How to set up RayNeo GT glasses with a phone, laptop, or game console

RayNeo GT glasses are a host-dependent USB-C display: connect them directly to a device whose USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, or route an HDMI source through the RayNeo HDMI Adapter. The included USB-C cable carries video and power to the glasses. USB-C ports that only charge or transfer data cannot drive the display.

What RayNeo GT needs to show a picture

RayNeo GT does not operate as a self-contained monitor. A phone, computer, handheld or console must provide the video signal, and the host normally powers the glasses through the same connection. RayNeo’s support documentation warns that “A USB-C connector does not always support video output. Charging-only and data-only USB-C ports are not compatible.” The connector’s shape is therefore not enough; verify the port’s video specification.

For a direct connection, use the USB-C cable included with the glasses. The source must support DisplayPort Alt Mode (also called USB-C video output). If the source only has HDMI, add the RayNeo HDMI Adapter. HDMI carries the picture but does not supply enough power for the glasses in console setups, so the adapter’s USB-C power input must also be connected to a USB-C PD charger or power bank.

Because the host supplies power, its battery can drain faster and the device may become warm during use. Keep a charger available for long sessions, especially with phones, handheld consoles and laptops running on battery.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Connect a USB-C iPhone

Supported direct-connection models

RayNeo lists the iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 series as examples of phones that can connect directly over USB-C. The specific model still matters: RayNeo lists iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air without a confirmed video-output path, so do not assume that every USB-C iPhone works.

Direct setup

  1. Unlock the iPhone and install any pending iOS updates if you want the latest display compatibility.
  2. Insert one end of the included USB-C cable into the iPhone’s USB-C port.
  3. Insert the other end into the glasses.
  4. Put on the glasses and wait for the iPhone to detect the external display. Open the phone’s display or video app if it does not automatically mirror.
  5. For a long session, connect the iPhone to a charger separately or stop background apps that consume power; the glasses draw power from the phone.

No video adapter is needed when the iPhone itself provides USB-C DisplayPort output. If nothing appears, test the cable on another known video-capable device and verify the exact iPhone model rather than relying on the USB-C connector alone.

Connect a Lightning iPhone or iPad

iPhone 14 and earlier models, along with Lightning-equipped iPads such as the ninth-generation iPad, need two adapters because Lightning does not send the USB-C DisplayPort signal that GT expects.

Required connection order

  1. Plug the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter into the iPhone or iPad’s Lightning port.
  2. Connect an HDMI cable from the Apple adapter’s HDMI output to the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter.
  3. Plug the included USB-C cable into the RayNeo adapter’s glasses output and the other end into RayNeo GT.
  4. Provide power to the adapter chain according to the adapter indicators and instructions. Keep the Apple adapter connected directly to the iPhone or iPad; inserting the devices in a different order can prevent video detection.
  5. Unlock the device and start the video or presentation you want to mirror.

Both adapters are required. A Lightning-to-USB-C charging cable is not a substitute for Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter because charging-only and data-only connections do not provide the required display signal.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Connect an Android phone

Android support depends on the phone’s USB-C video implementation, not simply on Android version or the presence of USB-C. RayNeo names Samsung Galaxy S8 through S25 as supported examples, but the reliable buying check is the phone manufacturer’s specification for “DisplayPort Alt Mode,” “DP Alt Mode” or “USB-C video output.”

Direct Android setup

  1. Confirm that the exact phone model supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. Regional variants can differ.
  2. Unlock the phone and connect the included USB-C cable between the phone and the glasses.
  3. Accept any external-display or screen-mirroring prompt shown by the phone.
  4. Open the desired video, game or productivity app. If the phone offers a desktop mode, choose the mode that matches your intended use.
  5. Monitor battery temperature and charge the phone when practical; the phone is powering the glasses.

If the phone charges but the glasses remain blank, that behavior usually indicates that the port supports charging without video. Confirm the specification before buying an HDMI accessory; an HDMI adapter is useful only when you can obtain an HDMI signal from the phone or a compatible dock.

Connect a Mac or Windows laptop

Mac with USB-C video

A Mac whose USB-C or Thunderbolt port provides DisplayPort output can connect directly. Use the included cable, then open macOS display settings to choose mirroring or an extended desktop. If a Mac has several USB-C ports, test the one identified in Apple’s technical specifications as supporting display output; ports on the same computer are not always equivalent.

Windows laptop with USB-C video

On a Windows laptop, look for a USB-C port marked with a DisplayPort symbol or verify the model’s specifications for USB-C DisplayPort output. Connect the included cable, press Windows + P, and choose Duplicate for a mirror or Extend for a second desktop. The glasses receive power from the laptop, so battery use rises during operation.

Computer without USB-C video

Use the computer’s HDMI output with the RayNeo HDMI Adapter when the computer has no USB-C DisplayPort path. Connect an HDMI cable from the computer to the adapter, connect the included USB-C cable from the adapter to the glasses, and plug USB-C PD power into the adapter. Desktop towers generally need this route because their front or rear USB-C ports may be data-only.

Set the computer to a conservative output such as 1920×1080 at 60 Hz if the image is missing or unstable, then increase settings only after a picture appears. The glasses’ panel is 1920×1080; sending an unsupported resolution or refresh rate can produce a blank display even when the cables are connected correctly.

Connect a PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 or Xbox

PlayStation and Xbox consoles output video over HDMI, while RayNeo GT expects a USB-C video signal. RayNeo’s documented setup therefore uses the HDMI Adapter and a separate power connection.

Console wiring

  1. Turn off the console and connect an HDMI cable from the console’s HDMI output to the RayNeo HDMI Adapter.
  2. Connect the included USB-C cable from the adapter’s glasses output to RayNeo GT.
  3. Connect a USB-C PD power source to the adapter’s power input. The console’s HDMI port does not power the glasses.
  4. Turn on the power source and console, then put on the glasses.
  5. If the screen is blank, set the console output to 1080p first. Once the connection works, test higher refresh or HDR options only if the console, adapter and display mode support them.

Keep the HDMI cable fully seated at both ends. A loose HDMI plug, missing PD power or a non-compliant USB-C cable can look like a console compatibility problem even when the console is functioning normally.

Connect a Steam Deck

Steam Deck’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort video, making a direct connection the simplest arrangement.

  1. Wake the Steam Deck and connect the included USB-C cable from the Deck to RayNeo GT.
  2. Wait for SteamOS to detect the external display. Use the display settings to select mirroring or an extended desktop where available.
  3. Manage the Deck’s performance and brightness settings for the game you are running; the Deck battery powers the glasses in this direct setup.

If direct USB-C video is inconvenient, connect the Deck to a dock or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter and then use the RayNeo HDMI Adapter. That fallback adds hardware and requires the HDMI adapter’s PD power path.

Connect a Nintendo Switch

Original Switch and Switch OLED

The original Switch and Switch OLED produce video from their docks’ HDMI output. Place the console in its dock, run an HDMI cable from the dock to the RayNeo HDMI Adapter, connect the included USB-C cable from the adapter to the glasses, and provide USB-C PD power to the adapter. Follow the current model-specific accessory guidance before buying a back-clip or dock accessory, because physical fit and power arrangements differ by Switch generation.

Switch 2

RayNeo lists Switch 2 under HDMI/accessory routes as well. Use the current RayNeo guidance for the Switch 2 dock and adapter combination rather than assuming that an original Switch accessory will work unchanged.

Switch Lite

Switch Lite has no video output, so a normal cable or HDMI adapter cannot send its game image to RayNeo GT.

Do you need the RayNeo XR App?

No. RayNeo states that the app is not required for basic display use. A direct USB-C connection or a correctly powered HDMI setup can mirror a source without installing the app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install the RayNeo XR App when you want features beyond ordinary mirroring, including AI 2D-to-3D conversion, immersive 3D playback, spatial photo and video viewing, and media management. Feature availability can vary by device, operating system, app version and glasses firmware.

  • Use basic cable connection alone for games, a laptop desktop, presentations or ordinary video mirroring.
  • Install the app for the app’s 3D conversion, spatial-media library or immersive playback functions.
  • Update the app and glasses firmware when a feature is unavailable, then check whether your phone or computer is supported.

Display specifications and viewing expectations

RayNeo’s current product specifications list a 1920×1080 panel, a 120 Hz refresh rate in 2D mode, a 60 Hz refresh rate in 3D mode and a 46-degree field of view. The listed virtual display presets are 136, 201 and 231 inches. These inch figures describe the apparent size of a virtual image, not the dimensions of a physical screen in front of you.

Specification RayNeo GT listing How it affects setup
Panel resolution 1920×1080 Start troubleshooting at 1080p when a source shows no image.
2D refresh rate 120 Hz Use a source and adapter combination that can negotiate the desired refresh rate.
3D refresh rate 60 Hz 3D playback uses a different refresh target than 2D operation.
Field of view 46° Determines how much of the virtual image fits within your view.
Virtual image presets 136, 201 and 231 inches These are virtual-size descriptions, not physical monitor measurements.
Product weight 68 g Weight of the glasses as listed by RayNeo; accessories and cables add to what you carry.

Troubleshoot a blank or unstable image

1. Confirm the source port

Check the exact device specification for DisplayPort Alt Mode or USB-C video output. A port that charges the phone or transfers files can still lack any display capability.

2. Simplify the signal path

For a USB-C source, remove hubs and docks and test the included cable directly. For HDMI, use only the console or computer, RayNeo HDMI Adapter, included USB-C cable and the required power connection until the image appears.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Check power on HDMI setups

Make sure a USB-C PD source is plugged into the HDMI Adapter. Console HDMI ports carry video but do not supply the power the glasses need.

4. Reseat every connector

Disconnect and firmly reconnect the USB-C and HDMI plugs. Inspect for partially inserted connectors, damaged cables or an adapter indicator that remains off.

5. Start at 1080p

Set the console or computer to 1920×1080 at 60 Hz. Once a stable image is established, test other refresh rates or display features one at a time.

6. Reboot in a known-good order

  1. Turn off the source device.
  2. Connect the cable and adapters, including PD power when using HDMI.
  3. Turn on the power source and glasses connection.
  4. Start or wake the phone, computer or console and select its external-display mode.

7. Check software and model revisions

Update the source operating system, RayNeo XR App and glasses firmware when applicable. Compatibility may change with firmware, app releases and device revisions, so verify the exact phone, laptop, console and adapter model if a setup that should be compatible still fails.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical setup checklist

  • Identify whether the source provides USB-C DisplayPort video or HDMI.
  • Use the included USB-C cable for direct DisplayPort-capable devices.
  • Add the RayNeo HDMI Adapter for HDMI computers, consoles and dock outputs.
  • For Lightning iPhones and iPads, place Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter before the RayNeo HDMI adapter.
  • Connect USB-C PD power for console and other HDMI arrangements.
  • Confirm output resolution and refresh rate when no image appears; begin with 1920×1080 at 60 Hz.
  • Install the RayNeo XR App only when its 3D, spatial-media or management features are needed.
  • Plan for host-battery drain and heat because the source device powers the glasses in direct USB-C use.
