Connect the Shure MV6 to your computer or mobile device over USB-C, select it as the input in your call or streaming app, and use Shure MOTIV Mix on a computer to adjust gain, speech processing, and headphone monitoring. Finish with a short test in the app you plan to use: settings in MOTIV Mix do not replace choosing the correct input in the destination app.
1. Connect the MV6 and check its status light
- Connect the MV6 to your computer, phone, or tablet with the included USB-C cable. Shure’s MV6 User Guide describes USB-C as the connection to the device.
- For headphone monitoring, plug headphones into the microphone’s 3.5 mm monitor output. That jack is for listening, not for connecting the microphone to your computer.
- Check the mute button: it pulses amber while connecting, turns green when the USB-C connection succeeds, and is solid red when muted. If it keeps pulsing amber, Shure advises unplugging and reconnecting the microphone.
The MV6 is a dynamic, cardioid USB microphone with onboard processing and a headphone output. Shure lists a 50 Hz–15 kHz frequency response and conversion at 16- or 24-bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz; these are specifications, not independent evidence of call quality.

2. Configure the microphone in MOTIV Mix
- On a computer, install and open Shure MOTIV Mix, then connect the MV6.
- If prompted, allow the app to access the external microphone.
- In the Sources panel, select the MV6. Open its settings with the gear icon to access microphone controls.
Shure says the MV6 remembers its last-used settings. MOTIV Mix is the desktop configuration path; the available controls and compatibility depend on the device and software version.

Start with Auto Level
Auto Level is enabled by default and automatically adjusts gain. It is a straightforward starting point for calls or streams if you do not want to set the input level yourself.
#1 Best Overall
- PRO SOUND FROM DAY ONE: Built for first-time streamers and creators who want professional audio without the learning curve; simply plug in and start creating.
- PERSONALIZE YOUR SOUND WITH MOTIV MIX: Connect to Shure MOTIV desktop & mobile apps to unlock additional control to personalize your sound.
- STREAM READY OUT OF THE BOX: Includes a desktop stand and USB-C cable, giving new creators everything needed to start streaming, chatting, or recording immediately. Upgrading from a headset mic? You'll feel the professional-quality difference right away.
- CLEAR VOICE BY DESIGN: Voice Isolation Technology captures your voice clearly, while adjustable Real-time Denoiser reduces distracting room noise and Digital Popper Stopper reduces harsh plosives for clean audio.
- PERSONALIZE YOUR SOUND: Adjustable Auto Level Mode lets you set your own gain response, so you stay balanced whether you're speaking softly or celebrating on stream, while 5-band EQ lets you shape your tone in games.
Use Manual for direct control
Manual mode lets you adjust gain with a slider. Speak at your normal call or stream volume while making adjustments, then check the input level in the app where you will actually use the microphone. The correct level depends on your voice and setup; the Shure guide does not specify a universal slider value.
4. Tune speech processing without expecting a silent room
MOTIV Mix provides several processing controls: Real-time Denoiser, Digital Popper Stopper, tone choices of Dark, Natural, or Bright, and a high-pass filter at 75 Hz or 150 Hz. Shure describes Auto Level, Denoiser, and Popper Stopper as optimized for speech, and the Denoiser as reducing unwanted noise. These features can help shape speech and reduce some unwanted sounds, but they are not a guarantee that a noisy room will sound silent.

- MAKE YOUR VOICE THE CENTERPIECE: Whether you're gaming, livestreaming, podcasting, or chatting with teammates, the MV6 delivers focused vocal clarity with simple plug-and-play USB-C setup for PC and Mac.
- FOCUSED VOICE ISOLATION TECHNOLOGY: Dynamic cardioid microphone with Voice Isolation Technology helps reduce keyboard clicks, fan noise, room echo, and background distractions for focused vocal capture
- SMART DSP AUDIO PROCESSING: Features Auto Level Mode, Real-Time Denoiser, and Digital Popper Stopper technology to maintain balanced, polished, and stream-ready audio in real time
- ZERO-LATENCY MONITORING & TAP-TO-MUTE CONTROL: Built-in 3.5mm headphone output enables real-time monitoring without delay, while the tap-to-mute button provides quick microphone control during streams and chats
- USB-C CONNECTIVITY & MOTIV MIX COMPATIBILITY: USB-C connection supports simple desktop setup, while the Shure MOTIV Mix desktop app allows customization of monitor mix and microphone audio settings
Make changes while listening to a short recording or test call. If processing makes your voice sound less natural, reduce or turn off the relevant effect rather than assuming more processing is always better.

The MV6’s 3.5 mm output provides latency-free monitoring of the microphone signal. In MOTIV Mix, use the Monitor Mix sliders to balance microphone playback against computer audio in your headphones. If you also enable monitoring in the call or streaming app, listen for doubled or delayed voice and turn off one monitoring path if needed.

Shure’s MOTIV Mix guide recommends keeping a microphone 6–12 inches from your mouth to help avoid unwanted room reflections and reverberation. This is general close-mic guidance, not an MV6-specific tested optimum. Keep your distance steady and listen to a short sample before going live.
6. Select the MV6 in your call or streaming app
In the audio input or microphone setting of the application you intend to use, choose the MV6. The exact menu names and routing behavior vary by app, so use that app’s own audio settings rather than relying on a universal menu path. Make a brief test call or recording and confirm that the app receives your voice at a usable level.
