To run a Hindi news bulletin on YouTube with OBS, enable live streaming on your channel, connect OBS to a stream created in YouTube Studio, build scenes for the presenter and graphics, and use a tested video bitrate your internet connection can sustain. For a genuinely continuous channel, plan monitoring and stream boundaries: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, but its guidance does not promise unattended 24/7 uptime or automatic archiving of longer broadcasts.
What you need before setting up OBS
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance
- A computer running OBS Studio, a stable upload connection, and the camera, microphone, or prepared graphics your bulletin needs.
- A stream created or scheduled in YouTube Studio, with its server URL and stream key ready to enter in OBS.
Use OBS as the encoder and production switcher. It composes the camera, headlines, graphics, and audio, then sends the finished feed to YouTube. A stream key is a credential: YouTube describes stream keys as like the stream’s “password and address.” Keep it out of screenshots and production materials; reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS if it is exposed.

1. Enable YouTube Live and create the stream
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live. Complete the channel’s live activation if prompted; initial activation may take up to 24 hours.
- In Live Control Room, create a stream or select the stream you scheduled. Enter the bulletin’s title, description, audience setting, privacy, and schedule. A scheduled stream can be promoted ahead of time.
- Open the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password and do not display it while recording your screen.
- Keep Live Control Room available during production; you will use its preview and stream health messages before the broadcast.
2. Build scenes for a Hindi bulletin
Run OBS’s setup wizard
In OBS, select Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard. Follow its prompts for streaming and let it account for your hardware and network conditions. OBS interface details can vary by version, so use the labels shown in your installed build.

- Headline / graphic: image or media source for a map, photograph, chart, or prepared headline card, with a text source for the Devanagari headline and attribution.
- Standby / break: branded slate and, if appropriate, prepared media.
- Closing: end card with the next bulletin or schedule information.
These are practical editorial scene suggestions, not a tested OBS template. In the Sources list, items higher in the order appear above items below them; put headline text, logos, and lower thirds above the camera or background. Use the OBS preview to position and inspect Hindi text at the output size. OBS supports text sources, but its documentation does not specify a Hindi font or guarantee Devanagari glyph coverage. Verify the chosen font on the actual broadcast output.
3. Check microphone, picture, and Hindi graphics
- Confirm the camera or capture source appears in the preview and is framed as intended.
- Speak into the presenter microphone and watch the OBS Audio Mixer meters. If they do not move, or the wrong device is active, open Settings → Audio and select the intended input.
- Listen for clipping, room noise, and unwanted desktop audio. An existing headset, webcam, or capture audio input may be sufficient; a separate USB microphone is optional, not a requirement.
- Inspect names, headlines, captions, and attribution for legibility and correct Devanagari rendering at the final resolution. Preview the full graphic, not just the text editor.
OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends a short test rather than making a first stream attempt in the real broadcast. OBS Quick Start Guide

4. Choose resolution, bitrate, and audio settings
Choose the picture mode based on both readability and connection stability. YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations list the following common bulletin settings; the minimum and upper figures are bitrate range endpoints, not a promise of quality. The recommended value is a starting point, and actual results depend on image complexity, encoder load, and network stability. YouTube recommended encoder settings

|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps minimum to 8 Mbps upper endpoint | 6 Mbps | Lower upload or encoding capacity; check that Hindi text remains readable on phones. |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps minimum to 14 Mbps upper endpoint | 10 Mbps | More room for fine graphics and text when the connection and computer can sustain it. |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps minimum to 17 Mbps upper endpoint | Not stated in the cited guidance as a single recommended value | Consider only if motion warrants it; a presenter-and-graphics bulletin usually does not need 60 fps. |
For a conventional talking-head bulletin, begin with 720p30 or 1080p30 rather than assuming the highest resolution is best. YouTube recommends a speed test and advises about 20% upload headroom beyond the total stream bitrate; include both primary and backup streams in that total if you use them. Audio also consumes bandwidth. If the connection cannot reliably hold the selected bitrate, lower the output mode or bitrate and test again.

OBS output baseline
- Video codec: H.264 for the settings above; YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS.
- Rate control: CBR.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Frame rate: 30 fps for the 30 fps profiles above; YouTube supports up to 60 fps.
- Video format: progressive, square pixels; Rec. 709 for SDR.
- Audio: AAC stereo, 128 kbps recommended, 44.1 kHz for stereo.
In OBS settings, select YouTube or configure the service URL and stream key, then set output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to match the plan you tested. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard is the recommended starting point; exact settings labels can differ across versions. For current encoder specifications, check YouTube’s encoder settings page before a major production change.
5. Preview and start the bulletin
- Set up the encoder at least two hours before the scheduled event. YouTube recommends starting encoders at least 15 minutes before it.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the preview and stream health messages in Live Control Room.
- Check the channel or watch page on a separate device, including a phone. Confirm video, microphone audio, Hindi headlines, and graphics are correct.
- Check that media and images are cleared for use and that private production material, stream keys, or notes are not visible.
- When the scheduled workflow is ready, select Go live in Live Control Room. Continue monitoring sound and picture during transmission.
YouTube recommends setting up well in advance, previewing in Live Control Room, and monitoring audio and video quality throughout. Lower latency can increase playback buffering; for a bulletin without live audience interaction, prioritize stable playback over the lowest possible delay. YouTube live streaming tips

Can OBS run a continuous 24/7 YouTube stream?
OBS can send a long-running feed while the computer, encoder, network, and power remain available, but the official guidance cited here does not establish guaranteed unattended 24/7 operation or a failover design. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be archived in the same way; decide how you will retain recordings and handle stream boundaries.
Recommended Free Tools
For a news channel that intends to remain live continuously, plan an operator and a tested recovery process for power, internet, and encoder interruptions. YouTube has auto-start and auto-stop settings for certain stream configurations, but those controls alone do not prove robust unattended continuity. The evidence cited here does not identify a specific OBS failover plugin or hardware stack.

Copyright and editorial checks for a Hindi news stream
Before going live, verify the rights for every music track, video clip, photograph, map, and other media source in the bulletin. Add attribution where required by the license or rights holder, and do not assume that news use automatically clears copyrighted material. YouTube’s live controls do not replace a newsroom’s rights checks. Also review the audience and privacy settings in Live Control Room before the scheduled transmission.
Troubleshooting common OBS-to-YouTube problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| No Live Control Room preview | OBS is not sending to the selected stream, or the server URL/key is wrong. | Compare the OBS service and stream key with the selected Live Control Room stream. If the key was exposed, reset it in YouTube and update OBS. |
| OBS audio meters do not move | Wrong or unavailable audio input. | Open Settings → Audio, select the intended microphone, then speak and confirm the meter responds. |
| Video or audio stutters | Upload capacity is insufficient or unstable, or the encoder is struggling. | Check connection capacity and OBS performance; reduce bitrate or output resolution, then run another test. Preserve the recommended 2-second keyframe interval. |
| Hindi characters appear as boxes or are hard to read | The selected font may not cover the needed Devanagari glyphs, or the graphic is too small at output size. | Inspect the rendered preview at the intended resolution and use a font verified to display the required characters on the production computer. |
| A long broadcast recording is missing or incomplete | The stream exceeded YouTube’s documented under-12-hour automatic archive condition. | Plan stream boundaries and separate archive retention rather than relying on an over-12-hour stream being automatically archived. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use an existing webcam or headset for the presenter audio?
Yes. OBS can use an existing audio input; select it under Settings → Audio and verify that its mixer meter responds.

For a mostly static presenter-and-graphics program, 30 fps is generally the sensible starting profile. Reserve 60 fps for content where motion benefits from it and the encoder and upload can sustain it.
