A Windows Hello PIN can unlock a passkey even if your model does not have a fingerprint reader.
Check your OmniBook model and Windows version
“OmniBook Ultra” covers more than one model family, and hardware can vary by region and product number. HP’s Japan specifications list an IR camera and face recognition for the 14-kg family; the 14-fd family specification lists those features plus a fingerprint sensor. These are region-specific specifications, not a guarantee for every OmniBook Ultra. Check your full product number against the specifications for your unit: HP OmniBook Ultra 14-kg specifications and HP OmniBook Ultra 14-fd specifications.

Find the product number on the device label, in HP Support Assistant, or in Windows system information. To check Windows, open Settings > System > About. Windows version matters because passkey features and available storage choices can vary.

Windows Hello is the device sign-in layer: it lets you unlock Windows and later approve access to a passkey. HP says fingerprint recognition requires a fingerprint reader and facial recognition requires an infrared (IR) camera. Windows Hello options depend on the sensors in your exact PC; an absent option does not by itself mean Windows is malfunctioning. See HP’s Windows Hello setup guidance.

- Open Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. You can also search Windows for “Sign-in options.”
- Choose PIN (Windows Hello) and follow the prompts if Windows asks you to create a PIN. The PIN is a Windows Hello sign-in method and can serve as a backup for biometric sign-in.
- If Facial recognition (Windows Hello) appears, select it, choose Set up, and follow Windows Security’s instructions while looking toward the camera.
- If Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) appears, select it, choose Set up, and follow the prompts. Lift and reposition the same finger as directed until enrollment completes.
HP describes Windows Hello as a way to sign in to a computer with a look or a touch. The exact biometric choices depend on supported hardware: a PIN remains useful even when face or fingerprint enrollment is unavailable.
Create a passkey for a supported account or service
Setting up Hello does not create a website passkey. A passkey is created for a particular account, website, or app, and the service must support passkeys for the option to appear.

- Open the service’s security or sign-in settings, or start its passkey setup when prompted during sign-in.
- Choose the service’s option to create or save a passkey.
- When Windows displays storage choices, select Windows device or Windows Hello to save the passkey on this OmniBook.
- Complete the Windows Security prompt with your enrolled face, fingerprint, or PIN.
Microsoft’s passkey creation and saving instructions describe the available flow. A work or school administrator may restrict which methods or storage destinations you can use.

Choose where the passkey is stored
A passkey saved with Windows Hello on this PC is local to this Windows device; it does not automatically become available on your other devices. Depending on the service, account, Windows version, and organization policy, you may instead be offered a synced credential manager, a phone, or a physical security key. Microsoft explains the storage options in its passkey saving guide and its Windows passkey documentation.

For cross-device use, select a synced option only if it is offered and suits your needs. Microsoft’s explanation of what passkeys are and why they matter describes the underlying design: a private key is held by the device or credential manager, while the service stores a corresponding public key. After you unlock the private key, it signs a challenge from the service. Microsoft describes passkeys as phishing-resistant; that is the vendor’s security explanation, not a guarantee about every account or implementation.

- Facial recognition is missing: Check whether your exact model has an IR camera, whether the camera privacy switch is open, and whether Windows detects the camera.
- Fingerprint recognition is missing: Verify that your product configuration includes a fingerprint reader. On some models, the sensor may be integrated into the power button.
- The passkey option is missing: The website or app may not support passkeys, or a work or school administrator may limit the available choices. Check that Windows is up to date and review the service’s account settings.
- A local passkey does not appear on another device: It may be stored only on the OmniBook rather than in a synced credential manager.
HP’s setup instructions cover Windows 10 and Windows 11, but menu labels can change with Windows updates. If an option remains unavailable, check the exact product number and current Windows prompts before concluding that a sensor is defective.
