What a WiiM multi-room group does
A WiiM Home multi-room group combines two or more WiiM devices for synchronized playback. The first device you select is the lead. It receives the source audio, while the follower devices play the lead’s stream in the other rooms. The lead can be a WiiM speaker or a WiiM streamer connected to an amplifier or powered speakers.

The setup is different from simply playing the same service separately on several devices. A group gives you one playback session and shared controls, while still allowing individual volume adjustments. It is also different from an Alexa or Google Cast speaker group: WiiM documents those platform groups as network-input workflows, whereas a WiiM Home group can distribute supported physical inputs connected to the lead.

At least two compatible WiiM devices
Prepare two or more WiiM products. WiiM’s support catalog includes the WiiM Mini, WiiM Pro, WiiM Pro Plus, WiiM Amp models, WiiM Ultra, WiiM Sound, WiiM Sound Lite, and WiiM Edition speakers. The list does not mean every model has every input or output. Check the manual for each exact model before buying or wiring it.

One shared network
Connect every WiiM device and the phone or tablet running WiiM Home to the same local network. A device on a guest network, a different router, or an isolated wireless band may not appear in the app. Complete initial setup for each WiiM device individually before trying to group them.
The WiiM Home app
Install WiiM Home on your mobile device and sign in or complete the app’s device-discovery prompts as required. Keep the app open during grouping so you can confirm that all rooms are visible in the Devices tab.
A source and a lead-device plan
For ordinary streaming, decide which room should be the lead. For a physical source, the choice is more important: connect the TV, turntable, CD player, or PC to the WiiM device that will lead the group. Verify that this device has the required HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial, line-in, or other input. Input availability varies by model.

Set up a WiiM Home multi-room group
- Prepare the devices. Power on all WiiM units, finish their individual setup, and connect them and your phone or tablet to the same network.
- Connect an external source, if you have one. Plug the source into the intended lead. WiiM’s TV guidance lists HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial, or line connections depending on the television and WiiM model. For a turntable, CD player, or PC, use the input supported by the selected unit and any required phono preamp or adapter.
- Open Devices in WiiM Home. Confirm that every room you want to use appears in the device list.
- Open the lead’s group control. On the device that should receive the source, tap the chain-link icon at the top right.
- Add followers. Select the other WiiM devices that should play the lead’s audio, then tap Done. The new group appears in the Devices tab.
- Start playback. Select the group in Devices and play from WiiM Home. WiiM also describes sending playback from supported third-party services, including Spotify and Qobuz, but support is app-specific rather than universal.
- Set levels and timing. Use the group volume control for a common level, or open individual device controls to trim a particular room. If television picture and sound need alignment, or if the group needs stability adjustments, use Group Audio Delay. WiiM does not prescribe one delay value for every television, network, or model, so adjust it while watching and listening to your own system.
The lead remains the source for that group. If you later switch to another physical input, connect it to the lead or rebuild the group around the WiiM device that has the desired input.
Remove rooms or return to separate playback
Open the group control again, uncheck the devices you want to remove, and confirm. The remaining devices can continue as a smaller group, while removed units return to independent playback. A group must contain at least two devices; WiiM’s PC-app guidance says that reducing a group to one device causes it to disband automatically.

Choose the right kind of group
WiiM offers several grouping paths. Choose based on the source, the app you want to control, and whether the room combination should be saved for reuse.
| Group type | Best use | Inputs WiiM documents | Control surface | Important limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WiiM Home multi-room group | WiiM-to-WiiM playback, including a supported physical source connected to the lead | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Line In, Optical, and HDMI ARC are listed as examples; exact availability is model-specific | WiiM Home; some supported third-party music apps | Some music apps do not support WiiM multi-room playback; attached Bluetooth speakers may not stay in sync |
| WiiM persistent group | A named combination of rooms you use repeatedly | Follows the capabilities of the selected WiiM devices and grouping workflow | WiiM Home and Spotify | WiiM says persistent groups do not appear in AirPlay, TIDAL, Alexa, or Google Home |
| Alexa speaker group | Network playback controlled through Alexa when that ecosystem is your preferred interface | Network inputs only, according to WiiM’s support guidance | Alexa | WiiM documents that the listed physical inputs cannot be relayed over Wi-Fi through this group type |
| Google Cast speaker group | Network playback controlled through Google Home and Cast | Network inputs only, according to WiiM’s support guidance | Google Home and Cast-enabled apps | Assign devices to a room in Google Home first; physical inputs are not handled like WiiM Home multi-room inputs |
Save a recurring combination with a persistent group
A persistent group is a saved preset rather than a different audio transport. It is useful when the same rooms are usually combined, such as a kitchen and living room every evening.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Open WiiM Home and go to Devices > Groups.
- Choose the WiiM devices that belong together.
- Give the combination a recognizable name and save it.
- Select the named group from WiiM Home when you want that room combination again.
WiiM’s persistent-group article, modified October 23, 2025, says these saved groups can also be selected in Spotify. It specifically excludes AirPlay, TIDAL, Alexa, and Google Home, so do not expect the preset to appear in those control surfaces.
Use a TV as the source
For television audio, connect the TV to the lead WiiM device using a connection supported by both products. WiiM’s TV guide, modified May 19, 2025, gives HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial, and line as examples, with the exact choice dependent on the television and WiiM model.
- Enable the TV’s audio output that corresponds to the cable you used.
- On the lead WiiM device, select the matching input and confirm that sound plays in the lead room by itself.
- Open WiiM Home, tap the lead device’s chain-link icon, add the other rooms, and tap Done.
- Start the TV audio through the group and adjust Group Audio Delay if the picture and sound do not line up.
Do not assume that a television’s ARC port provides the same features on every WiiM model. Check whether the selected unit supports ARC input and whether your television’s output settings need PCM or another compatible format.

Use a turntable, CD player, or PC
Turntable
Connect the turntable to a compatible line input. A turntable without a built-in phono preamp needs one before the WiiM line input; the WiiM grouping instructions do not remove that electrical requirement. Test the lead room first, then create the group.

Use the digital or analog connection supported by both the CD player and the lead WiiM model. Select that input in WiiM Home, verify clean playback locally, and only then add the follower rooms. This sequence separates a cabling or input-selection problem from a grouping problem.
PC
Feed the computer into a supported input on the lead, or use a network playback method supported by your software. WiiM also provides a PC app that can create and modify groups from its Devices page. The same minimum applies: a group needs two or more devices, and reducing it to one disbands it automatically.
Stream from WiiM Home or a music service
For network music, select the group in WiiM Home and start playback. WiiM names Spotify and Qobuz as examples of third-party apps that can send playback, but it warns that compatibility is not universal. If an app shows individual WiiM devices but not the group, use WiiM Home or check that app’s current WiiM multi-room support rather than assuming the speakers are defective.
A persistent group has a narrower documented control surface than an ordinary WiiM Home group: WiiM says it is available in WiiM Home and Spotify, not AirPlay, TIDAL, Alexa, or Google Home. Choose the ordinary group when you need to build a combination on demand from WiiM Home, and choose a persistent group when a repeatable preset matters more than broad app visibility.

Set up Alexa or Google Cast grouping when network playback is enough
Alexa
Alexa grouping is appropriate when the source is a network service and you want Alexa’s room or group controls. WiiM’s support article on multi-room use with Echo and other products, modified December 31, 2024, says these groups support network inputs only. A TV, turntable, CD player, or PC physically connected to a WiiM device should therefore use a WiiM Home group instead when you need that source in multiple rooms.
Google Cast
For Google Cast, create the speaker group in Google Home and assign the WiiM devices to rooms first. WiiM’s step-by-step article, modified May 6, 2026, likewise describes network-input use and does not treat physical WiiM inputs as interchangeable with WiiM Home multi-room routing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Understand quality and synchronization limits
WiiM’s multi-room guide, modified July 23, 2026, states: “Currently, WiiM Multi-room music playback is limited to 48 kHz / 16-bit audio quality.” That is a vendor-published current limit, not an independent measurement of every device or network. Higher-resolution source material may therefore be converted for multi-room playback; the guide says higher-quality support may come through future updates.
WiiM also warns that a Bluetooth speaker attached to a WiiM device may be out of sync with the other speakers. For room-to-room consistency, use WiiM devices on the supported network path rather than assuming a Bluetooth-connected speaker will match timing.
Television alignment is a separate issue from music quality. Use Group Audio Delay when necessary, but do not expect one universal setting or claim independently verified zero delay. Room acoustics, television processing, wireless conditions, and the connected models all affect what you hear.

Troubleshoot the problems that occur most often
A device is missing from Devices
- Confirm that the missing WiiM unit is powered on and has completed individual setup.
- Check that the phone, lead, and follower use the same network rather than a guest or isolated network.
- Close and reopen WiiM Home, then wait for device discovery to finish.
- Verify that the unit has not been renamed or moved to another account or network.
The group is created but followers are silent
- Play the source on the lead alone to confirm the input is selected and the cable is working.
- Check each follower’s volume and mute state.
- Remove and re-add the follower from the chain-link control.
- If the source is a third-party app, test the same group from WiiM Home because app support is not universal.
The TV picture and sound do not match
- Confirm that the television is outputting through the intended HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial, or line connection.
- Test the lead by itself to identify TV processing delay before adding other rooms.
- Adjust Group Audio Delay gradually while watching a familiar program.
- Remember that a Bluetooth-connected speaker can introduce a separate synchronization problem.
The group disappears after editing
Check the number of selected devices. WiiM’s PC guidance says that modifying a group down to one device disbands it automatically. Recreate it with at least two WiiM devices.
A physical source works in WiiM Home but not in Alexa or Google Cast
This is expected under WiiM’s documented group distinctions. Alexa and Google Cast groups are described as network-input workflows, while WiiM Home is the route for supported physical inputs connected to the lead.
Plan an expandable system
Start with the room where the main source lives and make that device the lead. Add rooms one at a time, testing each follower before changing the group again. If you expect to share a turntable or television, buy the lead based on its required input first; a smaller streamer in another room can be a follower even when it lacks that source connection.
When considering a WiiM Mini streamer or another WiiM product, compare the exact model’s inputs, outputs, network features, and speaker requirements with your planned rooms. A WiiM streamer may need an amplifier or powered speakers, while an all-in-one WiiM speaker does not. The product families listed in WiiM’s support catalog are not interchangeable specifications, so use the model manual for the final wiring decision.
Practical layouts
Streaming music in two rooms
Put a WiiM device in each room, connect both to the same network, choose the first room as lead, add the second from the chain-link control, and start playback from WiiM Home or a compatible service. Use group volume for a shared level and individual controls if one room is louder.
Television in the living room, music in the kitchen
Connect the TV to the living-room WiiM device and make it the lead. Add the kitchen device as a follower only after TV audio works locally. Adjust Group Audio Delay for lip-sync, then save a persistent group only if this exact room combination is used often and Spotify or WiiM Home is an acceptable control surface.
Turntable shared across the home
Connect the turntable and any needed phono preamp to a WiiM device with a suitable line input. Make that unit the lead, verify the turntable locally, then add the other rooms in WiiM Home. Avoid relying on Alexa or Google Cast grouping for this physical source because WiiM documents those groups as network-input only.

- Every device appears in WiiM Home and remains on the same network.
- The lead has the source connection and the correct input selected.
- At least two devices are selected in the group.
- Your preferred playback app actually exposes WiiM multi-room groups.
- Group volume, individual volume, and TV delay behave as expected.
- You have accounted for WiiM’s stated 48 kHz / 16-bit multi-room limit and avoided Bluetooth speakers where tight synchronization is essential.
With those conditions met, WiiM Home is the most flexible route for combining WiiM rooms and supported physical sources. Persistent groups are convenient saved presets, while Alexa and Google Cast are better treated as separate network-streaming workflows rather than replacements for WiiM Home input sharing.
