Yes. The Garmin Tacx NEO 2T works with Zwift as a controllable smart trainer. Because it is a direct-drive model, you remove your bike’s rear wheel and mount the bike on the trainer. The setup then depends on which NEO 2T you have: the standard model needs a separate cassette, while the Zwift Cog and Click version uses virtual shifting in Zwift.
Choose the right NEO 2T setup
Garmin lists both a standard Tacx NEO 2T Smart Trainer and a distinct NEO 2T with Zwift Cog and Click. Check the product name and included hardware before installing anything: the Cog replaces a conventional cassette, so the two configurations do not use the same drivetrain setup.

| Configuration | What goes on the trainer | Shifting | Drivetrain compatibility stated by Garmin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard NEO 2T | A cassette matched to the bike; cassette not included. Garmin says the included Shimano/SRAM body accepts 8–11-speed Shimano or SRAM cassettes. | Conventional mechanical shifting, with the chain moving across cassette sprockets. | 8–11-speed Shimano or SRAM cassettes on the included body; other standards may require a different cassette body. Garmin setup guidance. |
| NEO 2T with Zwift Cog and Click | The preinstalled Zwift Cog replaces a standard cassette; Click attaches to the handlebar. | Virtual shifting through Click in Zwift; it changes trainer resistance rather than moving the chain between cassette sprockets. | Garmin says almost any 8–13-speed drivetrain when used with Zwift or ROUVY. Garmin announcement, August 18, 2026. |
Check bike fit before mounting
Confirm the frame, axle and trainer end-cap arrangement against Garmin’s NEO 2T setup instructions. Garmin specifies a minimum chainstay width of 62 mm, measured 25 mm forward of the dropouts. It says the trainer does not support axles larger than 12 × 148 mm or Super Boost axles. The trainer ships with 130 mm quick-release end caps installed and supports quick-release and most 12 mm thru-axle setups with the relevant end caps; do not assume the supplied configuration fits every bike.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsInstall the cassette on the standard model
The standard NEO 2T listing says a cassette is not included and advises choosing one of the same type and speed as the bike. The included Shimano/SRAM cassette body supports 8–11-speed Shimano or SRAM cassettes. If the bike uses another drivetrain standard, verify whether it needs a different cassette body before purchasing parts.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Identify the bike’s cassette type and number of speeds.
- Confirm that the cassette is compatible with the trainer’s cassette body, or determine whether another body is required.
- Install a matching cassette and mount the bike according to Garmin’s setup guide.
- Garmin recommends a new cassette, preferably with a new chain, to reduce noise and support shifting.
For the Cog and Click configuration, do not install a conventional cassette in place of the preinstalled Cog unless Garmin’s instructions for that specific setup call for a change. The Cog-and-Click experience is intended for virtual shifting in Zwift; it is not ordinary derailleur shifting.
Pair the NEO 2T with Zwift
Garmin confirms that its smart trainers can be controlled by training apps and lists Zwift compatibility for NEO-series features. In Zwift, pair the trainer as the controllable smart trainer so the app can adjust resistance; pair its power source as prompted. For the Cog and Click version, follow the Zwift pairing flow for virtual shifting and the Click controls. Exact on-screen labels can change with app updates, so use the current in-app pairing prompts rather than relying on a fixed menu path.

What the trainer does—and what needs power
Garmin documents the NEO 2T as supporting ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth control, and lists power, speed and cadence accuracy of under 1%, with no calibration requirement. These are Garmin specifications, not independent test results. Garmin also documents road feel, descent simulation, a virtual flywheel and operation without external power. Road feel and descent simulation require external power; when unplugged, those two features are unavailable. See Garmin’s Tacx smart-trainer feature guide.

Zwift’s virtual speed and speed recorded by a Garmin watch or Edge can differ. The training app calculates virtual speed, while a cycling computer may calculate speed from wheel rotations. This distinction is especially noticeable in ERG mode or when using virtual shifting; it does not by itself mean the trainer has failed to connect. What is not established by Garmin’s listings
The product listings establish hardware configuration and app compatibility, but do not establish whether a Zwift subscription is included with a NEO 2T purchase. They also do not provide a like-for-like street-price, warranty, measured-noise or independent ride-test comparison between the standard and Cog-and-Click versions. Check the seller’s current bundle terms for subscription details.
