To rotate bhajans weekly, update a playlist in OBS before each broadcast, then schedule and start the live event in YouTube Studio. OBS can loop a single recording or a sequence of files, but playlist looping does not automatically replace the list each week. The straightforward documented workflow is a manual weekly update, followed by a test and a rights check for every recording and visual.
Choose the right OBS source for your bhajan playlist
Use a regular Media Source if you want to repeat one recording. For several audio or video files in a chosen order, use OBS’s VLC Video source. OBS’s official source guide says VLC must be installed for the VLC source to appear; match its architecture to OBS—for example, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The guide was published in 2022, so check the labels in your installed OBS version if they differ.

One recording that repeats
- In OBS, select or create the scene you will use for the livestream.
- Add a Media Source and select the recording you have permission to use.
- Enable the source’s loop option, then play it in OBS and confirm it restarts as expected.
A playlist of multiple recordings
- Install VLC if it is not already installed, ensuring it matches OBS’s architecture.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene.
- Add the bhajan files for the current week in the desired order.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a planned devotional sequence. Turn it on only if you want a randomized order.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the full set should repeat; test the transition from the last item back to the first.
OBS documents playlist order, shuffle, looping, and source visibility behavior. It does not establish a calendar setting that replaces the active playlist every week. Looping repeats the list currently loaded; it is not a weekly rotation scheduler.
Update the playlist each week
For a dependable weekly rotation without a separately configured scheduler, treat each week’s playlist as a manual update. Keep the authorized files for that week in a clearly named folder or list, then update the VLC Video source before the event.

Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
- Choose the recordings and visuals for the upcoming week and confirm you have the necessary rights for each.
- In OBS, edit the VLC Video source playlist: remove or replace the previous week’s entries and add this week’s files in sequence.
- Check the displayed order and play through the items, including the final-to-first transition if the playlist loops.
- Save the scene collection or profile with a name that identifies the week, so the intended setup is easy to recognize.
- Before going live, reopen the scene and verify that the correct playlist is still loaded.
You can configure a separate automation or scheduler, but the OBS playlist and YouTube scheduling instructions described here do not establish automatic weekly playlist replacement. Test any independent automation before relying on it for a public event.
Schedule and deliver the event through YouTube Studio
OBS handles playback and sends the encoded feed. YouTube Studio schedules the event and provides the connection details used by OBS. YouTube’s interface can change, so follow the current labels in Live Control Room.
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live, then use the Manage tab to schedule the event. Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream.
- Set and verify the event’s title, date and time, and privacy. Check reused settings rather than assuming they match this week’s event.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into OBS’s streaming connection settings. Treat the key like a password: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not share it publicly.
- Start the encoder in OBS and inspect the incoming preview in Live Control Room. When the event is ready, start the YouTube event.
Scheduling can make the livestream appear as upcoming, allow viewers to set reminders, and provide a watch URL to share. Scheduling the event does not itself load or replace the playlist in OBS.

Run a preflight test before the public stream
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. Use that lead time to catch connection, playback, and presentation problems rather than starting at the last moment.
- Playlist: Confirm this week’s files and sequence are loaded, each file plays, shuffle is set as intended, and looping behaves correctly.
- Sound and picture: Inspect the Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video quality. Confirm the intended visual is present and that audio is audible and not unexpectedly interrupted.
- Event: Verify the scheduled title, date and time, privacy, and watch page. Confirm the page is accessible to the intended audience.
- Test stream: If you are unsure about the setup, run an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream before the public event.
- Rights: Confirm permission for both the stream and, if you plan to keep an archive, the archived use.
Check rights for the specific bhajan recording and visuals
A traditional composition or devotional song is not automatically a rights-cleared recording. Rights can differ for the underlying composition, a particular sound recording, a performance or arrangement, and accompanying images or video. Confirm that the permission you have covers livestreaming and any planned archive or monetization. This is a practical checklist, not legal advice.
YouTube describes safe music as music in the public domain or music for which you have permission. A label such as “free” does not by itself prevent a Content ID claim. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it. If you have a license but a match still occurs, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Resolve rights questions before the event rather than assuming a recording is usable because it is devotional or widely shared.

Troubleshoot common rotation and livestream problems
VLC Video is missing from OBS sources
Install VLC and make sure its architecture matches OBS. The OBS guide notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Restart OBS after installation and check the source list again.

Open the VLC Video source and inspect the file order. Turn off Shuffle Playlist when the sequence matters, then test playback. Confirm you updated the source in the scene collection that will actually be used for the event.
The playlist stops instead of repeating
Check that Loop Playlist is enabled for the VLC Video source, then test what happens at the end of the list. For one repeating file, check the loop option on its Media Source instead.

This week’s playlist did not replace last week’s
Playlist looping repeats the currently loaded list; it does not perform a calendar-based weekly swap. Manually update the source before the event and verify the new files and order. If you configured separate automation, test that it changes the active OBS playlist as intended.
YouTube does not show the expected incoming feed
Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the scheduled event, then confirm the encoder is running and inspect Live Control Room’s incoming preview. Keep the key private; if you suspect it has been exposed, review the stream settings in YouTube Studio and replace or reset it using the current controls there.

Stop and resolve the rights issue before attempting another public broadcast. Check permission for the specific recording and visuals, not only the underlying song. If you have a license and believe the match is mistaken, YouTube’s guidance says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a bhajan video that someone else uploaded if I credit them?
Credit alone does not establish permission to livestream or archive a recording. Check the rights for the specific recording and visuals, and confirm that the permission covers your planned use.
