You can set up YouTube channel memberships in YouTube Studio under Earn > Memberships, if your channel meets the feature’s eligibility, location, policy, and terms requirements. A sustainable launch starts with a few clearly defined levels, perks you can reliably deliver, and a plan to promote the offer and track which levels attract and retain members. YouTube Help’s current guidance, accessed in 2026, says creators can make up to six levels and receive 70% of net revenue under the applicable Commerce Product Module; neither eligibility nor earnings is guaranteed.
Check whether your channel is eligible
Open YouTube Studio and check the Earn area rather than assuming memberships are available. YouTube’s membership-specific checks include:

- Your channel is based in a location where memberships are available.
- The channel is not set as Made for Kids and does not have a significant number of videos set as Made for Kids.
- The channel does not have a significant number of ineligible videos, including Made for Kids videos and music-claimed videos.
- You accept and comply with applicable terms and policies, including the Commerce Product Module.
The broader YouTube Partner Program (YPP) requirements also matter. YouTube Help lists policy compliance, availability in an eligible country or region, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, access to advanced features, and one active AdSense for YouTube account—or readiness to create one in Studio. Its described YPP eligibility routes are 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the preceding 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. Shorts-feed watch hours do not count toward the 4,000-hour route. Meeting those thresholds alone does not guarantee access to memberships: YouTube reviews applications for policy compliance and the feature has its own requirements. Use a computer and complete the setup in YouTube Studio. YouTube reviews levels and perks before they go live.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn in the left menu.
- Open the Memberships tab. If it is not available, check eligibility, location availability, and any Studio notices before proceeding.
- In Add levels and perks, follow the on-screen setup to create your offer.
- Review the level names, prices, and every promised perk, including benefits that carry up from lower levels.
- Select Publish. YouTube says review takes about one day; publication is subject to approval.
Those interface labels and the review estimate are from YouTube Help, accessed in 2026. Allow time for review before scheduling a launch announcement.

How many membership levels can I create?
You can configure up to six levels, with one to five perks per level. Perks stack: a member at a higher-priced level also receives the benefits assigned to every lower level. These limits are stated by YouTube Help, accessed in 2026.
YouTube advises many creators to start with one to three levels and add more after reviewing how the program performs. Fewer levels can make the offer easier to explain and the delivery workload easier to predict. Before adding a tier, compare its price and likely audience appeal with the distinct value it offers, the work required to deliver it, and whether you can track its acquisition and retention.
What perks should I offer members?
Choose benefits viewers have a reason to pay for and that you can fulfill consistently. YouTube lists platform-native options including badges, posts, custom emoji, members-first videos, live chat, members-only live streams, milestone chats, a recognition shelf, Shorts, and videos. Availability and presentation can depend on YouTube’s current tools and policies.

Design tiers around a manageable delivery commitment, not an ambitious promise that becomes difficult to keep. For example, a lower level might offer a low-effort benefit such as a badge or member post; a higher level can add a more exclusive benefit only if you can sustain the additional work. If a higher tier includes all lower-tier perks, account for the cumulative workload. Make the difference between levels explicit, and avoid promising a posting cadence, access, or personal attention you cannot reliably provide. YouTube says creators are responsible for delivering promised perks and that perks must comply with its membership policies. Review YouTube’s channel membership policies before publishing.
How do I price and promote my memberships?
YouTube does not prescribe a universal price formula. Its guidance is to consider why your audience might join, the value and effort of each perk, prices shown for different countries or regions, and feedback from your community. Ask viewers what benefits they would value, then choose prices that reflect both the offer and the ongoing effort needed to deliver it.
Keep the tier descriptions concrete: say what a member receives and what is exclusive, while making clear that higher levels include lower-level perks. You can edit perks at any time. YouTube says prices for new members can be adjusted once every 12 months after the previous price update; existing members stay at the price at which they originally joined. Check current options and terms in Studio, since interface details and pricing rules can change. These pricing and tier recommendations reflect YouTube Help, accessed in 2026.

Make the launch understandable
- Prepare at least some members-only material before inviting people to join, so the offer is ready to deliver.
- Announce the program in a video and consider an intro video that explains the levels and perks.
- Mention memberships in public uploads and add a
/joinlink to default video descriptions, as YouTube’s launch tips recommend. - Use members-only content or early access where it suits your channel, and engage members through posts.
- Explain why you are launching memberships and how member support will be used. Reassure viewers that the ordinary channel experience remains available to nonmembers.
Keep promoting the offer after launch, but make the invitation specific and proportionate: describe the benefit and let viewers decide whether it suits them.
How much of membership revenue does YouTube pay creators?
Under the Commerce Product Module, YouTube says it pays creators 70% of net revenues from channel memberships and certain other fan-funding products: Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks. This is the stated share under the applicable module terms—not 70% of a membership’s displayed price, and not a forecast of what a creator will earn. The applicable terms govern an individual creator’s arrangement.
Actual earnings depend on whether viewers join and remain members, and YouTube does not guarantee a particular payment. YouTube’s earnings overview says monthly estimated revenue in Analytics can be adjusted for matters including invalid traffic, Content ID claims, disputes, or certain ad campaign types; finalized earnings appear in AdSense for YouTube. Review the current Commerce Product Module terms and YouTube earnings overview. The 70% figure and terms cited here are from YouTube Help, accessed in 2026.
Track acquisition, retention, and delivery
After launch, use the membership reporting in YouTube Studio to see which levels are gaining and retaining members. YouTube’s launch guidance recommends monitoring acquisition and retention by level, then using what you learn to refine the offer. Review those patterns alongside the time and cost of delivering each perk: a tier that attracts members but creates an unsustainable workload needs attention, not automatic expansion.

Invite feedback from members and nonmembers, and make changes deliberately. You can edit perks, but remember that members at higher levels receive the lower-level benefits too. YouTube’s channel memberships launch tips discuss planning, announcing, engaging members, and monitoring performance.

Memberships can enter paused mode in circumstances including channel termination, monetization policy violations, loss of monetization, or setting a channel as Made for Kids. In paused mode, the Join button disappears, payments pause, and members lose access to perks. YouTube Help says that if the channel does not leave paused mode within 120 days, the program ends, members are lost, and their last month’s payment is refunded from the creator’s revenue share. Monitor channel and monetization status, and consult YouTube’s membership help and policies if your channel’s status changes. Keep a 24/7 prerecorded live stream separate from memberships
Channel memberships are an offer for your viewers; a prerecorded 24/7 YouTube stream is a separate channel operation. If that is part of your programming, it does not replace the membership setup, eligibility checks, or perk commitments described above.

Can I change a membership perk after launch?
Yes. YouTube says perks may be edited at any time. Review the updated offer in Studio and make sure you can deliver every benefit members are promised.
Do existing members pay a new price if I change my tier price?
YouTube says existing members remain at the price at which they originally joined when you adjust prices for new members.
Does meeting the YPP subscriber and viewing thresholds guarantee memberships?
No. Those thresholds are general YPP eligibility routes, not a guarantee of the Memberships feature. Location, feature-specific requirements, terms, and policy review also apply.
