How to Set Up Xbox Cloud Gaming on a PS5 With a Web Browser (What Actually Works)

You cannot follow a documented, officially supported procedure to run Xbox Cloud Gaming directly on a PS5 browser. Xbox’s published device list includes Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, handhelds, Steam Deck, Android and Apple mobile devices, selected smart TVs and streaming devices, and Meta Quest. It does not list PlayStation 5. Xbox’s browser instructions name Android, macOS, iOS, iPadOS and ChromeOS, not PS5.

You can still play Xbox cloud games on a television by using a supported computer, phone or tablet connected to the display, or a compatible streaming device. If your goal is to stream games directly on the PS5, PlayStation offers a separate Cloud Streaming service for eligible PlayStation games with PlayStation Plus Premium; that service does not run Xbox games.

What the official support information says

Xbox’s current support material does not provide a PS5 setup path. That conclusion is based on the devices Xbox lists as supported and the operating systems named in its browser guide, rather than on a categorical statement that every possible unofficial browser experiment can never work.

In practical terms, a PS5 owner should not expect to open a console browser, visit Xbox.com/play and receive a supported Xbox Cloud Gaming experience. The service may reject the device, fail to provide a usable control scheme, or work unpredictably after an update. Xbox does not document troubleshooting, performance targets or customer support coverage for PS5 as an endpoint.

Windows PCs and Macs Use a supported, up-to-date web browser at Xbox.com/play A computer connected to your TV is a documented alternative
Chromebooks Use a supported browser Another browser-based endpoint, but not PS5
Android and Apple phones or tablets Use a supported browser; mobile devices can add the page to the home screen Connect the mobile device to a display if desired

Smart TVs and streaming devices Xbox lists supported TV and streaming categories, including Amazon Fire TV Check the exact model before buying; a category listing is not model-level confirmation
Meta Quest Listed as a supported device family Separate from PS5 browser access

Xbox Wire’s December 19, 2025 guide says browser streaming is intended for Android, macOS, iOS, iPadOS and ChromeOS. The Xbox service FAQ also names supported browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Safari. Neither source includes PS5.

Why the usual browser instructions do not prove PS5 compatibility

The official browser flow is simple because it assumes a supported operating system and browser: update the browser, open Xbox.com/play, sign in, and select a cloud-playable game. Those instructions describe the service’s web client, but they do not turn every browser-equipped device into a supported endpoint.

Compatibility depends on more than whether a page can load. Xbox must recognize the device and browser, deliver the correct video and input capabilities, accept a controller, and maintain a connection that meets its streaming requirements. A console browser can differ from desktop and mobile browsers in user-agent reporting, media support, storage, input handling and update cadence. Xbox has not published a PS5-specific compatibility statement or workaround.

Therefore, trying the address on a PS5 is an experiment, not a supported setup. Do not buy a new controller, change your Microsoft account or alter network settings on the assumption that one of those steps will make the PS5 an approved Xbox Cloud Gaming device.

Requirements when you use a supported device

Subscription, account and region

Most cloud games require an eligible Game Pass plan, a Microsoft account and a region where Xbox Cloud Gaming is available. Xbox Wire’s December 19, 2025 guide referred to 29 supported countries at that time. Availability, plan terms and the catalog can change, so check the current Xbox availability information for your country before troubleshooting a device.

Xbox also identifies an exception: selected free-to-play games can be accessed with a free Microsoft account in a supported region. The exception applies only to games Xbox marks as eligible; it does not make the whole catalog available without a qualifying plan.

Browser and device

  • Use one of the supported device families and an up-to-date supported browser.
  • On a computer, phone or tablet, use Xbox.com/play rather than an unofficial mirror or an app claiming to unlock unsupported hardware.
  • On mobile, Xbox Wire says you can add the page to the home screen after signing in for easier access.

Network connection

Xbox’s service FAQ lists 10 Mbps download as a minimum and says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. Xbox Wire recommends at least 20 Mbps for a stable connection, preferably over wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. These are recommendations, not guarantees: latency, congestion, distance from the service, local Wi-Fi interference, device performance and other traffic can still cause blur, delay or disconnections.

Controller

You need a compatible controller connected over Bluetooth or USB unless the individual game offers Xbox touch controls. Xbox lists Xbox controllers, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock controllers, and Nintendo Switch Pro controllers among supported Bluetooth controller types on compatible setups.

A DualSense can therefore be useful when connected to a supported computer, phone, tablet or other endpoint. Its presence does not make the PS5 console itself a supported Xbox Cloud Gaming device.

Official setup procedure on a supported endpoint

Use these steps on a Windows PC, Mac, Chromebook, Android device or Apple device that meets Xbox’s supported-browser requirements. They are not a verified PS5 procedure.

  1. Confirm the endpoint. Use a device family named by Xbox and check that its operating system and browser are current. If you are using a television or streaming device, verify the exact model’s current compatibility rather than relying only on a broad category name.
  2. Prepare the connection. Aim for at least 20 Mbps download, use wired Ethernet when practical, or connect the device to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Pause large downloads and other high-bandwidth activity while testing.
  3. Connect a controller. Pair a supported controller through Bluetooth or plug it in with USB. On a phone or tablet, confirm that the operating system reports the controller as connected before opening the game.
  4. Open a supported browser. Examples named by Xbox include Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Safari. Update the browser if Xbox reports that the version is unsupported.
  5. Go to Xbox.com/play. Enter the address directly in the browser. Avoid assuming that a search result, bookmark or third-party launcher is an official Xbox endpoint.
  6. Sign in. Use the Microsoft account that owns the required Game Pass plan, or a free account for an eligible free-to-play title. If the service shows that cloud gaming is unavailable, confirm the account region and plan before changing hardware.
  7. Choose a cloud-enabled game. Select a title marked as playable through the cloud. A game in the broader Game Pass catalog is not automatically available for cloud streaming.
  8. Start the session and test input. Let the stream reach its normal picture quality, then check menus, movement and latency. If controls feel delayed, test a wired connection or move closer to the 5 GHz access point before lowering other settings.
  9. Optionally add the page to a mobile home screen. On supported Android or Apple devices, use the browser’s add-to-home-screen command after the page is working. This creates a shortcut; it does not change device eligibility.

Using a DualSense without misunderstanding the limitation

Many PS5 owners already have a DualSense, and Xbox’s controller guidance means that controller can be reused on a supported endpoint. Pair it with the computer, phone, tablet or streaming device that is actually running the cloud session. Do not connect it to the PS5 and assume the PS5 will relay its browser session to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Bluetooth support can vary by operating system and browser. If pairing is unreliable, connect the controller by USB where the endpoint allows it, remove duplicate Bluetooth pairings, and confirm that the game sees button input before beginning a long session. Controller compatibility is an input feature; it is separate from Xbox’s list of approved devices.

Ways to put Xbox Cloud Gaming on a television

Computer connected by HDMI

A Windows PC or Mac is the most flexible documented option. Open Xbox.com/play in a supported browser, connect the controller to the computer, and send the picture to the television with HDMI. This keeps the supported browser and game session on the computer while the TV acts as the display.

Phone or tablet connected to a display

An Android phone, iPhone, iPad or compatible tablet can run the supported browser flow. Use a suitable wired display adapter or a supported wireless display method, and remember that the network, device heat and adapter can affect stability. The phone or tablet remains the cloud endpoint.

Streaming device

Xbox lists Amazon Fire TV among its supported-device categories. The material reviewed does not identify which exact Fire TV Stick models are currently compatible. Check Xbox’s current device requirements and the specific model’s software support before purchasing. A compatible streaming device can provide an Xbox endpoint for the television; it does not unlock Xbox Cloud Gaming on the PS5 itself.

TV applications and other listed endpoints

Xbox has also described access through selected smart-TV applications, handhelds, Steam Deck and Meta Quest. Availability can depend on country, model, software version and service rollout. Treat each as a separate supported endpoint and verify current compatibility at the time you set it up.

Microsoft Game Developer reported that players streamed 140 million gameplay hours through Xbox Cloud Gaming from October through December 2024. That figure demonstrates service usage during that period; it is not evidence that PS5 support has been added.

The separate PlayStation option: Cloud Streaming on PS5

If your actual goal is to stream games directly through a PS5, PlayStation offers its own Cloud Streaming feature for selected games from the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus catalogs. It requires PlayStation Plus Premium and a broadband connection.

PlayStation’s stated minimum for establishing a session is 5 Mbps upload and 5 Mbps download. The feature streams eligible PlayStation titles; it does not provide access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox Game Pass games or Xbox account entitlements. Catalog eligibility also varies by title and can change.

This makes PlayStation Plus Premium a platform-native alternative for supported PlayStation games, not a workaround for running Xbox’s service. If a particular Xbox game is the reason you are considering cloud play, you need an Xbox-supported endpoint instead.

Xbox Cloud Gaming versus PS5 Cloud Streaming

Question Xbox Cloud Gaming PlayStation Cloud Streaming on PS5
Game library Cloud-enabled Xbox games, subject to plan, region and catalog rules Selected PlayStation games from the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus catalogs
Primary endpoint Supported Xbox consoles, computers, mobile devices, selected TVs and streaming devices, handhelds, Steam Deck and Meta Quest PS5 for eligible titles and the PlayStation cloud-streaming ecosystem
Subscription Usually an eligible Game Pass plan; selected free-to-play games can use a free Microsoft account in supported regions PlayStation Plus Premium
Browser on PS5 No documented supported setup Not required for the native PS5 cloud-streaming feature
Published bandwidth guidance 10 Mbps download minimum in the service FAQ; 20 Mbps recommended for some devices and for a stable connection 5 Mbps upload and download minimum to establish a session

Troubleshooting a supported setup

The page says the browser or device is unsupported

Update the operating system and browser, then confirm that the endpoint is one of Xbox’s listed families. If you are testing on PS5, stop treating the message as a configuration problem: Xbox has not documented that console as a supported endpoint, so changing browser settings cannot provide an official fix.

The game starts but the picture is soft or delayed

  • Run a connection test and compare the result with Xbox’s 10 Mbps minimum and 20 Mbps recommendations.
  • Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet, move closer to the access point, and pause other downloads or video streams.
  • Test at another time if your connection is congested; speed alone does not measure latency or route quality.
  • Try the same account and game on another supported endpoint to separate a service issue from a device or network issue.

The controller is not detected

Reconnect it by USB or Bluetooth, remove stale pairings, and verify that the operating system recognizes button presses outside the game. Check that the title supports the controller method you are using. A working DualSense on a computer or phone does not imply that the PS5 browser is eligible.

A game is missing from the catalog

Confirm that the title is marked cloud-enabled, that your Game Pass plan includes the required access, and that your account is in a supported region. Catalog and plan availability can change independently of your device’s technical capability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fire TV setup is unclear

Do not infer compatibility from the words “Fire TV” alone. Xbox’s category listing does not establish support for every Fire TV Stick generation. Check the current Xbox requirements and the exact model’s software status before purchase or troubleshooting.

What may change over time

Supported devices, browser versions, countries, subscription terms, catalogs and bandwidth guidance are service details that can be revised. Xbox Wire’s 29-country figure is dated December 19, 2025, and the service FAQ used here was checked October 13, 2026. Recheck Xbox’s current support pages when setting up a new device. The central answer remains limited to documented support: the published Xbox materials do not currently provide a PS5 browser procedure.
