How to Set Up the WiiM Bar Soundbar with Your TV and Wi‑Fi

To set up the product marketed by WiiM as the WiiM Bar (often searched for as the “WiiM soundbar”), connect its HDMI eARC port to your TV’s port labeled HDMI ARC/eARC, select the Bar as the TV’s audio output, and enable HDMI-CEC. Then use the WiiM Home app to join Wi‑Fi, install any available firmware update, and pair the remote.

If your TV has no ARC/eARC socket, use an optical cable instead. Optical works as a fallback, but the TV remote cannot adjust the Bar’s volume through that connection.

What you need before starting

WiiM’s official setup guide lists four essentials: the WiiM Bar, a phone or tablet, a Wi‑Fi network, and a TV. You will also need an HDMI cable for the recommended ARC/eARC connection. If your television lacks ARC/eARC, use an optical audio cable instead.

  • WiiM Bar and its power cable
  • TV with an HDMI ARC/eARC port, or an optical audio output if ARC/eARC is unavailable
  • Phone or tablet with the WiiM Home app installed
  • Wi‑Fi credentials for the network you want the Bar to use
  • HDMI cable for ARC/eARC, or an optical cable for the fallback method

Before connecting anything, identify the labels on both devices. On the television, look directly beside the HDMI sockets for “ARC” or “eARC”; the label may be printed in small type. On the Bar, use the socket marked HDMI eARC. A standard HDMI socket is not interchangeable with the television’s ARC/eARC port for this purpose.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Place the Bar in front of the television, leaving its front and top speakers unobstructed. Do not cover the TV’s infrared receiver with the Bar or another object, because that can interfere with remote commands. The Bar can also be wall-mounted with the included brackets and screws; use the mounting directions in the included user guide rather than guessing the bracket position.

An Ethernet connection and a WiiM Sub Pro or compatible WiiM surround devices are optional. Neither is required for the basic TV and Wi‑Fi setup. Have the phone or tablet available throughout onboarding, since the app handles network credentials, firmware checking, and remote pairing.

Choose the right TV connection

Use HDMI ARC/eARC whenever the television provides it. The TV port must be specifically labeled ARC or eARC; an ordinary HDMI input or output will not send the TV’s sound to the Bar. WiiM’s TV connection guidance states: “Ensure you use the HDMI ARC/eARC port on your TV. Other HDMI ports won’t transmit sound to the WiiM Bar.”

Connection When to use it TV control Formats listed by WiiM
HDMI ARC/eARC Recommended when the TV has an ARC/eARC-labeled port Supports TV-remote control through HDMI-CEC when CEC is enabled PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS-HD and DTS:X; up to 24-bit/192 kHz according to WiiM’s input guide
Optical In Fallback for a TV without HDMI ARC/eARC The TV remote cannot adjust the Bar’s volume over optical PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS; up to 24-bit/192 kHz according to WiiM’s input guide

The format lists are manufacturer-stated input capabilities, not an independent performance test. Optical does not carry every format listed for HDMI in WiiM’s guide. Thus, the choice is practical as well as technical: HDMI is preferable when you want the broadest listed format support and integrated TV controls, while optical is useful when the television has no ARC/eARC socket.

Set up the WiiM Bar over HDMI ARC/eARC

1. Connect the cable to the labeled ports

  1. Find the HDMI socket on the television labeled ARC or eARC. Labels vary by TV, but the port itself must identify ARC/eARC.
  2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to that TV port.
  3. Connect the other end to the WiiM Bar’s HDMI eARC port. Do not use one of the Bar’s other sockets for this TV-audio link.
  4. Connect the Bar to power and turn on both the Bar and the television.

The HDMI cable carries TV audio and, when the TV and Bar negotiate HDMI-CEC correctly, allows compatible TV controls to operate the Bar. A cable connected to an ordinary HDMI port cannot substitute for ARC/eARC. If you have other HDMI equipment attached to the TV, leave those connections in place and reserve the ARC/eARC-labeled socket for the Bar.

2. Select the TV audio output

Open the television’s sound or audio settings and choose WiiM Bar as the audio output. The exact menu wording differs by manufacturer, so look for labels such as Audio Output, Sound Output, Receiver, or External Speaker. Some televisions switch automatically after detecting the Bar; still verify the selection rather than assuming the handshake completed.

Enable HDMI-CEC in the TV settings. WiiM lists common brand names for this feature:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Samsung: AnyNet+
  • LG: Simplink
  • Sony: Bravia Sync

CEC is the control channel that lets compatible TV power and volume commands reach the Bar. ARC audio can work while CEC is disabled, so check this setting separately if sound plays but the television remote does not control volume or power.

If the TV offers a digital-audio format choice of Auto or Pass Through, WiiM recommends Pass Through when both choices are available. This setting sends the supported audio stream to the Bar instead of forcing the TV to convert it first. Menu names and available choices vary by television model; use Auto if Pass Through is not offered.

3. Select the Bar’s HDMI input

Use the WiiM remote or WiiM Home controls to select HDMI eARC as the Bar’s source. With the TV output set to WiiM Bar and the correct eARC cable path connected, start a TV program or another source connected to the television and confirm that sound comes from the Bar.

If the Bar was previously used with another input, selecting HDMI eARC is important even when the cable is connected correctly. Check the source indicator whenever you switch between TV audio and another Bar input. Once the source and output agree, test both ordinary stereo programming and a streamed program so you can confirm that the TV is forwarding audio consistently.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use optical audio when the TV has no ARC/eARC

Optical is the compatibility fallback for televisions without an ARC/eARC port. It provides TV sound, but it does not provide the same control behavior as HDMI-CEC. Choose this route when the television has an Optical Out socket and no suitable ARC/eARC connection.

  1. Connect an optical cable from the TV’s Optical Out to the WiiM Bar’s Optical In.
  2. In the TV sound menu, select the optical or external digital-audio output instead of the built-in TV speakers.
  3. On the Bar, select Optical In as the source.
  4. Play TV audio and adjust volume with the WiiM remote or WiiM Home controls.

WiiM’s input guide states: “The WiiM Bar’s volume cannot be adjusted via TV remote when using the optical connection.” This is a limitation of the connection method, not a fault with your cable. Optical also has a narrower listed format set than HDMI ARC/eARC: PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS, up to 24-bit/192 kHz according to WiiM.

After selecting optical output, mute or disable the television’s internal speakers if the set continues playing through them. Then confirm that the Bar source is Optical In. If you later add an ARC/eARC-capable television, move to HDMI to regain HDMI-CEC control and the broader listed input-format set.

Connect the WiiM Bar to Wi‑Fi in WiiM Home

1. Put the Bar into setup mode

Plugging in the Bar should start Wi‑Fi setup mode automatically. The official setup guide describes the status LED as flashing slowly in white. If setup mode does not begin, press and hold the Bar’s Play button for three seconds.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do this before opening the app if the Bar has already been configured or if its setup process was interrupted. The slow white flash is the useful visual check that the device is ready to be discovered. Keep the Bar powered while the phone is connecting and while the app is applying settings.

2. Add the Bar in the app

  1. Install and open the WiiM Home app on your phone or tablet.
  2. When the WiiM Bar appears, tap Set Up.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to choose your Wi‑Fi network and enter its password.
  4. Allow the app to check for firmware updates. Keep the Bar powered during this process.
  5. Complete the prompt to pair the WiiM Bar Remote.

If the Bar is not shown automatically, open Devices > Add Device in WiiM Home and start the discovery process there. Keep the phone or tablet close to the Bar while onboarding and make sure it is connected to the Wi‑Fi network you intend the Bar to use. Avoid unplugging the Bar, closing the app, or changing networks while setup is in progress.

The app’s first-run flow combines several jobs: joining Wi‑Fi, checking whether firmware is current, and pairing the remote. Completing all three steps gives you a known baseline before troubleshooting TV audio. The guide does not specify a fixed update duration, so wait for the app to report completion rather than relying on a particular number of minutes.

Finish the first-run configuration

Confirm the source and output

After Wi‑Fi onboarding, verify that the Bar’s selected source matches your physical cable: HDMI eARC for an ARC/eARC connection or Optical In for an optical connection. On the TV, confirm that the external WiiM Bar output remains selected rather than the built-in speakers.

Check remote behavior

With HDMI ARC/eARC, HDMI-CEC should allow compatible TV volume and power commands to control the Bar. If those commands do not work but audio does, revisit the TV’s CEC setting and its brand-specific name. With optical, plan to use the WiiM remote or the app for volume because TV-remote volume control is not available through that input.

Keep the Bar’s front area and the TV’s infrared receiver unobstructed during testing. A blocked receiver can look like a pairing or CEC problem even though the audio connection is working correctly.

Confirm firmware completion

WiiM Home checks for firmware updates during setup. Let the app finish that check before unplugging the Bar or closing the setup flow. The guide does not specify a fixed update duration, so do not treat a particular number of minutes as a guarantee.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Audio formats and connection trade-offs

The choice between HDMI ARC/eARC and optical affects more than the cable. It determines which input formats are listed as supported and whether HDMI-CEC can provide TV-remote control.

Decision point HDMI ARC/eARC Optical
TV requirement TV must have a port labeled ARC or eARC TV needs an Optical Out socket
Bar socket HDMI eARC Optical In
TV-remote volume Available through HDMI-CEC when enabled and supported by the TV Not available; use the WiiM remote or app
Listed input formats PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS-HD and DTS:X PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS
WiiM-stated maximum quality Up to 24-bit/192 kHz Up to 24-bit/192 kHz
Best use Primary connection for TVs with ARC/eARC Compatibility fallback for TVs without ARC/eARC

“Up to 24-bit/192 kHz” is a specification in WiiM’s input guide. It does not mean every television, streaming service, or program will deliver that resolution. The listed formats describe what WiiM identifies for each input; they are not a promise that every source device will output each format.

Troubleshoot a WiiM Bar with no sound

When using HDMI ARC/eARC

  • Check both ends of the cable. One end must be in the TV port labeled ARC/eARC, and the other must be in the Bar’s HDMI eARC port.
  • In the TV settings, verify that ARC/eARC audio output is enabled and that WiiM Bar is the selected audio output.
  • On the Bar, select HDMI eARC as the source.
  • Set the TV’s digital audio format to Pass Through when that option is available alongside Auto.
  • Power-cycle both devices after correcting the settings so they can renegotiate the ARC/eARC connection.

The most common mistake is using a nearby HDMI socket that lacks the ARC/eARC label. If the TV menu never shows the WiiM Bar as an output, recheck the port before replacing a cable or changing audio formats.

When using optical

  • Confirm the cable runs from TV Optical Out to Bar Optical In.
  • Set the TV’s audio output to its optical or external digital output.
  • Select Optical In as the Bar source.
  • Do not use the lack of TV-remote volume control as a sign that optical audio has failed; WiiM documents that limitation for this connection.

Optical requires the TV’s output selection and the Bar’s source selection to agree. If the television is still set to its internal speakers, the cable can be correctly seated and still produce no Bar audio.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When the Bar is not discovered by WiiM Home

  • Confirm that the Bar is powered and its LED is flashing slowly in white, indicating setup mode.
  • If setup mode did not start, hold the Bar’s Play button for three seconds.
  • In WiiM Home, open Devices > Add Device rather than waiting for the automatic discovery card.
  • Keep the phone or tablet near the Bar and connected to the Wi‑Fi network you want to configure.

If discovery still does not appear, return to the setup-mode step and watch the LED while opening the app. The setup guide does not require Ethernet for basic onboarding, so do not treat an Ethernet cable as mandatory.

When volume or power commands do not work

For HDMI, check HDMI-CEC. The feature may be disabled even when ARC audio itself works, and the menu label can be AnyNet+, Simplink, Bravia Sync, or another manufacturer-specific name. For optical, TV-remote volume control is not supported through the connection, so use the WiiM remote or WiiM Home.

When audio and video are out of sync

Use the television’s audio synchronization control. Manufacturers may call it A/V sync, Audio delay, or a similar term. WiiM’s HDMI guidance notes that the available name and location vary by TV brand, including Sony, LG, and Samsung. Adjust the delay in small increments while watching speech until the sound matches the picture. The control belongs on the television side; its exact range and direction differ by model.

Expand beyond the basic soundbar setup

WiiM says the Bar can be expanded into a 5.1.2 system with a WiiM Sub Pro and compatible WiiM surround devices. Every device in that arrangement must be set up on the same Wi‑Fi or Ethernet network. Expansion is optional and does not change the TV-to-Bar connection steps above; establish the Bar’s basic audio and Wi‑Fi operation first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not add expansion hardware as part of the initial diagnosis. First confirm that the standalone Bar receives TV audio, responds to its remote, and appears in WiiM Home. Only then add compatible surround devices through the appropriate WiiM setup process.

Frequently asked questions

Which HDMI port should I use on the TV?

Use the socket specifically labeled HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC. Connect it to the WiiM Bar’s HDMI eARC port. An ordinary HDMI socket will not transmit TV sound to the Bar.

Can I use optical if my TV has no ARC?

Yes. Connect TV Optical Out to the Bar Optical In, select optical output on the TV, and select Optical In on the Bar. Volume must be controlled with the WiiM remote or WiiM Home because the TV remote cannot adjust Bar volume over optical.

Does the Bar need Ethernet for setup?

No. WiiM lists Ethernet as optional for the basic setup. A phone or tablet, Wi‑Fi network, TV, and WiiM Bar are the required core items.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What does a slowly flashing white LED mean?

It indicates Wi‑Fi setup mode. If the mode does not start automatically after powering the Bar, hold its Play button for three seconds.

What if WiiM Home does not find the Bar?

In the app, open Devices > Add Device. Confirm the Bar is powered, flashing slowly in white, and that the phone is near the Bar and connected to the network you intend to use.

Why is there sound but no TV-remote volume control?

With optical, this is expected: WiiM states that Bar volume cannot be adjusted through the TV remote on that connection. With HDMI, enable HDMI-CEC and check the TV’s brand-specific CEC setting.

Should I choose Auto or Pass Through?

If the TV offers both options, WiiM recommends Pass Through. If Pass Through is unavailable, use Auto and continue with the other connection checks.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What formats does HDMI support?

WiiM lists PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS-HD, and DTS:X for HDMI eARC, with input quality up to 24-bit/192 kHz. Optical has a narrower listed set: PCM, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS.
