Apple TV cannot run Apple Intelligence. Apple lists Apple TV, HomePod and other devices among those that are not Apple Intelligence-capable. On Apple TV, the feature you can set up is Siri: Apple’s voice assistant for searching, opening apps and controlling supported playback features. Apple Intelligence setup applies to eligible iPhone, iPad and Mac models instead.
This guide shows how to enable Siri on Apple TV, use optional voice recognition and AirPods features, control the television from another Apple device, and fix the region, language and accessibility settings that commonly prevent Siri from working.

Apple Intelligence and Siri are different features on Apple TV
Apple Intelligence is Apple’s generative-AI system, and Apple TV is not an eligible device. There is no Apple Intelligence switch, download or setup sequence for tvOS. Apple’s support wording specifically places Apple TV in the group of devices that are “not Apple Intelligence-capable.”
Siri is available separately on supported Apple TV hardware. It handles voice requests through the Siri Remote and can search for movies, TV shows, podcasts and apps. Siri can also use voice recognition to provide more personalized recommendations and switch to the appropriate profile.

| Voice recognition | Optional | Set up recognition on an iPhone or iPad, then enable it for an Apple TV profile. |
| Siri through AirPods | Optional, when supported AirPods are connected | Enable the AirPods listening control in Apple TV’s Siri settings. |
| Siri on iPhone or iPad controlling the TV | Available after Apple TV is added to a Home app room | Configure the TV under Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit. |
What you need before setup
- A supported Apple TV model and a working remote with a Siri/Search button for the standard setup.
- An Apple TV language and region that support Siri. Apple says commands, languages and availability vary by country or region.
- A supported Apple Account billing region. A mismatch between the Apple TV’s selected region and the billing region can prevent Siri from being enabled.
- An iPhone or iPad only if you want voice recognition or to use Siri on that device to control the television.
- Compatible, connected AirPods only if you want the optional hands-free listening path.
Menu names can differ slightly by tvOS version and locale. Apple also cautions that features and content are not available on every Apple TV model or in every country and region.
How to turn on Siri on Apple TV
- From the Apple TV Home Screen, open Settings.
- Select General, then choose Siri.
- Turn Siri on.
- If Apple TV offers a language selector, choose the language you want to use. The available choices and commands depend on your country or region.
- Leave Settings and test the remote button by holding it while you speak.
The Siri settings area can also expose controls for Siri and Dictation history, whether spoken text appears on screen, on-screen actions and which apps can use Siri. The exact controls shown depend on the Apple TV software and locale.
How to make a Siri request with the remote
- Point the Siri Remote toward the Apple TV and press and hold the Siri/Search button.
- Speak your request while holding the button.
- Release the button when you finish speaking.
Try a request such as searching for a movie, finding a television show, locating a podcast or opening an app. Siri can use voice recognition to associate requests with a person’s profile, which can improve recommendations and profile switching when that option is configured.

Set up personalized voice recognition
Voice recognition is an enhancement, not a prerequisite. Siri works from the remote without it. Recognition lets Apple TV identify a household member and use that person’s profile for more personalized recommendations and switching.
- On an iPhone or iPad, complete Apple’s voice-recognition setup for the person who will use Siri.
- On Apple TV, open Settings > Profiles and Accounts.
- Select the profile to personalize.
- Turn on Recognize My Voice.
- Repeat for other household profiles as needed.
Apple documents support for up to six profiles using this feature. Each person should use the profile that matches their own voice-recognition setup; otherwise recommendations or account selection may not be personalized as expected.
Use AirPods to speak to Siri on Apple TV
Connected AirPods can provide an alternative way to listen for Siri requests. This is optional: the Siri Remote remains the normal method.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Connect the AirPods to Apple TV.
- Open Settings > General > Siri.
- Enable the setting that allows Siri requests to be heard through the connected AirPods.
- If you use AirPods Pro (2nd generation or later), look for the distinct Listen on AirPods control and enable it when available.
- Speak a request using the AirPods’ Siri interaction as indicated by the on-screen controls.
The exact control can vary with the AirPods model, Apple TV hardware and tvOS version. If the option is absent, use the remote button or verify that the AirPods are actually connected to the Apple TV rather than another nearby Apple device.

Use Siri on an iPhone or iPad to control the television
If your goal is to speak to Siri on an iPhone or iPad and have it control video on the television, first make the Apple TV part of your Home setup. This is a different workflow from pressing the Siri button on the remote.
- On Apple TV, open Settings > AirPlay and HomeKit.
- Add the Apple TV to a room in the Home app.
- Finish the Home setup on the iPhone or iPad using the same household configuration.
- Use Siri on that iPhone or iPad to address the Apple TV and supported playback actions.
Adding the Apple TV to a room does not turn on Apple Intelligence and does not make the television itself an Apple Intelligence device. It simply makes the Apple TV available as a Home-connected target for supported Siri controls.
Why Siri will not turn on
Check the Apple TV language and region
Open Settings > General > Language and Region. Confirm that the selected language and country or region are supported for Siri. Apple states that Siri’s availability, commands and language support vary by location, so a language that works on one Apple TV may not be offered on another configured for a different region.
Check the Apple Account billing region
Apple also uses the Apple Account billing region when determining availability. If the Apple TV’s selected country or region and the account’s billing region do not align with a supported configuration, Siri may not be available even when the hardware is otherwise compatible.

Confirm the hardware and software context
Not every Apple TV feature is available on every Apple TV model. Apple’s current Apple TV 4K guide documents the Siri controls, but labels and options can differ across tvOS versions and locales. Update the device through its normal software settings if an expected control is missing, then recheck Settings > General > Siri.
Make sure the remote interaction is correct
Siri is invoked by holding the Siri/Search button, speaking and releasing it. If the remote is unresponsive, test other remote functions. A faulty or missing remote prevents the standard button-based interaction, but it does not indicate that Apple Intelligence is unavailable for a different reason; Apple TV does not support Apple Intelligence at all.
Check whether VoiceOver is speaking labels
If Apple TV reads the names of settings or icons aloud, Apple says to check whether VoiceOver is enabled. VoiceOver is an accessibility feature, not Siri. Its speech can be mistaken for Siri behavior, especially while navigating Settings. Turn VoiceOver off through the Apple TV accessibility controls if you do not need it, then test Siri separately with the remote button.
Privacy and on-screen behavior settings
The Settings > General > Siri page is more than an on/off switch. Depending on your tvOS version, it can include Siri and Dictation history controls, speech display, on-screen actions and app access. Review these options if Siri responds but behaves differently from what you expect—for example, if spoken text is displayed, if Siri is allowed to act on screen or if a particular app does not appear in results.
Changing these controls affects how Siri presents or handles requests; it does not add Apple Intelligence features to Apple TV. Apple’s availability limits still apply by hardware, software version, language and region.
