You can configure Windows to open Wirecast when you sign in, but that alone will not restore the right show, put its playlist live, start playback, or begin the YouTube broadcast. Treat those as separate steps, then test the full sequence with your actual Wirecast version and YouTube event before relying on it unattended.
What “launch the playlist” involves
A Wirecast playlist is a shot in the production workflow. Getting a playlist onto YouTube after Windows starts involves four separate actions:

- Launch Wirecast: Windows opens the application after you sign in.
- Restore the show: Wirecast opens the saved document containing the playlist.
- Start the playlist: The playlist shot goes live in Wirecast and its media begins playing.
- Start YouTube Live: Wirecast begins sending the broadcast to the intended YouTube event.
Automating the first action does not guarantee the other three. Decide whether you want Wirecast merely ready to use, or a fully unattended broadcast; the latter needs separate configuration and testing for every stage.

1. Set Windows to open Wirecast after sign-in
Configure the Windows account that will run the broadcast to launch Wirecast when that account signs in. Use the Startup apps or Task Scheduler options available in your Windows installation. The exact labels and steps can differ between Windows versions and configurations, so follow the current Windows instructions for your edition rather than assuming that opening the app also restores or starts a broadcast.

This automation normally depends on the account signing in. A PC that is shut down, sleeping, awaiting sign-in, or unable to reach the network cannot run the production as intended. If you need a scheduled or unattended startup, check how your chosen Windows startup method handles sign-in, permissions, and recovery after updates or power loss.
2. Make Wirecast reopen the show with the playlist
Save the Wirecast document that contains your playlist. Then inspect Wirecast’s Preferences for a setting that opens the last document on startup. A legacy Telestream guide from December 2012 calls this preference “Open last document on startup”; that older wording does not establish the exact setting name or availability in current releases. Check the preferences in your installed version and confirm that the intended document actually opens after you close and relaunch Wirecast. Telestream’s Wirecast for YouTube guide

If Wirecast opens to a different document or an empty production, Windows has successfully launched the app, but the show-restoration step has not worked. Do not assume the playlist will be selected merely because it is present in a saved show.
3. Put the playlist live and start its playback
In the Wirecast 7 Windows guide, the documented workflow is to select the playlist shot into Preview and click Go to take it live. That describes how to operate that version; the exact controls can differ in current builds. Wirecast 7 Windows guide

Wirecast 16’s Windows guide documents media commands including Start Playing All Movies and Shuffle Playlist. It also describes AutoLive as placing a clicked shot in the Live Broadcast Area. These are documented controls, not evidence that playback or shot selection happens automatically when Wirecast launches. Wirecast 16 Windows User Guide
Check your installed version for a supported way to select the playlist shot and begin playback automatically. If you cannot confirm such a setting, plan to start those actions manually after launch. Do not treat a playlist’s presence in the document, or a general media-playback command, as proof that the playlist will start by itself.

4. Configure and verify the YouTube broadcast start
Starting playlist playback in Wirecast and starting the YouTube broadcast are distinct actions. If you want YouTube Live to begin without an operator, verify the current Wirecast destination and event settings for the specific YouTube event you will use. Confirm the correct event is selected and that the setting intended to start the event automatically is enabled, if available.
Version matters: Telestream’s version history says Wirecast 16.5.1 fixed an issue in which a stream would not automatically start a YouTube event when Automatically Go Live was checked. That history is a reason to verify your installed release and test the actual event, not a guarantee that automatic start will work in every configuration. Telestream lists Wirecast 16.5.3 dated June 10, 2026, while its support page lists releases through 16.5.4; check the current support page for the latest release and Windows requirements before updating or troubleshooting. Test the complete startup chain
- Save the correct Wirecast show with the playlist in it.
- Close Wirecast and sign out of the Windows account used for the broadcast, or restart Windows if appropriate.
- Sign in and observe whether Wirecast launches and opens the intended show.
- Confirm the playlist shot becomes live and its media begins playing; verify any step that still requires an operator.
- Check that Wirecast connects to the intended YouTube event and that the broadcast actually starts.
- Monitor the result using a private or otherwise appropriate test event before relying on the setup for a public, unattended stream.
Repeat the test after changes to Wirecast, Windows startup behavior, the saved show, or the YouTube event configuration. The available documentation does not establish a universal, reliable end-to-end unattended startup procedure across current Windows and Wirecast configurations.
Common failures and what to check
- Wirecast does not open: Check the Windows startup method, the account that signs in, and whether the app launches normally when opened by hand.
- Wirecast opens the wrong show or no show: Save the intended document and check the installed release’s startup preferences. The “Open last document on startup” label is documented in a 2012 guide, not confirmed as current wording.
- The show opens, but the playlist is not live: Opening a saved document does not itself place the playlist shot into the Live Broadcast Area. Check shot selection and the Go/AutoLive workflow in your installed version.
- The playlist is visible but not playing: Confirm playback has started. Wirecast 16 documents a manual Start Playing All Movies command; that does not establish automatic playback on launch.
- Wirecast is sending video but YouTube has not started the event: Check the selected destination, the actual YouTube event, and its automatic-start configuration. The Wirecast version history records a past fix for an automatic-start issue, so verify the installed release.
- The broadcast stops after a restart, update, or connection interruption: Re-test the whole chain and determine which stage failed. Do not assume Windows relaunch, playlist playback, and YouTube reconnection are one feature.
