How to Set Up Ray-Ban Meta Audio and Pair It With Your Phone

To set up Ray-Ban Meta audio, install the Meta AI app, sign in with a Meta account, enable Bluetooth on your phone, turn on the glasses, and put them into pairing mode. The glasses then appear in the app, which completes setup and manages their settings. Audio plays through the open-ear speakers built into the arms, so ordinary listening does not require separate headphones.

What you need before pairing

Have the following ready before starting:

• Ray-Ban Meta glasses with some charge remaining.

The app is used to manage the glasses after pairing, not merely to perform the first connection. Keep it installed if you want to change settings or manage the device later.

2. Turn on phone Bluetooth

Open your phone’s Settings and switch Bluetooth on. Leave Bluetooth enabled while pairing and during normal use. The glasses use Bluetooth for their phone connection and audio.

You do not need to buy a separate Bluetooth speaker or headphones for ordinary playback. Ray-Ban Meta glasses have discreet open-ear speakers built into the arms.

Turn on the glasses and read the status light

3. Power on the frames

1. Find the power switch on the glasses.
2. Slide and hold the switch toward the lens.
3. Watch for the notification LED to blink white.
4. Release the switch after the white blinking begins.

Startup can take up to one minute. When the glasses are ready, the light becomes solid green. Do not assume that a lack of an immediate app prompt means pairing has failed; allow the full startup period first.

Method A: use the capture button on the glasses

1. Fold both arms of the glasses.
2. Press and hold the capture button on top of the frames.
3. Keep holding it for 12 seconds.
4. Release it when the internal LED blinks blue.
5. Return to the Meta AI app and wait for the glasses to appear.

The 12-second hold and blue internal LED are the important cues. A brief press is not the documented pairing command.

Method B: use the charging-case button

1. Place the glasses in their charging case.
2. Close or position the case as required for the glasses to remain docked.
3. Press and hold the button on the back of the case for at least five seconds.
4. Release it when the case light flashes blue.
5. Open or return to the Meta AI app and wait for discovery.

This method is useful when the glasses’ own button does not start pairing or when the app specifically asks you to use the case. The glasses must be seated in the case for the case-button procedure.

Which pairing method should you use?

Button behavior can vary by model and by whether the glasses have already been associated with an account. Follow the exact prompt shown in your Meta AI app rather than forcing one method onto every version.

Finish pairing in the Meta AI app

4. Wait for the glasses to appear

After the blue pairing indication, keep the glasses near the phone and leave Bluetooth enabled. Ray-Ban says the glasses can take up to 10 seconds to appear in the app.

5. Follow every in-app prompt

Select the glasses when they appear and complete the prompts for adding the device, account association, permissions, and any setup options displayed by the current app version. Labels can change as the app is updated; use the prompt that corresponds to adding or setting up your glasses.

When the flow completes, the glasses are associated with the Meta account and available for audio over Bluetooth. Keep the app open until the setup confirmation appears instead of closing it as soon as the device is discovered.

First-unboxing setup

New glasses can require one extra step before normal pairing. Ray-Ban’s setup instructions describe a plastic tab between the case and glasses that must be removed.

1. Remove the plastic tab from between the case and the glasses.
2. Redock the glasses in the case.
3. Wait for the case light to flash blue.
4. Continue in the Meta AI app and follow its setup prompts.

If your case does not show the expected light after the tab is removed, make sure the glasses are seated correctly and have time to charge, then retry the case-button method. Do not assume the first-unboxing sequence is identical for every model; the app’s instructions take priority.

How audio works after pairing

Built-in speakers, not a separate accessory

Ray-Ban Meta glasses use open-ear speakers integrated into the arms. Once the glasses are connected over Bluetooth, they can play ordinary phone audio without a separate headset or portable speaker.

Open-ear construction lets outside sound remain audible, but it also means the glasses are not sealed earbuds. Listening level, sound leakage, and how clearly you hear audio depend on the surroundings, the fit, and the phone’s volume controls.

Let the phone and app complete routing

The official setup information establishes the Bluetooth connection and the integrated speakers, but it does not establish one universal audio-routing menu sequence for every phone operating system, manufacturer, or app version. After setup, start playback on the phone and use the phone’s current output or connected-device controls if you need to choose where sound is sent.

If audio continues through the phone instead of the glasses, first confirm that the glasses show as connected in the Meta AI app and in the phone’s Bluetooth controls. Then stop and restart playback. Avoid following a menu path copied from another phone model; labels and routing controls vary.

Why the glasses may not appear in the app

Check the basic connection state

• Confirm that the glasses are charged.
• Confirm that the power switch is on and allow up to one minute for startup.
• Confirm that phone Bluetooth is enabled.
• Put the glasses back into pairing mode and wait for the blue indicator.
• Keep the phone close to the glasses while the app searches.

After entering pairing mode, wait up to 10 seconds for discovery. If the glasses still do not appear, continue with the operating-system-specific steps below.

iPhone or iPad: clear an interfering Bluetooth pairing

Ray-Ban advises iOS users to forget the glasses in Bluetooth settings when an existing phone pairing is interfering with setup.

1. Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
2. Find the existing Ray-Ban Meta entry.
3. Choose the system option to forget or remove that device.
4. Return to the Meta AI app.
5. Use the case-button method or the frame-button method to enter pairing mode again, waiting for the blue indication.
6. Retry setup in the app.

The forget-device step is for an interfering iOS pairing. Ray-Ban’s FAQ says it is not necessary on Android.

Android: retry with a clean pairing state

On Android, start by putting the glasses into pairing mode again and retrying from the Meta AI app; the documented FAQ does not require forgetting an existing Bluetooth entry as an initial step. If discovery still fails, switch the glasses off and on, quit the Meta AI app, reopen it, and repeat the pairing procedure.

Restart both sides of the connection

If the app remains unable to find the glasses after the basic checks:

1. Switch the glasses off.
2. Switch them on again and wait for startup to finish.
3. Quit the Meta AI app completely.
4. Reopen the app and confirm that Bluetooth is still enabled.
5. Enter pairing mode again, preferably with the case button if the previous trigger did not work.
6. Wait for the blue indicator and retry discovery.

This sequence refreshes power, the app session, and the discoverable state without erasing captures or account associations.

Fix a connection that drops or reports an error

A successful initial pairing does not guarantee a stable connection if the phone is distant or surrounded by competing Bluetooth devices. Ray-Ban’s troubleshooting guidance is to:

• Move closer to the phone.
• Keep the phone in front of you or in a front pocket rather than behind your body.
• Disconnect other Bluetooth devices temporarily.

Then retry playback or the app action that failed. Keeping the phone in front matters because your body can obstruct a short-range wireless signal, especially when the phone is behind you.

Do not factory-reset as an early troubleshooting step

A factory reset is not the first fix for a missing app connection, a failed pairing attempt, or intermittent audio. Ray-Ban warns that a factory reset permanently erases captures and the glasses’ associations with the Meta account.

Use the power, Bluetooth, pairing-mode, app-restart, and distance checks first. If those steps fail and you are considering a reset, read the current official support instructions for your exact model and confirm that you have accepted the permanent data-loss consequence. Do not follow a reset sequence copied from an unrelated generation.

Charging case and replacement compatibility

A charging case is included with the product listing described by Meta, but a USB-C cable is not included with that listed model. The case is relevant to both charging and the documented case-button pairing method.

Do not buy a generic replacement case solely because it uses a familiar connector or looks physically similar. Compatibility varies by model, and an incompatible case may not charge the glasses or provide the case-button pairing behavior you need.

A practical setup checklist

• Meta AI app installed and opened.
• Meta account sign-in complete.
• Phone Bluetooth enabled.
• Glasses charged and powered on.
• White startup blinking observed, followed by solid green when ready.
• Pairing mode triggered with the correct method for the model.
• Blue blinking indicator observed.
• Up to 10 seconds allowed for the glasses to appear in the app.
• All in-app setup prompts completed.
• Phone kept close and other Bluetooth devices disconnected if the connection is unstable.

Once these conditions are met, audio should come from the glasses’ integrated open-ear speakers over the Bluetooth connection. If a step fails, return to the corresponding section rather than resetting the glasses immediately.

What can vary by phone, model, or app version

There is no universal compatibility table covering every Ray-Ban Meta generation, phone model, operating-system release, region, and current Meta AI app version in the available official setup material. App labels, permission prompts, and audio-output controls can therefore differ from the examples shown on another phone.
