Start with a comfortable arm’s-length viewing distance, set the screen so you look slightly downward, match its brightness to the room, and reduce reflections. During play, take regular breaks to look into the distance and blink. These changes can make a setup more comfortable, but persistent eye symptoms should not be assumed to come only from monitor settings.
How far should you sit from your gaming monitor?
Begin at about arm’s length. The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) gives about 25 inches as a practical distance for computer screens, while the American Optometric Association (AOA) advises gamers to stay at least 20 inches from larger screens. These are starting points, not a precise rule for every display or viewer: adjust for screen size and comfortable legibility.

If small text or interface elements make you lean forward, increase the game’s text size or use operating-system scaling where practical rather than moving closer. The AOA’s gaming and digital-eyestrain guidance and the AAO’s computer-use advice provide the distance recommendations.
How high should a gaming monitor be?
Position the monitor so your eyes naturally look slightly downward at the screen. EyeWiki’s ergonomic starting point is to place the top of the monitor at or just below eye level. Adjust the height and tilt until you can see the display without craning your neck or holding an uncomfortable posture. If the included stand cannot reach a comfortable height, a suitable riser or adjustable arm may help.

- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
To deal with reflections, first shift or tilt the display and reposition nearby lights. The AOA suggests tilting the bottom of the screen toward the player to reduce glare. If a window is reflecting in the panel, changing the monitor’s position or shielding the window may help. EyeWiki’s Computer Vision Syndrome reference describes monitor ergonomics and glare control.
What brightness should your monitor be for gaming?
There is no universal brightness percentage in the cited eye-health guidance. Adjust the screen in the room where you play: if it looks conspicuously brighter than its surroundings, lower the brightness. Also reduce or redirect room lights that create reflections rather than trying to compensate for glare by making the display brighter.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
The practical target is comfortable visibility without a glaringly bright screen or distracting reflections. Lighting conditions change, so a setting that works in a bright room may feel too intense in a darker one.

- Pause every 20 minutes. Look at something about 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds—the 20-20-20 routine.
- Blink fully a few times. Concentrating on a screen can reduce blinking. The AAO says people normally blink about 15 times a minute and that screen staring can cut the rate in half; this is a general comparison, not a gaming-specific measurement.
- Respond to dryness. If your eyes feel dry, the AAO says artificial tears may refresh them.
These habits address common contributors to digital eye discomfort. They do not establish the cause of persistent or severe symptoms.

Do a higher refresh rate or blue-light glasses reduce gaming eye strain?
Refresh rate
A 120 Hz, 144 Hz, or 240 Hz specification is not, by itself, evidence that a monitor will reduce eye strain. The cited eye-health guidance does not establish that upgrading to a higher gaming refresh rate treats or prevents eye strain. Choose a monitor refresh rate for gaming needs, not as a proven eye-health remedy.
Blue-light glasses and evening display modes
The AAO says blue light from screens has not been shown to damage eyes and does not recommend special blue-light-blocking eyewear for computer use. As the Academy puts it, “Blue light from computers will not lead to eye disease.” A warmer or dimmer evening display mode may be a sleep-habit choice; it is not established here as a treatment for gaming eye strain. See the AAO’s digital-device guidance and blue-light advice.

When an anti-glare filter may help
If reflections remain after you adjust the screen and room lighting, a matte anti-glare monitor filter is an optional glare-control measure. Check the filter’s dimensions and attachment method against your monitor. EyeWiki notes that antiglare filters reduce reflection and glare, but may not reduce asthenopia (eye strain); a filter should not be treated as a cure for discomfort.

If symptoms continue despite reasonable adjustments and breaks, contact an ophthalmologist, as the AAO advises. The AOA recommends an in-person eye exam for gamers with concerns about eye health. Persistent symptoms should not automatically be attributed to the monitor; an eye-care professional can assess them.
