How to Set Up XbotGo Falcon for Automatic Sideline Sports Tracking

By Freedom251 Team · · 10 min read

To set up XbotGo Falcon for automatic sideline tracking, install a compatible microSD card, mount the camera on an NT4 or NT4 Pro tripod, pair it through the XbotGo App (not the phone’s Wi-Fi settings), start a recording so Falcon can self-calibrate, and then follow the app’s prompts to move and raise the tripod. Once the position is confirmed, review the recording settings and leave the camera body untouched while play is underway.

The official XbotGo Support setup guide, updated July 28, 2026, and XbotGo’s product information provide the equipment requirements, connection sequence, tracking behavior, and operating limits covered here.

What you need before arriving at the sideline

Gather every item before you begin. Falcon cannot record without storage, and pairing depends on both the phone’s Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios being available.

Item Requirement or purpose
Falcon camera The camera unit, charged before the session.
Quick-release plate The supplied plate that interfaces with the tripod head.
Tripod An NT4 or NT4 Pro tripod, or a tripod with a compatible quick-release interface.
microSD card UHS-I V30 or faster; Falcon supports capacities up to 1,024GB. The card is not included.
Phone A phone with the XbotGo App version 4.3.0 or later installed.
App permissions Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled; on iPhone, Local Network permission enabled.

Turn off or bypass VPN and ad-blocking software while pairing. XbotGo says these can interfere with the local connection between the phone and Falcon. You can restore those services after setup if they are not needed during the recording.

Choose and install the microSD card

Use the required speed class

For a 4K recording workflow, use a UHS-I microSD card rated V30 or higher. V30 indicates a sustained write-speed class suitable for demanding video recording; the key point for Falcon is the UHS-I V30-or-faster specification stated by XbotGo. Falcon supports cards up to 1,024GB.

Do not assume that a card with a large capacity is suitable if its speed class is lower. A card that does not meet the required sustained-write performance can cause recording errors, dropped footage, or a failure to start. The official product information also states that the card is sold separately.

Insert the card before powering up a session

  1. Power the camera off if it is already running.
  2. Open the microSD slot and insert the card in the orientation marked on the camera.
  3. Press it in until it is seated and the retention mechanism engages.
  4. Close the slot cover securely before placing Falcon outdoors or near the playing surface.

XbotGo’s setup guide is explicit: “Without an SD card, Falcon cannot record videos.” If the app later reports that storage is unavailable, power down, reseat the card, and check that it is a UHS-I V30-or-faster model with available space.

Power on Falcon

  1. Locate the power safety lock on the bottom of the camera.
  2. Unlock the safety lock.
  3. Press the power button.
  4. Wait for the startup interface to appear before attempting to pair the phone.

Falcon uses a 9,600mAh battery. XbotGo rates runtime at approximately four hours, but that is an estimate rather than a guaranteed match-day duration: resolution, tracking activity, wireless use, and other settings can change the result. Charge fully before a long event and plan a charging option if the schedule can exceed the rated runtime.

Mount Falcon on the sideline tripod

Attach the quick-release plate

  1. Place the supplied quick-release plate on the NT4 or NT4 Pro tripod head.
  2. Tighten the plate to the head so it cannot rotate or rock.
  3. Check that the plate rail is parallel with Falcon’s base slot.

Slide and lock the camera

  1. Slide Falcon into the base slot from the side rather than dropping it straight down.
  2. Move the camera toward the center of the plate.
  3. Tighten the locking knob until the camera is firm.
  4. Apply a gentle hand check to confirm that the camera does not slide, twist, or wobble.

The 815g camera has a 360-degree rotation range and a 160-degree tilt range, but those movement ranges do not replace a secure tripod installation. Keep the tripod legs fully spread and on stable ground, and ensure that spectators, balls, or equipment cannot catch a leg during play.

Connect Falcon to the XbotGo App

Pairing must begin inside the XbotGo App. Do not select Falcon from the phone’s ordinary Wi-Fi settings as a substitute. The official guide says the camera’s connection is established through the app, which handles the device discovery and the request to join Falcon’s built-in Wi-Fi.

  1. Enable Bluetooth on the phone.
  2. Enable Wi-Fi on the phone.
  3. Open XbotGo App version 4.3.0 or later.
  4. On the app home screen, open Device Connections.
  5. Tap Add Device.
  6. Choose Falcon.
  7. Accept the system prompt asking the phone to join Falcon’s built-in Wi-Fi.

On an iPhone, allow Local Network access when iOS asks. Without that permission, the app may be unable to discover or communicate with the camera even though Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are switched on.

If pairing does not complete

  • Confirm Falcon has finished starting up rather than remaining on its startup screen.
  • Confirm Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled on the phone.
  • Check that the app is version 4.3.0 or later.
  • On iPhone, open the phone’s privacy settings and enable Local Network access for XbotGo.
  • Temporarily disable a VPN or ad blocker, then restart the connection from Device Connections and Add Device.
  • Do not manually join Falcon’s network from the phone’s Wi-Fi list; return to the app and accept its connection prompt.

If the phone is connected to another network that automatically takes priority, leave the app open while accepting Falcon’s Wi-Fi request. Once the camera is connected, remain in the app for the recording and monitoring controls.

Start a session and let Falcon calibrate

  1. In the connected XbotGo App, tap Record.
  2. Select the recording mode offered for the event.
  3. Enter venue information if the app requests it.
  4. Wait for the recording interface to open.
  5. Allow Falcon to complete its automatic self-calibration.

XbotGo states that once the recording interface opens, Falcon automatically starts calibration and requires no manual intervention. Do not rotate the camera by hand or try to aim it while this process is running.

Use the calibration prompts to set the sideline position

After calibration, the app prompts you to position and raise the tripod. Move the tripod itself; do not manually turn the Falcon body. The camera’s tracking system needs the calibrated orientation to correspond to the physical position you select.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

What to adjust

  • Position: Move the tripod along the sideline or to the placement indicated by the app.
  • Height: Raise or lower the tripod as prompted, keeping all three legs stable.
  • Level and stability: Correct a leaning or rocking tripod before confirming the placement.
  • Clear view: Check that fences, benches, team shelters, and nearby spectators do not block the expected field of view.

Exact sideline distances and heights vary by sport, venue layout, and the current sport mode. XbotGo maintains sport-specific recommendations in a separate sport-mode support article. Use that current guidance, together with the prompts shown by the app, rather than applying one universal height to soccer, basketball, football, hockey, tennis, lacrosse, or another sport.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Once the app accepts the placement, do not reposition the tripod unless you stop the session and repeat the setup. A small shift can change the camera’s relationship to the field and reduce tracking accuracy.

Review recording preferences before pressing record

The recording interface exposes several settings that affect the footage and the way Falcon behaves. Review them before the game begins.

Setting What to check Why it matters
Auto Tracking Confirm it is enabled when the goal is automatic sideline following. Falcon uses this mode to keep the action in frame.
Resolution Select the resolution appropriate for the card, battery, and intended delivery. Higher resolution can increase storage and power demand; XbotGo says runtime varies by resolution and settings.
Microphone Choose whether the camera microphone should record. Audio needs differ between game analysis, coaching, and highlights.
Anti Flicker Enable it when artificial lighting produces visible flicker. The setting is intended to reduce flicker under artificial lights.
Timestamp Turn the timestamp on or off according to how the footage will be used. A timestamp can help identify plays but may be unwanted in a clean presentation.
Rotation angle Set the angle required by the mounting orientation. Correct rotation keeps the recorded image upright and framed as intended.

Make these choices before the match rather than changing the camera by hand after recording starts. If you need to adjust a lens-related option, use the monitor phone and the app controls.

Record without disturbing tracking

Start recording only after the card, mount, connection, calibration, position, height, and preferences have been checked. During play, leave the camera body in its calibrated orientation. XbotGo warns that manually adjusting the device after recording begins can produce inaccurate tracking.

Safe operating routine

  1. Stand clear of the tripod and confirm that the legs remain stable.
  2. Use the phone as the monitor rather than touching Falcon.
  3. Keep the phone within a practical range for the app connection and monitoring.
  4. Watch for a low-battery or storage warning.
  5. If the camera must be moved for safety, stop recording first and expect to recalibrate before resuming.

Do not treat automatic tracking as a guarantee that every player or ball will remain visible in every situation. Falcon’s system combines target recognition, pose estimation, and trajectory prediction, according to the XbotGo FAQ. Occlusion by players, structures, or people, rapid changes outside the selected sport mode, and a poorly placed tripod can still affect framing.

How Falcon’s automatic tracking works

XbotGo describes Falcon as using a 6-TOPS AI chipset for real-time recognition. Its tracking system combines target recognition, pose estimation, and trajectory prediction to follow the action. The product information says the camera supports more than 10 sports, including soccer, basketball, football, hockey, tennis, and lacrosse.

In practical terms, the app and camera work as a calibrated system: the camera establishes its orientation, the software identifies the relevant action, and the motorized head changes framing as play develops. That is why the setup sequence matters. A correctly mounted, calibrated camera gives the tracking model a stable starting point; rotating the body manually after calibration invalidates that reference.

Battery, storage, and match planning

Battery planning

The stated battery is 9,600mAh and the approximate runtime is four hours. Because XbotGo qualifies runtime by resolution and settings, use four hours as a planning estimate rather than an exact promise. A high-resolution session, extensive wireless monitoring, or repeated setup activity may reduce the time available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Charge the camera fully before leaving for the venue.
  • Begin the session with the phone charged as well; the phone is required for pairing and monitoring.
  • For events that can run longer than the approximate runtime, arrange a compatible charging plan and a safe way to use it without creating a trip hazard.
  • Stop recording before changing power or storage components.

Storage planning

Falcon accepts microSD cards up to 1,024GB, but the maximum capacity does not tell you how many hours a particular resolution will hold. Recording time depends on the selected resolution and the camera’s video data rate, neither of which is specified in the supplied product information. Check the free-space indicator in the app before the match and offload footage between events.

Use a UHS-I V30-or-faster card for 4K work, and keep a second correctly rated card available if the event schedule makes a single card a point of failure. Format or replace a card only after copying any footage you need to keep.

Common setup problems and fixes

Falcon powers on but will not record

The first check is the microSD card. Falcon cannot record without one. Power down, reseat the card, verify that it is UHS-I V30 or faster, and confirm that it has free space. If the card still is not recognized, stop using it for the event rather than risking a recording that appears to start but does not save correctly.

The phone cannot find Falcon

Keep Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled, verify app version 4.3.0 or later, and start discovery from Device Connections > Add Device. On iPhone, enable Local Network permission. Temporarily remove VPN or ad-blocking interference. The pairing flow is app-based, so a direct connection from the phone’s Wi-Fi settings is not the supported method.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The camera is connected but tracking is inaccurate

Stop and inspect the tripod. If the camera was turned by hand, the tripod was moved after calibration, or the body is loose on the quick-release plate, the calibrated reference no longer matches the physical setup. Re-secure the plate, place the tripod as prompted, and repeat the recording and calibration sequence.

The image flickers under venue lights

Open the recording preferences and enable Anti Flicker. This setting is intended for artificial-light conditions. If the problem persists, check the venue lighting and the selected recording settings before changing the tripod position.

The camera stops during a long event

Check battery and storage first. The approximately four-hour rating varies with resolution and settings, while a full card prevents continued recording. Plan sessions around those two limits and monitor the phone display for warnings.

Optional app services and current terms

XbotGo advertises live streaming, cloud storage, and highlights in its product information. The same information notes that some app features may be charged per match. Availability, pricing, and feature access can change, so check the current terms displayed in the app before relying on a paid or cloud-based workflow. None of those services is required for the basic setup described above: local recording still depends on the correctly installed microSD card.
