How to Set Up RayNeo GT Max Glasses with a Phone, Laptop, or Game Console

RayNeo GT Max glasses are a wired external display, not a wireless headset. Connect the included USB-C cable directly to a phone, tablet, Mac, Windows laptop, or handheld only when that USB-C port supports DisplayPort video output. For a PS5, Xbox, Switch dock, HDMI-only computer, or another HDMI source, use the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter. A Lightning iPhone or iPad needs Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter before the RayNeo HDMI adapter.

The reliable setup is therefore determined by the source’s video connector: USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode uses one cable, HDMI uses the RayNeo adapter and external USB-C power, and Lightning devices require both Apple’s video adapter and RayNeo’s HDMI adapter.

What you need before connecting

Identify the source’s video output before plugging anything in. A USB-C socket can provide charging or data without carrying a display signal. RayNeo’s support documentation states: “A USB-C connector does not always support video output.” Look for DisplayPort Alt Mode support, or compatible Thunderbolt video on a computer. If the source exposes only HDMI, use the HDMI adapter instead of trying different USB-C cables.

Source Video path Adapters Power and charging considerations
USB-C phone, tablet, Mac, or Windows laptop Source USB-C DisplayPort output to GT Max None for basic display The source normally powers the glasses; use the RayNeo USB-C Charging Adapter if the source must charge at the same time.
PS5, Xbox, or Switch dock HDMI output to RayNeo HDMI adapter, then USB-C to glasses RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter Connect USB-C PD power to the adapter; HDMI by itself does not power the glasses.
HDMI-only computer Computer HDMI output to RayNeo HDMI adapter, then USB-C to glasses RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter External USB-C PD power is required at the adapter.
Lightning iPhone or iPad Lightning device to Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter, then HDMI to RayNeo adapter, then USB-C to glasses Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter and RayNeo HDMI adapter Follow the adapter chain in that order; the RayNeo adapter still needs its USB-C PD input.
Steam Deck or another USB-C handheld Handheld USB-C DisplayPort output to GT Max None when DisplayPort output is supported The handheld normally supplies power. Charging while playing requires a suitable charging arrangement, such as the RayNeo USB-C Charging Adapter where supported.

Connect a USB-C phone or tablet

Check that USB-C carries video

Before connecting the glasses, verify that the phone or tablet supports DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C. Manufacturers often place multiple USB-C ports with different capabilities on related devices, so the connector’s shape alone is not enough. A charging-only or data-only port will not produce an image in GT Max.

Make the direct connection

  1. Turn on the phone or tablet and unlock it.
  2. Plug the included USB-C cable into the device’s video-capable USB-C port.
  3. Plug the other end into the RayNeo GT Max glasses.
  4. Wait for the device to detect an external display. The source normally supplies both the video signal and operating power for the glasses.

If the phone has a display-output setting, enable its wired or external-display option. The exact label varies by manufacturer, and the glasses should be treated as a standard external screen rather than as a Bluetooth accessory. No wireless pairing step is required for this wired path.

When the phone also needs to charge

A single USB-C port can be occupied by the glasses, leaving no socket for a charger. RayNeo lists a USB-C Charging Adapter for this situation. Connect the phone, charging adapter, and glasses according to the adapter’s labeling, then provide power to the charging input. Use this arrangement only when the phone and adapter support the required video and power pass-through; a generic USB-C hub is not automatically compatible.

Connect a Mac or Windows laptop

USB-C laptop setup

Use a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode or compatible Thunderbolt video. Some laptops have USB-C ports that handle charging and data but not displays, so check the computer’s port specifications if nothing appears.

  1. Save work and connect the included USB-C cable between the video-capable laptop port and GT Max.
  2. Allow the operating system a few seconds to detect the glasses as an external monitor.
  3. Open the display controls and choose the layout you want.

Choose mirror or extended desktop

On Windows, open Settings > System > Display. Select the detected RayNeo display, then use the Duplicate these displays option to show the same image on the laptop and glasses, or choose Extend these displays to make the glasses a second desktop. RayNeo describes GT Max as a standard external display for Windows.

  • Universal USB-C Compatibility – No WiFi or Apps Required. Connect directly to iPhone 17/16/15 (USB-C models), Android phones, MacBook, iPad, Steam Deck, and PlayStation consoles. No battery inside—lighter weight and instant setup wherever you go.

On macOS, open Apple menu > System Settings > Displays. Select the glasses and choose mirroring when both screens should show the same content, or arrange the displays for an extended desktop. If macOS shows no second display, return to the USB-C video-capability check before changing software settings.

Charge while using the laptop

If the laptop has only one suitable USB-C port, connecting GT Max can prevent simultaneous charging. Use the RayNeo USB-C Charging Adapter listed for this purpose, and connect its power input to the laptop charger or another compatible USB-C power source. The adapter solves the port-sharing problem; it does not convert a non-video USB-C port into a display output.

Connect a PS5, Xbox, Switch dock, or HDMI-only computer

These sources produce HDMI video, so they cannot connect directly to the glasses with the included USB-C cable. The required bridge is the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter.

Console or computer procedure

  1. Power off the console or computer, or place it in standby while wiring the display path.
  2. Connect an HDMI cable from the source’s HDMI output to the HDMI input on the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter.
  3. Connect the included USB-C cable from the adapter’s USB-C output to the GT Max glasses.
  4. Connect USB-C PD power to the adapter’s power input as directed on the adapter. HDMI supplies video but does not power the glasses.
  5. Turn on the source and then wake the glasses if necessary.
  6. Set the source to a display mode supported by the adapter. If the image is blank, begin with 1920×1080 at a standard refresh rate before trying higher modes documented for your particular source and adapter.

Keep the HDMI cable connected to the adapter’s input, not its power socket, and make sure the USB-C cable is in the adapter’s glasses output. The adapter’s external power connection is part of the display path, not an optional charging convenience.

PS5 and Xbox output settings

Open the console’s display or video settings after the glasses show an image. Start with automatic output or 1080p if you are troubleshooting. Only select a higher resolution or refresh mode when the console, HDMI adapter, and GT Max documentation all indicate support. A mode that a television accepts may still produce a blank screen through an adapter that supports fewer timings.

Switch dock setup

Use the Switch dock’s HDMI output as the source. The handheld itself is not being connected by USB-C in this arrangement; the dock’s HDMI signal travels through the RayNeo adapter. Supply USB-C PD power to the adapter, connect its output to GT Max, and select a conservative output mode first if the display does not appear.

Connect a Lightning iPhone or iPad

Lightning devices cannot feed the RayNeo adapter directly. Use this complete chain:

  1. Attach the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter to the iPhone or iPad’s Lightning port.
  2. Connect an HDMI cable from the Apple adapter to the HDMI input on the RayNeo adapter.
  3. Connect the included USB-C cable from the RayNeo adapter’s glasses output to GT Max.
  4. Connect USB-C PD power to the RayNeo adapter.
  5. Unlock the iPhone or iPad and start the video or app you want to view.

Both adapters are required. If either one is missing, the device cannot convert its Lightning output into the HDMI signal that the RayNeo adapter expects. Keep the order intact when diagnosing a blank screen.

Connect Steam Deck and other USB-C handhelds

Steam Deck’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort video, so it can connect directly to GT Max with the included cable. Plug the cable into the handheld’s USB-C port and the glasses, then wait for the external display to be detected. If the handheld offers display arrangement or resolution controls, use them to select the glasses’ output.

Other USB-C handhelds require the same capability. Confirm DisplayPort output in the device specifications instead of assuming that every USB-C port can drive a monitor. A handheld with a charging-only USB-C port needs an appropriate video adapter or another output; the included cable cannot create a video signal that the port does not provide.

Resolution, refresh rate, and 2D or 3D modes

RayNeo’s console guide (2026) lists a 1920×1080 panel, 120Hz in 2D mode, and 60Hz in 3D mode. Those are the display’s listed capabilities, not a guarantee that every source will deliver those settings.

Specification listed by RayNeo What it means during setup
1920×1080 panel Use 1920×1080 as the first troubleshooting output for HDMI sources when the screen is blank.
120Hz in 2D mode A compatible source and adapter must negotiate a 120Hz signal; the panel’s capability does not force a game or video to run at that rate.
60Hz in 3D mode Switching to 3D changes the listed refresh mode. The source and content must also support the selected mode.

Actual refresh depends on the console or computer, the game or application, the adapter, and the selected output mode. A 120Hz panel does not make a 60-frame-per-second game run at 120 frames per second. If an unsupported mode causes a blank image, return to 1080p and a standard refresh rate, confirm the connection, and then test other documented modes one at a time.

Troubleshoot a blank screen or intermittent image

Nothing appears over USB-C

  • Confirm that the source port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode or compatible Thunderbolt video. Charging and data support alone are insufficient.
  • Disconnect any hub or dock and test the included USB-C cable directly between the source and glasses.
  • Reseat both ends of the cable firmly.
  • On Windows, reopen Settings > System > Display and use Detect if available. On macOS, revisit System Settings > Displays.
  • If the source has multiple USB-C ports, test the one identified for display output in its specifications.

HDMI console or computer shows no picture

  • Reseat HDMI at both the source and the RayNeo adapter.
  • Reseat USB-C at the adapter and glasses.
  • Verify that USB-C PD power is connected to the adapter. HDMI alone cannot power GT Max.
  • Set the source to 1920×1080 first, then try other modes only when the adapter and source document them.
  • Replace a third-party USB-C cable with the included cable to remove cable compatibility as a variable.

Lightning iPhone or iPad fails

  • Confirm that the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter is installed between the device and the HDMI cable.
  • Confirm that the HDMI cable goes from the Apple adapter to the RayNeo HDMI adapter’s HDMI input.
  • Check the RayNeo adapter’s USB-C PD power connection.
  • Keep the documented order: Lightning device, Apple adapter, HDMI, RayNeo adapter, included USB-C cable, and GT Max.

The image cuts out while playing

  • Check every connector for a partial insertion, especially the small USB-C plugs at the glasses and adapter.
  • Use the included cable and avoid adding an unverified hub or extension.
  • Reduce the source to a supported 1080p mode and observe whether the connection stabilizes.
  • If the source is also charging, verify that the charging adapter or power path is connected as designed rather than drawing more power than the source can provide.

Choose the simplest working connection

Use the following decision process when planning a setup:

  1. Is the source’s USB-C port documented for DisplayPort video? If yes, use the included cable directly.
  2. Is the source HDMI-only? Use the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter and provide USB-C PD power.
  3. Is the Apple device Lightning-based? Add the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter before the RayNeo HDMI adapter.
  4. Does the source need to charge during use? Add the RayNeo USB-C Charging Adapter where the direct USB-C connection occupies the only suitable port.
  5. Is the screen blank? Check the physical signal path first, then test 1920×1080 before experimenting with higher modes.

This approach minimizes adapters while preserving the required video standard. USB-C DisplayPort is the shortest path; HDMI sources need one conversion adapter and a power input; Lightning devices need an additional Apple conversion step.
