surface has identical options. Check the controls available in your current account and contact Bing Places support if the option appears unavailable.
How long does a Bing Places service-area change take to appear?
The official Bing Places product, support, and API information does not provide a reliable publication deadline for service-area edits. Check the public listing after submitting the change, and contact Bing Places support if it remains incorrect or unavailable.
The Bottom Line
Set a Bing Places service area to the regions, towns, or cities where staff actually serve customers at their locations. Keep a valid address on file for verification, hide it from search results only when customers do not visit it, and inspect the public listing after submitting changes. Regional feature availability can vary, and Bing does not promise a fixed publication time.
