- Open Settings > Windows Update, install every available update, restart, then check again. Repeat until no important updates remain.
- Open Microsoft Store, select your account or library, and install pending updates for Store applications.
- Open or install HP Support Assistant. Select the OmniBook identified by your serial number and apply offered BIOS, firmware, chipset, graphics, wireless and HP utility updates.
- Restart after each major BIOS or firmware installation. Do not close the lid, disconnect power or force a shutdown while firmware is being written.

Choose the Windows power mode for the work you are doing
Windows 11 exposes the principal performance choices at Settings > System > Power & battery. The labels can vary slightly with Windows updates, but the practical choices are an efficiency-oriented mode, balanced mode and a performance-oriented mode.

Use the efficiency setting on battery and switch to performance only when the workload justifies it, preferably with the 65 W adapter connected. Power-management settings, workload and hardware configuration all affect runtime; a mode is not a fixed battery-life promise.
Reduce the largest sources of battery drain
Adjust the OLED display deliberately
Set brightness to the lowest level that remains comfortable, especially on a bright OLED panel. A bright screen consumes more energy, and the panel’s refresh-rate choice can also affect runtime. If Windows or your HP utility offers a lower refresh option, use it for reading or office work and reserve the highest setting for motion-sensitive work. Change the setting back when smooth motion matters.
Open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen and sleep and shorten the time before the display turns off and the computer sleeps when running on battery. These timers stop an unattended screen from consuming power for hours.

Turn off lighting and radios you do not need
Switch off the keyboard backlight when working in a well-lit room. Disable Bluetooth or Wi-Fi only when you genuinely do not need the radio; otherwise, repeatedly toggling radios can be less convenient than leaving the required connection active. During travel, enable Battery Saver and review Windows energy recommendations for one-click reductions in display and background activity.
Limit synchronization during battery work
Large cloud uploads, photo indexing, game downloads and video calls can keep the processor, storage, graphics hardware and wireless radio busy together. Pause nonessential synchronization before a flight or presentation, and resume it after connecting power. Keep browser tabs that play video, refresh dashboards or run complex web applications under control.

Review startup programs
Go to Settings > Apps > Startup. Turn off launchers, update helpers and collaboration tools that you do not need immediately after sign-in. Leave security software, touchpad components, audio controls and hardware utilities enabled unless you know exactly what a program does.
Find the process causing a sudden drain
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager. On the Processes tab, sort by CPU, GPU, memory or the power-usage columns when available. A browser tab, video encoder, game, cloud-sync client or stuck updater can explain rapid discharge and fan activity. Close the responsible application normally, then investigate its settings or update it instead of repeatedly killing system processes.
Do not remove HP services or drivers blindly. They may provide hotkeys, thermal control, diagnostics, charging behavior or a hardware feature. If disabling a startup item changes battery life, record the change so it can be reversed after troubleshooting.

Use the correct charger and understand fast charging
HP lists a 65 W AC adapter as the recommended power source and sells a 65 W USB-C Laptop Charger. A replacement USB-C charger must support the notebook’s required USB Power Delivery profile, not merely have a USB-C plug. Check the exact regional specification and the charger’s output profile before buying.

HP describes the fast-charge feature as: “When your laptop is low on power, no one has time to wait hours to recharge. Power down your device and go from 0 to 50% charge in approximately 45 minutes.” Treat that as an approximate specification, not a guarantee while the computer is operating or under a heavy load.
A charger rated below the required power may charge slowly, stop charging during demanding work or allow the battery to continue falling. A high-wattage charger is not automatically compatible: USB-PD voltage and current profiles must match what the OmniBook accepts.
Set up a cooler desk for sustained performance
For compiling, rendering or long calculations, place the OmniBook on a hard, level surface. Keep intake and exhaust openings clear; a bed, blanket or soft case can block airflow and force thermal throttling. Thermal throttling lowers clock speeds to control temperature, so a blocked vent can make a high-performance power mode feel slower than balanced mode on a clear desk.
When connected to power, a USB-C dock can carry displays and peripherals over one cable. HP lists a USB-C 100W G6 Dock as an accessory. Confirm the dock’s display outputs, charging behavior and regional availability for your exact computer before purchase. A dock can simplify a desk, but it does not remove the need for unobstructed airflow.

Protect long-term battery capacity
The listed battery is a 70 Wh, four-cell lithium-ion polymer pack. HP publishes up to 20 hours 45 minutes under MobileMark 25; that is a controlled specification result, not a promise for every configuration or workload. Applications, wireless use, display settings, power mode, temperature and battery age can all produce shorter runtime.
- Do not leave the computer hot and charging inside a closed bag.
- Use the current HP utility or BIOS battery-care, adaptive-charging or charge-limit option if one is offered for your exact model.
- For long plugged-in periods, a charge-management feature can reduce the time the battery spends at its highest state of charge.
- Keep vents clear and avoid unusually hot or cold environments.
- Expect capacity to decline naturally with time and use; a lower full-charge capacity after extended service is not automatically a software fault.
The available battery-care controls can differ by BIOS and region. If you do not see a setting, do not install an unofficial tuning utility just to create one.

Make a simple baseline before changing drivers, registry values or third-party power tools. Charge to a known percentage, note brightness, refresh rate, Wi-Fi use and power mode, then perform a repeatable task for one hour. Record the percentage lost, fan behavior, application activity and any noticeable heat.
This baseline distinguishes normal variation from a fault. A video call, bright OLED screen and active synchronization can consume far more power than reading a local document. Compare like with like rather than comparing a light office hour with a gaming or rendering session.

- Install pending Windows, BIOS, firmware and driver updates through the model-specific HP tools.
- Check Task Manager for an application with sustained CPU, GPU or power use.
- Lower brightness, select the efficiency-oriented battery mode, shorten screen-off and sleep timers, and pause unnecessary synchronization.
- Run HP Battery Check and diagnostics. Keep the result and any error code.
- If the battery report indicates materially reduced capacity or diagnostics report a fault, contact HP support with the serial number rather than resetting Windows first.
If the OmniBook feels slow while plugged in
- Confirm that Windows recognizes the 65 W adapter and that the USB-C cable is suitable for the charger’s power profile.
- Switch to the performance-oriented mode only for the sustained workload that needs it.
- Move the computer to a hard surface and clear every intake and exhaust opening.
- Check Task Manager for an update, scan or synchronization job consuming resources.
- Install current chipset, graphics, BIOS and firmware updates, then restart.
If charging is slow or stops during heavy work
Verify the adapter’s wattage and USB-PD profile, reconnect the cable firmly, and test while the computer is shut down. The approximately 50% in 45 minutes figure applies with the notebook powered down and the supplied or recommended adapter. If charging remains abnormal with the correct adapter, run HP diagnostics and record whether the issue occurs at different temperatures or power levels.

Switch profiles when the situation changes. Leaving performance mode enabled for light battery work spends energy without providing a meaningful benefit; leaving efficiency mode enabled for a long plugged-in build can unnecessarily limit responsiveness.
What the published battery numbers mean
HP’s current specification lists three figures readers commonly use to set expectations: a 70 Wh battery, up to 20 hours 45 minutes in MobileMark 25, and approximately 50% charge in 45 minutes under the stated fast-charge conditions. MobileMark is a standardized test scenario, not a measurement of every OmniBook Ultra 16 configuration running your applications. Wireless use, brightness, refresh rate, workload, power mode, environment and battery age can all reduce the result.
Use those numbers to compare the specification with your measured baseline, not to diagnose a fault by themselves. A one-hour video call, bright OLED panel and active cloud upload represent a substantially different load from a controlled office benchmark.
When to seek support
Contact HP support with the full product number, serial number, Windows version, BIOS version, charger details, diagnostic code and your one-hour baseline when any of these persists after updates and sensible settings changes:
- The battery percentage falls rapidly during a light, repeatable workload.
- HP Battery Check reports a failure or substantially reduced capacity.
- The computer will not charge with the recommended adapter and a firmly connected cable.
- The system repeatedly throttles or shuts down despite clear vents and current firmware.
- A BIOS or firmware update fails, loops or leaves a hardware feature unavailable.
Those details let support distinguish software load, charger compatibility, thermal conditions and battery wear without guessing from a single runtime claim.
