A computer-based OBS stream is not unattended by default: the computer, power, internet connection, OBS and audio source must keep working, and someone needs a way to detect problems. If you are broadcasting a live prayer gathering, use the OBS workflow below; prerecorded playback has different requirements.
What you need before setting up OBS
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the first broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains eligibility and activation.
- A computer that can encode your chosen resolution and frame rate, a stable internet connection, and power suitable for a continuous session. OBS notes that performance depends on encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity; meeting its minimum system requirements does not guarantee a stable stream. See the OBS system requirements.
- OBS Studio, a camera or visual source if needed, and a reliable audio source: for example, a microphone or a suitable feed from the church sound system.
- A YouTube broadcast and its stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password; do not share it in screenshots, chat or public documents.
Set up the OBS scene and audio
1. Run the configuration wizard
Open OBS and select Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard. Use its result as a starting point: it considers intended use, hardware and network conditions, but you still need to test the actual scene and connection. OBS recommends a short test rather than beginning with the first real broadcast. Its Quick Start Guide covers the initial setup.

2. Build a clear prayer scene
Create a scene for the stream and add only what the congregation needs to see and hear. A static devotional image can work for a prayer time; a live gathering may need a camera, a Hindi title or prayer text, and an audio source. Keep on-screen text readable at the resolution you intend to stream. For a mostly still image and spoken prayer, 30 fps is a reasonable starting point to test; it is not a platform requirement.

3. Check the audio path
Watch the Audio Mixer meters while speaking or playing the actual room feed. If the expected device is missing, open Settings → Audio and select the intended input manually. Listen from another device, not only through the room speakers, and check for low volume, clipping, echo, hum and accidental muting. A direct microphone and a feed from an existing mixer are different setups; use the source that gives a clean, compatible voice signal, and test the complete route.

Connect OBS to the YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or select the broadcast. Set its privacy appropriately for a private test or public service.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s Live Control Room. YouTube documents these in Manage live stream settings.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube if available, or enter the provided server URL and stream key using the matching connection fields. Apply the changes.
- Keep the key private. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s Live Control Room and replace the saved key in OBS before streaming again.
The broadcast’s YouTube setup and OBS output must agree: confirm that the selected broadcast is the one you intend to use, and check the Live Control Room preview before making the stream public.
Choose settings the church connection and computer can sustain
For YouTube RTMP/RTMPS using H.264, YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval; do not set the interval above four seconds. Its current encoder guidance lists these recommended H.264 ingest bitrates:
Rank #2
- Custom three-capsule array: This professional USB mic produces clear, powerful, broadcast-quality sound for YouTube videos, Twitch game streaming, podcasting, Zoom meetings, music recording and more
- Blue VO!CE software: Elevate your streamings and recordings with clear broadcast vocal sound and entertain your audience with enhanced effects, advanced modulation and HD audio samples
- Four pickup patterns: Flexible cardioid, omni, bidirectional, and stereo pickup patterns allow you to record in ways that would normally require multiple mics, for vocals, instruments and podcasts
- Onboard audio controls: Headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute, and mic gain put you in charge of every level of the audio recording and streaming process
- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
| Output to test | YouTube-recommended H.264 ingest bitrate | When it may suit the scene |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | More image detail or small Hindi text, if the computer and connection sustain it. |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | A lower-bandwidth starting choice that may be more resilient on a constrained connection. |
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps minimum; 4 Mbps recommended | A lower-resolution option to test where bandwidth or encoding capacity is limited. |
These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not promises of viewer quality or proof that a connection with the same nominal upload speed can stream reliably. Run an upload speed test and leave practical headroom for normal variation. Choose resolution based on text readability and visual need, as well as the computer’s encoding load. The full YouTube encoder settings guidance includes audio and format recommendations.
YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS and recommends 128 Kbps stereo audio. For spoken prayer, clear, unclipped voice matters more than a high frame rate. Test using the actual microphone or sound-system feed and listen to the live preview from a separate device.

Test the stream and monitor it continuously
For an event, YouTube advises setting up the encoder event at least two hours beforehand, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes early, checking the preview before going live, and monitoring audio and video continuously. These are useful preparation timings, not special 24/7-stream rules. Read YouTube’s live streaming tips.
- Start with a local OBS recording or a short private or unlisted test broadcast.
- Confirm that the YouTube Live Control Room preview appears and that the expected image and audio are present.
- Open the watch page on a phone or another device. Check voice level, text legibility, sync, and whether the stream remains stable while the camera or audio is active.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health indicators and OBS status. Ask another person to monitor the feed and know whom to contact if sound, video or connectivity fails.
- Test the recovery process before depending on it. OBS offers an automatic reconnect option that can help after a dropped connection, but it cannot resolve every network, power, operating-system, hardware or input failure.
OBS can stream and record at the same time. If you need a local archive, OBS recommends MKV because an ungraceful stop will not corrupt the entire recording; confirm that the file grows and that there is enough disk space. Recording alongside streaming can use additional computer resources. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume an automatic archive for a longer continuous broadcast. See the OBS recording guide.

Plan for copyright and continuous operation
Check rights for worship music and recordings
Copyrighted music or recordings can interrupt or terminate a live stream. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Check the permissions for every song and recording you plan to use, and review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. Do not assume that music being used in a church service is automatically cleared for an online broadcast.
Decide whether OBS is the right method for the content
OBS is suited to composing a live broadcast from scenes and sources, such as a camera, microphone, prayer text and image. For a genuinely nonstop live gathering, the church needs a person or operating process to notice and respond to failures; neither OBS’s reconnect setting nor YouTube’s event guidance promises unattended uptime. If the goal is instead to loop uploaded recordings while nobody is at the computer, that is a prerecorded-playback workflow rather than broadcasting a live prayer gathering.

Or let it run in the cloud
For nonstop playback of uploaded prayer recordings on YouTube, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud: upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream keeps the quality of the uploaded video, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hindi require different OBS or YouTube encoder settings?
No. The Hindi language affects the stream’s content and audience, not the encoder requirements described here. Test that Hindi on-screen text remains readable at the chosen resolution.
Can OBS automatically fix every interruption in a nonstop stream?
No. Its reconnect option may help after a dropped connection, but a person or process still needs to detect and respond to failures beyond OBS’s control.
