To run a dealership’s YouTube Live stream from OBS, first enable live streaming on the channel, build and test the OBS scene, then connect OBS to a stream created in YouTube Studio. For a long-running broadcast, configure a conservative stream profile and assign someone to monitor it: OBS does not guarantee an uninterrupted, indefinite broadcast, and YouTube’s cited guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Before you start: check channel eligibility
The dealership needs a verified YouTube channel that is eligible to live stream. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the streamer must be at least 16 and the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Before creating a public broadcast, review the stream’s privacy and audience choices in YouTube Studio. Make sure the dealership has permission to broadcast every video, song, and other material included in the stream.
Build and check the OBS scene
Choose the scene for what the broadcast needs to show: a fixed view of a vehicle bay, close-ups of a car, or a presenter speaking to viewers. A camera and microphone are optional; connect the equipment the scene requires, add the relevant capture sources in OBS, and check the picture framing and audio meters before going live. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers connecting external video and audio hardware but does not prescribe a dealer-specific camera or layout.

Keep the frame clear and the audio intelligible. If the stream is mostly a stationary showroom view, avoid adding movement or detail that the available connection cannot sustain at the selected quality.
Create a YouTube stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS, open the stream settings and enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. If the installed OBS version offers a YouTube connection flow, that can be used instead.
- Start streaming in OBS. Check that YouTube receives the signal, inspect the preview, and review stream health before relying on the public broadcast.
The stream key controls access to the broadcast destination: treat it like a password. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the new key. YouTube documents this encoder workflow in its guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.

Choose OBS settings that suit the connection
A sensible starting point for a fixed showroom shot is 720p at 30 fps using H.264. In OBS, select constant bitrate (CBR), set a two-second keyframe interval, and use AAC stereo audio at 128 kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Use RTMPS when available. The exact names and locations of OBS controls can vary by installed version and encoder, so check the options shown on the dealership’s computer rather than assuming a particular menu layout.

YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its cited audio recommendations include 128 kbps stereo and a 44.1 kHz stereo sample rate. These are encoder recommendations, not a promise that a particular dealership connection can sustain a setting.
Test upload speed at the actual streaming location and at a representative time. Leave capacity above the configured video bitrate for audio, protocol overhead, and normal network variation; a brief peak on a speed test is not proof of reliable sustained upload. YouTube advises choosing a quality that produces a reliable stream and testing with representative audio and movement. As YouTube Help puts it: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” See its encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance.

Plan for continuity and archive handling
A continuous schedule needs an operating plan, not just an OBS profile. Keep the streaming computer and connection dedicated where practical, have a person monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages, and decide who will restart OBS or create a replacement broadcast if the signal drops. Test the chosen setup for a representative period before scheduling a longer run.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not promise that one broadcast can run indefinitely, that a stream crossing 12 hours will be archived as one complete video, or that OBS will automatically recover from a dropped connection. Plan the intended session length and check YouTube Studio’s current controls for longer operation and archive handling rather than assuming one session will cover every duration.

Troubleshooting a dealership broadcast
- YouTube does not receive a signal: confirm OBS is using the stream URL and key for the correct scheduled stream. If the key was replaced or exposed, update it in OBS.
- Stream health reports connection trouble: test sustained upload at the streaming location. Reduce the bitrate or resolution, then test again; do not rely on a speed-test peak.
- Video stutters or loses detail: try the conservative 720p30 H.264 starting profile at 6 Mbps, then check the preview and stream health before raising quality.
- Viewers cannot hear the presenter: check that the intended audio source is active in OBS, the audio meters respond when someone speaks, and the YouTube preview contains sound.
- The broadcast stops during a long session: follow the restart or replacement-stream plan and verify the new preview before directing viewers to it. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish indefinite single-session operation.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps playing uploaded videos rather than a live camera view of the showroom, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps it running without a computer or home connection left on; it supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos and does not broadcast a live camera.
The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. To start, try StreamNeo’s free first day.
