For most everyday shots, leave the Galaxy S25 Ultra in Photo mode and let the camera choose its settings. Switch to Portrait for a background effect, Night for dim scenes, and Expert RAW when you want manual controls and plan to edit the files afterward. Clean the camera glass and keep the phone steady in low light before changing settings.
Choose the right camera mode for the scene

Set up for everyday photos
Start in Photo mode
Open the Camera app and choose Photo. Samsung describes this mode as letting the camera determine picture settings. Frame the subject, select the lens or zoom option that gives you the composition you want, and check focus before taking the picture.

The S25 Ultra’s manufacturer-listed rear cameras are a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, and a 50MP 5x telephoto camera. Those are specifications, not a guarantee that the highest resolution or greatest zoom will produce a better photo in every scene. Choose the view that fits your subject and composition rather than treating one setting as universally best.
Use Portrait when you want a background effect
Select Portrait when you want the phone to add and adjust a background effect. Review the preview and the subject’s edges before capturing; the mode does not guarantee the same result for every subject or background.

Take clearer photos in low light
Use Night mode and steady the phone
In a dim scene, choose Night mode if it is available in the current camera layout. Samsung says the mode responds to lighting by adjusting exposure and white balance. Keep the phone still through the capture; a tripod or stable phone mount is an optional aid, not a requirement.
If you do not see a Night control, the available interface and settings may differ with software version, carrier, or mode layout. Samsung cautions that camera screens and settings can vary.

Use Expert RAW for deliberate capture and editing
Open Expert RAW
- Open Camera.
- Tap More, then Expert RAW.
- If prompted, download Expert RAW separately and follow the on-screen setup.
Expert RAW provides controls including ISO, shutter speed, focus, white balance, and exposure. Samsung describes its output as JPEG plus 16-bit Linear DNG RAW files for editing. The manual settings depend on the scene, and RAW is most useful when you are prepared to work on the image afterward; there is no single ISO or shutter speed that suits every shot.

Samsung also highlights Virtual Aperture, an ND filter, and multiple exposure in Expert RAW, as well as Log Video for video color grading. These are optional creative tools, not necessary steps for routine still photos.

Fix blur, haze, or an unexpectedly dark preview
For blurry or hazy photos
- Clean the camera glass before changing settings.
- Try a different shooting angle or avoid strong light sources that may cause haze or flare.
- If a close subject will not focus with the 5x telephoto camera, switch lenses or move farther away. Samsung lists a 30 cm minimum shooting distance for that camera on the S25 Ultra.
For a preview that looks darker than expected
Where Camera Assistant is available, check its Advanced Photo mode controls. Samsung says limits on shutter speed and ISO may be used to reduce blur and noise; turning those limits off can brighten the preview but changes that blur-and-noise tradeoff. Camera Assistant availability depends on country, including whether Good Lock is supported there.
